A few Criterions on sale at WGBH

Kagemusha for $11.70
Ran for $11.70
Sword of Doom for $8.70

Shipping is around 9 bucks, plus there's sales tax, but it's probably worth it if you're interested in all three. You also get a free Oliver Twist Mini-series DVD with every order, and a coupon for 20% off your next purchase.

The british version of the office is also on sale for $8.70 and $7.20 (season 1 and season 2), shipping kind of kills it unless you are ordering other things.

Re: A few Criterions on sale at WGBH

Thanks for posting this, NoirFan! I picked up Bogie & Bacall: The Signature Collection for only $11.70... I haven't seen any of the four films in the set, but at that price, I couldn't resist, especially with the Oliver Twist set thrown in as a bonus. I didn't get charged any sales tax, just $5.95 shipping.

BTW, they have the wrong picture listed for Lady Chatterley. Here's the description:

Based on the notorious novel by D.H. Lawrence, French director Pascale Ferran’s award-winning Lady Chatterley is “the most frankly sensual movie in memory”—Los Angeles Times. Marina Hands (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) is a nobleman’s wife trapped in a marriage without emotional or physical fulfillment; Jean-Louise Coulloc’h is a gamekeeper. The two unite in a love both erotic and innocent, transcending class prejudices and personal inhibitions. In French with optional English subtitles. 2 hours 41 min on 1 DVD. For mature audiences.
...and here's the picture.

Thanks for pointing this out, OP! Picked up the Criterions along with some other stuff.

I wasn't charged sales tax either, even though I live in the state WGBH is in. Could they charge me for the tax after the order was placed?

The links to the Criterions don't seem to be working anymore.

Same here. Even the full listing of DVDs doesn't bring up any Criterion titles.

Yeah, that's what happened with me. I was charged sales tax after the order went through.

I believe they had very limited stock - the Louis Malle Trilogy, Jules and Jim and Fat Girl were also part of the sale, but they don't show up anymore either.

Re: A few Criterions on sale at WGBH

I placed my order for Kagemusha last night right after seeing this thread. When I viewed the item again a couple of minutes later, it said "Out of Stock." When I viewed it again a couple of minutes after that, the link no longer worked. Got in just under the wire!

I already have all of the other Criterions listed, but I did pick up the Bogie & Bacall set too.

Great deal, thanks for posting!

Re: A few Criterions on sale at WGBH

I just got an E-mail saying that Ran and Kagemusha are now "discontinued." I've sent them an E-mail requesting that my entire order be canceled - I don't think the shipping fee is worth it anymore, especially when Ran and Kagemusha were the ones I particularly wanted.

In case you can't cancel, you should be able to get a discount on shipping as its based on your order total.

I also got a "Discontinued" email for Kagemusha.

But the Bogie & Bacall set shipped, along with the free Oliver Twist DVD, and The War book autographed by Ken Burns (for $15!), so I can't complain. They also adjusted the shipping to account for one less item.
