Today I saw a bunch of the "Dimsion Extreme" titles at BB with new Slipcovers stating Best Buy Exclusive, as far I noticed they didn't have anything extra but the Slipcover, among the titles were Rogue, Teeth, Storm Warning, Mother Of Tears, Buried Alive, Inside, Night Of The Living Dead, and Nightmare Detective.

FYE has an exclusive poster with Superman/Batman.

Also, Target supposedly has a bonus disc on the 2-disc version (according to their ad circular and shelf promo), but none of the discs at either local Target had any stickers identifying them as having any bonus content. Despite the fact that store clerks INSISTED that it would have the bonus disc inside, I tend not to take their word for anything like this. The last time this happened (on Heroes season 3), it turned out that many Targets got non-exclusive versions on release day, only later getting the proper version with the bonus disc. Anyway, did anyone find any of the Target version of this title WITH a sticker or something indicating the bonus content?

Also, does anybody know the deal on the so-called Wal-Mart exclusive Wizard of Oz titles? Both the single-disc DVD and Blu-Ray have an exclusive sticker on them, but I have no idea what it refers to. Could this be like the genius move when they promoted their "exclusive" on the 1-disc version of Twilight?

It's an exclusive two disc set; documentary on the director and a featurette on the Munchins.

There is another. "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" has an exclusive lenticular slipcover for the single disc version.

Both from Wal-Mart.

Yeah, I saw that. I don't get it. I bought the same editions of "Night Of The Living Dead" and "Rogue" from Wal-Mart on release day. Is it that those titles are... out of print except for Best Buy.

What ticks me off is that my store merged the sci-fi and action sections into one. I do not like that.

i have no idea what this is lol, so i apologize for not making sense it i dont...

i saw one copy of some older horror flick in what looked like a very thick and slightly opaque ziplock bag. there was a sticker that stated something to the effect of being a "limited body bag" edition. it even had a sticker for a upc on the back of said body bag. what the heck is this?

and thanks for the heads up ajay - my dang local fye had no mention anywhere of an exclusive poster for super/bat ug.

Thanks! Yep, the cruise was great, I highly recommend that everyone try at least one cruise in their life.

Hope I didn't miss much. I've been 9 days without shopping for a DVD, I think that may be a record.

I know I've rushed the last two weekly posts up, so please let me know if anything is missing. Thanks for picking up my slack there Snausages. I hope to be back to my mostly thorough self by next week.

Never been, but will try it one day :) Glad you have fun! Did you eat lots? :)

Not sure what you needed/wanted, but Wizard of Oz Best Buy exclusive and Target Exclusive Emerald edition were the ones that went quickly. Also there was the B.o.B. plush. If you need the Target Wizard of Oz, last time I checked there were a couple copies left.

There's also the Snow White posters (2 different versions) at Best Buy if you buy certain Disney DVDs such as Hocus Pocus, Flubber, Newsies, Herbied Fully Loaded, etc. They still had some left in a box you can grab at the store.

i am very disheartened to say there is no film cell (cel? or cell?) from fye. i believe it is some sort of poster - i dont know the details though.

Re: All DVD exclusives and freebies - 5/31/09 and ongoing

I called around to different FYEs and Suncoasts on Monday, most of which said they had nothing. A couple of them said they had posters and I went to one of those to buy the movie. One FYE told me they would have "the film cel they always have" but it was only available if you pre-ordered. And when I search eBay for Snow White Cel Suncoast someone is selling 9 of the cels. There is at least one other auction for it as well. One FYE told me they could possibly have a new offer when the regular Snow White non-Blu Ray DVD comes out in a few weeks.

On the other hand, maybe the Snow White cel on eBay is from way back from the original release of the DVD. I see one person has an auction with 18 different "Suncoast cels" including that one. I had no idea they produced so many different ones. That may be why they didn't offer another cel this time around, because they already had done one before.

from my knowledge, some suncoast and fye stores do not do different things separately from each other. the twec exclusive for this new release (diamond edition) of snow white is a poster and definitely not a film cel (i guess it is cel).

but thank you for the tip on the suncoast film cel listings on greedbay. it appears all of those cels are from suncoast but are likely for the older releases. i gather this because there are multiple cels, including ones for jungle book, peter pan, lady and the tramp, etc. and they all look similar. the newer ones offered by fye just until recently looked different.

Re: All DVD exclusives and freebies - 5/31/09 and ongoing

An alarming development concerning the Target-exclusive Wizard of Oz... it looks like they are NO LONGER OFFERING IT! Like many people here, I too was unable to acquire a copy, despite hitting no less than 5 different Target locations last Tuesday and Wednesday. Apparently some stores were carrying it as recently as this past Monday, but as of Tuesday (new release day), there is no longer a place for it on their shelves. No price label, no computer listing, nothing! It's like it was never even there. This happened once a few years ago, when Target began carrying the then-new "Crocodile Dundee" triple pack, only to drop it the following week. Nobody at the stores even remembered seeing it, insisting that I must have been mistaken in thinking I'd seen it there. The title returned to the Target lineup a month or so later, but I will never forget how bizarre it was to see an item simply disappear from both the stores and the inventory computer after just one week of availability.

Sadly, it looks like this has happened here, too. The exclusive version of Wizard of Oz is not even listed on the Target website anymore. I'm especially disappointed that they did this with an exclusive title that is not even available at other retailers. Anyway, I'm hoping this item comes back at some point, but as things stand, you will NOT be able to find it in stores (because it has likely been pulled from the chain for the immediate future).

And while we're on the topic of Wizard of Oz, can anybody explain the difference between the Target and Wal-Mart versions? Both are touted as "exclusive" for one reason or another. From what I understand, the Target version is simply a pared-down version of the box set, with all the video content but none of the extra "stuff" (book, cards, etc.). But if that's the case, what is "exclusive" about the Wal-Mart version? The sticker seems to indicate that there is an exclusive documentary, but the way it is described, it sounds like it's also on the regular retail version. Does anybody know if there is anything unique to the Wal-Mart version that makes it worth buying?

Re: All DVD exclusives and freebies - 5/31/09 and ongoing

Oh, and speaking of Target exclusives from last week... has anybody opened their Batman/Superman 2-disc DVD to confirm the inclusion of the so-called Target-exclusive bonus disc? Since I travel for work, I've been able to hit about 10 different Targets since last week and found no copies to have any indication of additional content (no sticker, no unique UPC bar code). The only indication was in the sales circular and on the shelf tag. I suppose this could just be one of those rare instances where they advertise an exclusive, only to not actually have it. Still, that Heroes, season 3 mix-up from last month has me thinking that it's still possible I'm simply not encountering the exclusive versions yet.

I will add that for the Wonder Woman release from earlier this year, the Target exclusive content was not included on an additional disc, but on a DIFFERENT 2nd disc. In other words, the extras were added to the supplemental disc, with the text on the slipcover (and rear cover) adjusted to include mention of the unique content. I did attempt a quick comparison of two Batman/Superman slipcovers (regular retail and Target) but both appeared to be the same, though it's possible I missed something.

Anyway, those are my thoughts, as unnecessarily thorough as they are. If anyone can add to or clarify this situation for me, you'd make me this OCD sufferer very happy.

That's very kind of you, snausages!

Sadly, I fear that since you say you saw them LAST weekend, you'll find that they are no longer in the store. I'm inclined to believe that, even if copies were still in stock as of Monday night, they were pulled because they now have no slot in the current plan-o-gram. Don't worry about it, I think this would end up being more trouble for you than it's worth. But thank you so much for the offer, man!

:)

iirc, the tarjay exclusive is just like you said. however, the walmart edition is even more pared down. something like 2 disks instead of 3? check the specific woz threads for clarification - i wish i could assist with more info, but seriously, this release has my head spinning.

you and i both know its aint THAT rare eh? but yeah, i think tarjay dropped the ball completely on this one. and then just walked away real quiet. oh well, at least it was supposed to be just a few episodes of justice league or something like that.

for whatever reason tarjay seems to do this a lot. dunno why, but i think its kinda cool, as it really does make the release unique. i dont believe this is the case with batman/superman though, since there are no reports of it and no reports of anyone finding any "exclusive" stickers on any of the copies.

on a related note, i kinda miss the other unique thingy that tarjay frequently practiced for dvd exclusives - using a different cover and/or slipcover or slipcase. that was nice too :D

Hindolio, can you list off which cels were in the "different-looking" category? The different look may be because they included concept artwork on the cardboard around the cel. I have the Pinocchio one and I believe Sleeping Beauty was similar. What others do you have or know of like that? I gather Peter Pan might have been another.
