No. And even if you got a disk with no region coding, the PS3 won't do PAL to NTSC conversion.

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
I recently scored a boxset (3 dvds) and two other films for 16 Euro shipped on Amazon.co.uk. That was a damn bargain. I love their website. It seems like sometimes it's cheaper to buy from them than amazon.com.

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
A bit OT, but about Amazon.co.uk.
What's the secret to using the 3 for 2 offer? I've selected titles from the 3 for 2 pages, but when I go into my basket it shows them all at their cost, none show as free. When does it show the correct total minus the free item? I've tried adding items from different pages as well as 3 from the same page, still never shows a free title. |

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
Gone with the Wind 4-disc is really cheap at amz.co.uk compared to the US release.
Same with Bridge on the River Kwai 2-disc LE. It doesn't include the promo booklet the R1 has, but all the other bonus features are intact. Also, The Shield season sets are really cheap, and are the anamorphic widescreen versions, as opposed to the improperly open-matte 4:3 US releases. The UK has really cheap box sets of shows like Monk and House that include all the seasons to date for about $8 per season after shipping, but the packaging is atrocious. And if you're interested in the film Show Me Love, you can get it in a box set with three other Lukas Moodysson pictures for less than just the one movie sells in the US. It's still non-anamorphic though, and pretty barebones, though no worse than the R1. Regarding subtitles on UK releases, a great site to refer to is dvd-subtitles.com |

I also got the Ally McBeal complete series set back in December for around $60 after shipping and that's a great set. No extras, but the last couple of seasons are widescreen, each season comes with a fairly thick episode summaries booklet, the packaging is great, and ALL of the music is intact. I doubt it will ever be released in the US with all of the music intact, the sales wouldn't be enough to justify the cost. |

Be wary of the 5th season; I recently bought it from Amazon UK and the season finale has been edited down from its original 70 minutes to around 45 minutes. For no reason whatsoever.
BTW...their shipping is awesome. My most recent order placed last Wed (2/25) arrived today! And that was with the cheapest shipping option. |
Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
On my last order, Amazon UK didn't deduct VAT. Has this been happening to anyone else?

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
There are no cuts from seasons 1 or 6. There are some minor cuts from seasons 2 and 3, but we're talking 10-20 seconds, not large cuts like in season 5. See dvdcompare.net for more details.
If Amazon is not deducting VAT, it is because the item is distributed through their partner indigostarfish.com (look for the text "Items for dispatch to UK will be sold by Amazon's Preferred Merchant.") who does not include VAT in their prices. |

They're shipping is incredibly fast; every order seems like it comes a day earlier than the previous one. And they're always packed very well, I've never gotten anything damaged. |
Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
Thanks escee & golden...I think I'll pick up 1&2, save 6 for a later date and wait for a good price on the R1 season 5. I picked up 3&4 during the circuit city liquidation so I'm just trying to fill in the holes now.

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
Hanzo the Razor 3 disc box set from Eureka up for pre-order at Amazon.co.uk for 7.98GBP (6.94GBP after VAT removed). Its about $50 for most retailers here. The listing claims it is uncut too. Also from Eureka they have Female Prisoner Scorpion Trilogy for 10.17GBP after removing VAT, but this can be had pretty reasonably here.
Edit: Actually the film line-up on the Eureka Female Prisoner Scorpion Trilogy looks different than the line-up on the Media Blasters box set. The Eureka set contains Jailhouse 41 which is OOP here instead of Grudge Song which is in the Media Blasters set. I'm not familiar with these films but they look interesting. Maybe someone more familiar could clarify. |

The U.S Tokyo Shock collection has films #1, #3, and #4 in their Scorpion set. |
Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains
Will these rip to my hard drive just like R1's do? I usually load dvd's onto my PC in order to move to the Tivo. Easier to watch since I usually watch in 30-40 minute spurts.

Worth mentioning that particular UK set has the proper Trilogy collection (#1-3) and has the 2nd film "Female Convict Scorpion: Jailhouse 41" which the U.S set does not have. The only U.S release for that particular film is long out of print.

Much thanks, asianxcore. That's exactly the clarification I was looking for.
Luckily I picked up the R2 release via Amazon UK on the cheap, but it's discontinued now because it's being re-released in that set you linked. If you remotely like exploitation films, you'll have a great time with the Scorpion films, blind buy or not :) That Hanzo set is too cheap. Can't wait until April 6th comes along! |

BTW...the prices have lowered on both Hanzo and Female Prisoner Current Prices after VAT (in pounds): Hanzo - 6.94 Female - 8.68 Going to pick up both even though I own Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion, but the copy I have I bought for $2-3 at a Hollywood Video closing and it skips badly in a couple parts. Thanks for mentioning the sets Sub |
