Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
At the Marshalls in Orlando ( E. Col. & Bumby )...
They're having a "clearance sale"...
Tales From The Dark Side ( TV series - season ONE ) - $5.00
Creepshow ( movie ) - $2.00
10 movie pack. I can NOT remember the name of it, but it was by East West Entertainment ( same company that makes those $1.00 double features ) - $3.00
Four Film Favorites: Thrillers ( Copycat / Diabolique / The Crush / Pacific Heights ) - $4.00
Marx Bros four film pack - can't remember how much or which films
There were others, but I can't remember the titles....

Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
I didn't read the post carefully before (since this thread combines both stores) and went to TJ Maxx thinking it should be $5 there. I saw it for $8 and asked if it was mispriced, they said no, and I passed (having already got it for $8 from Big Lots before I read this post). I'm still on the fence whether to keep it for $8 as reviews of the picture quality say that it's average at best (very soft picture). I'd much rather pay $5 for it, but Marshall's is out of my way so I want to see if anyone has seen it anywhere else for $5 before trying.

Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
Has anyone seen this for $5 at any Marshall's (besides the one mentioned in Orlando) or TJ Maxx stores?

Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
Checked out Marshalls today.
Picked up TCM Classics: Hitchcock Thrillers (Suspicion, Strangers on a Train, The Wrong Man, Strangers on a Train) for $7.99
Synecdoche, New York for $3.00
Passed on TCM Classics: Marx Brothers (A Day at the Races, A Night in Casablanca, Room Service, At the Races) also for $7.99, but might be back for it at that price.

Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
Haven't had much luck yet at Marshalls, but found a few things at TJ Maxx. Forgive me if this has been mentioned before, but at 2 of the 3 TJ Maxx stores, I found they had 10-15 dvds on a small 2 sided clearance display far away from the main DVDs in front of the registers. They were there as an afterthought, mixed in with underwear and misc electronics. Found Giant 2 DVD for $2, and for a buck, Spies Like Us(also has the horrific, Nothing But Trouble, but grabbed it anyway)
What's funny is the biggest TJ Maxx I have seen, in Morrow, GA had some huge clearance event going on, but no clearance movies.
At that store, I did see Tales From the Darkside, S1, and S2, for $9.99 and $14.99, not really any better than Amazon. Grabbed Mister Roberts for $4.99, and American in Paris 2 disc SE for $3.99. I also saw the Erroll Flynn Western Box set for $12.99 at every store.

Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
Every week my wife and I venture out to see what new sales there are at BestBuy, Target, and other places. While I'm at BestBuy, she'll go to TJ Maxx next door. I've wrapped up my BestBuy browsing early on several occasions (they rarely have any good deals on DVDs I want) and gone to TJ Maxx, I've looked through their paltry collection of DVDs but I've never found anything that I either didn't already have or didn't want badly enough. I look every time I go there but so far I haven't found anything I really want, and I won't buy just anything because it's cheap. One f these days I'll find something there worth buying..... -kd5-

Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
My TJ Maxx is next door to Ross and Staples, so I can easily go there weekly. However, they usually don't have much new, so I tend to go in only once a month unless people are mentioning new stuff (and what has recently been mentioned has been store-specific clearances). They closed most of the Marshall's in my area, so whichever few are left are a bit far for me.
Spies Like Us and Nothing But Trouble are tolerable movies, especially for $2, but they are both pan & scan so I've always passed on them. I only saw Nothing But Trouble once but remember thinking how I hated Dan Aykroyd in that part and wished Chevy Chase would've just started blowing away all the bad guys... sort of like watching most Jackie Chan movies where he only temporarily disables everyone trying to kill them instead of dispatching them permanently. I know it's only a movie and while it's OK in movies for everyone to try to kill the good guy, in some movies the good guys are never allowed to kill the bad guys.

Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
Went in looking for seasons of 'Tales', found none. But grabbed these at $2:
'Just Between Friends' (1986)
'A Prayer For the Dying' (1987, directed by the great Mike Hodges)
(Attractive young cashier behind counter perused backs of each before saying, 'Cool. I like really old movies, too.')

Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
Were these with the regular DVD's up by the registers or back in some clearance area? (2 I have been to just stick them near the fixtures with mens underwear of all things)

Re: DVDs at TJ Maxx and Marshalls
[QUOTE=JAYARE;10635783]Having worked in retail for years, it's weird that the chain doesn't mark down all the same titles at stores at the same time, but they clearly don't. Or, excess titles are returned to stores, and those are sent back at very reduced prices to various stores. Reason I say that is I had gone through one store's inventory, and the 10-15 titles in a clearance section, came back 2 weeks later and there were several new titles I hadn't seen in the store anywhere in the clearance section...
