Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I saw both "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (single-disk, 1938) in the $5 bin.

I believe that is the same as the individual releases. i remember being bummed about the lack of Special Features on Phantasm II and Serpent and the Rainbow came out at the dawn of DVDdom, I hope they have an updated transfer but I doubt it.

Universal has released a Classic War Collection and a Classic Western Collection with each containing 4 previously released titles. Each collection has 2 movies on a disc.

The war collection contains WAKE ISLAND (1942) with Brian Donlevy & William Bendix, TO HELL AND BACK (1955) with Audie Murphy, BATTLE HYMN (1957) with Rock Hudson and GRAY LADY DOWN (1977) with Charlton Heston.

The western set includes ALBUQUERQUE (1948) with Randolph Scott, WHISPERING SMITH (1948) with Alan Ladd, DUEL AT SILVER CREEK (1952) with Audie Murphy and WAR ARROW (1953) with Maureen O'Hara and Jeff Chandler.

Man, I have almost stopped looking in the $5 bin since the cases are often battered, and there never is anything remotely interesting...but those two sets would be worth finding, thanks!

my Super Walmart just got restocked in $5 DVDs. Some new "Midnight Horror" 4-Packs from Echo Bridge (saw one called Butchers and one called Serial Killers), and the Children of the Corn 2 pack w/ 2 and 3 are what I'm gonna pick up, they were half done stocking it so i'll see what else they have to put up tomorrow.

In Orlando ( E. Col. store close to Alafaya )... I got the following collections....

4 pack from Lionsgate $5.00
American Pyscho UNrated - WIDEscreen
Confidence - WIDEscreen
Falltime - FULLscreen
Rain Of Fire - WIDEscreen
American pyscho is on a single sided disc with extras. Confidence is on a single sided disc. Falltime and Rain Of Fire are both on a double sided disc. Back of package does NOT list if they're WIDEscreen or FULLscree, so I quickly checked each disc when I got home.

3 pack from MGM $13.00....
Mad Max - WIDEscreen and FULLscreen, with extra features on flipside of double sided disc. Has original Aussie audio, so I was very happy about that.
Robocop - WIDEscreen on single sided disc
Terminator - WIDEscreen on single sided disc

4 pack from Universal $5.00... Two movies per single sided disc.
The Funhouse - WIDEscreen. Love this 80's flick. Elizabeth Berridge looked so cute, and as Joe Bob Briggs would say, she "delived the groceries".
Phantasm 2 - WIDEscreen.
The Serpent and the Rainbow - WIDEscreen.
Ssssss - WIDEscreen.

4 pack from Lionsgate $5.00... two movies on two double sided discs.
Drive Thru - WIDEscreen
Creep - WIDEscreen
Boy Eats Girl - WIDEscreen
Tamara - WIDEscreen

I also saw the following in the bargin bin...
Last House On The Left - Original version with new cover art
A "Action" type collection with 3 or 4 Chuck Norris films
A "war" collectin. Can't remember the names of the films.
Another "action" type collection with one Van Damme film, one Arnold film and two others.
Demonic Toys / Dollman / Dollman vs. Demonic Toys

I spotted the following "collections" on the shelves...
Prophecy 1 thru 3
Scream 1 thru 3
Kill Bill 1 and 2
2 different Hellraiser films
4 movie pack with - Last House on the Left original / Child's Play FULLscreen / Amityville Horror remake / Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

I did NOT find the "Meridian / Decadent Evil" set by Echo Bridge. Maybe next time. I'm also disappointed that they did not have the new "Girls, Guns and G-strings" Andy Sidaris 12 movie pack by Mill Creek.

Also saw a display with several (but not all) of the Mill Creek 50 movie pack in the new plastic cases -- 10.00

Mystery Classics
Sci-fi classics
Pure Terror
600 Cartoons (carton container)

and some others.

EDIT to add: the TV section was taken away and replaced by a Spanish section. That means NO 2-packs of Cosby, Bewitched, etc. at my local store.

damn, found a 2 pack of The Good The Bad and The Ugly with Hang Em High hoping it would be the old dvd with the original cut and mono sound, but it was the newest version.

Also found the From Dusk Till Dawn/Full Tilt Boogie double feature for 5 bucks. Single sided, both are anamorphic

I found the Mill Creek packs in a display as well at the Wal Mart in Carthage, Texas.

I saw two different 50 horror movie sets, a science fiction 50 pack, a one with 150 western tv episodes, the 600 cartoon pack, one with a bunch of Vietnam documentaries, etc...

All of them were $10.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Bought the following from the $5 bargain bin tonight:

Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth/Hellraiser: Bloodline Double Feature
Children of the Corn 2/Children of the Corn 3 Double Feature
Universal 4-Pack Comedy Favorites Collection:
Cross My Heart
Fierce Creatures
Opportunity Knocks
Splitting Heirs

The back cover says that "Fierce Creatures" is Full-Frame, but as the disc itself states, it's actually the Widescreen Version, which I was happy about. I saw a couple of other Universal 4-Packs, including one with Serial Mom/Nurse Betty/Very Bad Things/Your Friends and Neighbors, another with Head Over Heels/Wimbledon/The Perfect Man/The Story of Us, and another with Cop and a Half/Dudley Do-Right/Sgt. Bilko/Ed.
Some other interesting titles I saw were The Shining (Stanley Kubrick Collection 1-Disc), Jeepers Creepers Double Feature, Dumb and Dumber Double Feature, Butterfly Effect Double Feature, The Mask Double Feature, Mortal Kombat Double Feature, The Corruptor/Rumble in the Bronx Double Feature, Cursed/Dracula 2000 Double Feature

Wow, I thought that film was out-of-print. As part of a double feature though, it's worth the $5.

EDIT: Just found out that Hellraiser III is being re-released through Echo Bridge Entertainment on April 26.

My WM just redid their TV on DVD section. Gone are all the real good bargains like South Park for $15 each, Andy Griffith Show for $10 each.

Now they put in Smallville seasons 4 thru 8 for $35 a season and Supernatural for around $30 a season.
I remember when they had Supernatural a few years ago for just $15 a season.

Something tells me these are just going to sit there collecting dust.

They also redid their Blu-Ray selection.

I just have to say this: Every time I see this WalMart Bargains thread I ask myself, "What bargains???" Nothing ever changes at WalMart, they never have any DVD sales, the only price changes I see are increases. They did away with their $7.50 tier of DVDs, they changed their $9 DVDs to $10, it's always the same old crap in the $5 bin. When is WalMart EVER going to run a sale on DVDs??? Next Black Friday??? I'd love to see bargains at WalMart but all I ever see there, for the last 9 or 10 months (or longer, and with the exception of the last Black Friday), is the same old crap.

I wish WalMart would join in the game... -kd5-

I've pretty much given up on Walmart as a source of any kind of bargains on DVDs, but whenever I'm there habit forces me to dig through the $5 bin just because it's there, and I'm a cheap bastard.

I just went to walmart yesterday and since they had just barely switched their stock out, I was able to pick up two movies I was looking for, but now I have too wait an entire year before they switch out their stock again.

The same thing happened here. It took me a few minutes to find them as they'd partially "flipped" sides for the TV sets and "bargain" DVDs. It was a very disappointing selection, especially the prices.

I've gotten so spoiled by $3 titles at Big Lots I just can't bring myself to dig through the bins any more. I used to look at the dump shelves when I'd go in but when they brought the bin back I stopped. I found I'd rather be home watching something than wasting time digging through the same old junk. I'll do a very quick look at the top layer as I walk past but I'm done with digging.

I got the hellraiser 3-5 triple feature from Echo Bridge at Kmart for $7.50. #3 was full screen, and a poor transfer at that.

Not sure that will be the same transfer on the double feature, but thought I would share.

Same here. Most things in Walmart's $5 bin will end up at Big Lots for $3 (or $2.40 when they have 20% off) and BL's shelves and displays are easier to dig through then Walmart's mess of a bin. The only reason I did a quick look at the top layer is that I've been wanting to find the Ringu Anthology people say they find now and then, but I don't think it ever showed up in my area.

What changes at Walmart is what they carry in stock at the time (which is usually very little... the newest releases or old stuff that they sent back and has come back at lower prices). I'm under the impression Walmart prefers to ship stuff back and forth rather than have the stores hold onto merchandise and simply reprice it. But this fact is very true for me: I haven't bought ANY DVDs or BDs at Walmart in the last few years except as a pricematch (to save me a trip somewhere else), on Black Friday, or on those rare sales like when they initially had the Running Man/Red Heat BD pack for $10. I'm so tired of never finding any deals at Walmart that I don't spend much time looking at the shelves, so I'd never know if they got anything new except if it's mentioned on DVD Talk or SD.

The other big issue is that at any price higher than $3, I find myself hard pressed to justify buying any DVD movie when I know the BD will be in the $5-$10 range soon. It seems like every time I buy a BL $3 DVD, 6 months later Amazon has the BD for maybe $3-$5 more and I wish I had waited.

Now for the final point of my spew... last I heard or read, most B&M stores were not making that much money off movies. The market has become saturated (for DVD at least), there still aren't enough BD players out there (which I don't understand considering how cheap they are), and the prices of DVDs is very low so I don't think there's much profit margin except on new releases (which is why they emphasize new releases). So most stores are carrying movies in hopes of the impulse buy and not trying to draw people in with great movie sales (as was the case right before Circus City went under and was always trying to outdo BB on DVD sales). Walmart makes most of their money from other stuff. So you are right... Walmart doesn't have many movie deals except on Black Friday. The place that has the best deals is... (drum roll) Amazon and next (drum roll) Target for new releases, especially if they have Disney coupons.

Nevertheless, we need a "bargains" thread for every store just in case a deal shows up and so that we can have a place to post and vent periodically about why the stores don't have good deals any more:-)

I agree 100% with this post. Ever see what a clearance sale at Wal-Mart is like on most items? They put it in that section of the store with a red stickered price tag and it's still the same price on the item. I mean, what gives here and they call themselves a bargain? I think not!

The "Joe 6-pack" crowd doesn't get that the prices are the same. They see it on the "bargain" isle with a red sticker and grab 'em... brilliant marketing for the typical shopper who doesn't pay much attention to prices. Same theory as the usual slow price increase over a few months so they can then do a "roll back" to the initial price and lure you in.
