I ordered my Blu-Ray copy from Amazon, but I used the free supersaving shipping, so it didn't ship until today. Still, my PS3 is on backorder from Dell, so I'll probably still get the movie before I can watch it. I had a $25 gift certificate, so I got that and a shower curtain for my new place for less than $9.

The only extras I'd really care about are the statues. I wonder if I can just order them online. They would be a nice addition to a present for a friend.

And I can probably take a screenshot of my Papa John's coupon and post it here when I get home. I'm not sure how well it will scan, though.

The BB statuettes were disapointing, i ended up just picking up the Target two-disc. The case is kinda annoying, but i wanted the extra featurette.

The Circuit City covers were all in pretty bad condition due to the shrinkwrap, at my store. Corners bent badly, top and bottom of the back of the slipcover bent in pretty badly because the journal isn't quite as big as the slipcover, etc. I managed to find one that was in pretty good shape though.

Well, that's BS! Why didn't they announce that? It wasn't in their ad either. What a bunch of crap! So I didn't have to pre-order it from FYE then and pay their high price.. grrrr.... grumble!

I went to Target with the intention of picking up the Blu-ray mask but decided otherwise once I realized the outer box was cardboard as opposed to the higher quality clear plastic the Iron Man mask was in. The fact is I'll be keeping it in the box so it might as well be something that won't eventually get its corners mashed.

So, I ended up getting one of the last remaining Blu-ray Batpod giftsets instead. It looks nice enough, although I can't believe I just spent close to fifty bucks for something made of such cheap plastic. Guess I just felt an obligation to support special edition packaging on Blu-ray since it usually gets the shaft.

My local Circuit City refused to price match Best Buy ($2 cheaper) because it wasnt the exact same thing ("ours has a journal!"). Free bonus items have never been a factor before - just got an a-hole associate AND manager this time.

THEN, they woudn't accept the Papa John's coupon either. So I tossed the movie at them and said "no wonder your company is going bankrupt with service like this" and walked out.

5 minutes later, the Best Buy down the street was happy to accept my coupon, my purchase, and all my future electonics business.

I would have liked to have the Joker cover, but I wasn't about to pay $5 more for it, much less give that shitty store my business.

To be fair, I think you got lucky if you've ever been able to pricematch something involving exclusives. It's very YMMV, and technically they are correct for not pricematching.

Also, if you read the fine print on most coupons, they aren't valid on sale items. So YMMV on those as well.

I agree with you that CC is pretty awful, and that it is ok to try the pricematching etc, but I can't see getting upset over them following the rules. Just be happy when they bend the rules your way.

Update on the Best Buy SteelBook™ fiasco:

Turns out the Best Buy midnight release I went to had gotten the DK SteelBooks™ by mistake (how I do not know)...and were NEVER supposed to sell it. Some people were able to get ahold of it last night before Best Buy got the call from the higher ups. So whatever was left was pulled and shipped back. It indeed is supposed to be a FYE exclusive. I heard all this from a Best Buy person today who was trying to find one for me. I do not know if other stores had a similar issue or not. Kind of funny...in a strange way. I have no idea what Best Buy was selling them for at the time. So those people who were able to pick it up at Best Buy at midnight were very very very lucky people!

Patman 12-09-08 04:27 PM

If BB wasn't supposed to sell it, how did the Steelbook SKU end up in their system?

King Elessar 12-09-08 04:54 PM

Picked up the Blu-Ray at Blockbuster for 20.99 (Employee Discount) and ordered the joker statuette early in the morning from my local Best Buy. Got an email saying that my item wasn't available but was able to secure one at another store in my parents home state.

cranberries fan 12-09-08 05:18 PM

Well I got the Target 2-Disc-Set for $19.99 (after the Papa John's coupon)

Maybe it was originally going to be sold but FYE cut a deal for exclusivity?

RD1973 12-09-08 06:01 PM

Is the Best Buy Joker card supposed to look really faded? Mine looks like it was left out in the sun for a few days, lol.

Thanks for the update. I feel better now. :)
I can only imagine that since the steelbooks showed up at some Best Buys, employees just put them out like they put out anything else.
A similar thing has happened when Best Buy employees accidentally put out CDs or DVDs that are due out Tuesday, onto shelves on Sunday. I would go and they wouldn't be at the sale price, so I would show them their own Sunday ad, and they would honor it. But sometimes, the employee at the register would say, well, that price doesn't go in effect until Tuesday. But I just ask a few more questions, and they would "break down" and honor it.

You know you have to be present with your credit card to pick it up? And they'll only hold it for 8 days. EXACTLY 8 days. I got into an arguement before with an employee because I showed up on day 8 and it had already been canceled and out of the system.

Not really sure...but it was kind of crazy. A member on another forum said that BB had trouble scanning the SKU when they were ringing up the SteelBook version, which started the fiasco. It was pretty crazy last night, so I didn't hang around to find out what was the result since I got had already gotten mine at FYE. I just stayed long enough to make sure it was the same SteelBook and there wasn't anything special.

I'm still curious how a shipment would end up at the wrong store!!!

NiCK Crush 12-09-08 08:52 PM

Bat-pod LE BD may not be as rare as I originally thought... I just may be able to grab this one down the road when I get some extra funds  Today was brutal.

Great price if you don't care for any extras.

Any more info on this? Does the $6 work? And when does this deal expire? I don't care much for the extras, so this would be an awesome price to pay for it. Is the coupon in the december booklet? I still haven't received that one yet.

Billy Hardcore 12-09-08 09:30 PM

I guess I lucked out. I had pre-ordered the steelbook on fye for 25.99 but online it said it doesn't come out til Dec. 15th, so I decided to run up to fye this morning at about 10:30 and they had plenty there, probably 10 or so. I grabbed 2: 1 for me and I figure I can give one as a gift, and the price in store was only 22.99.

Then I saw a a single Iron Man steelbook right beneath it, so I grabbed that too even though I think it was 25.99. I know on amazon private sellers have it going for about 40 bucks, but on fye's site it's still listed as in stock so I'm not sure why. Doesn't matter cause I just want it for myself anyway though. When I got home I cancelled my pre-order for the Dark Knight of course.

You can find out by searching through the Dark Knight BD thread in the high def subforum and by looking through this thread.

Or just go here.
