Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Does Big Lots only have the full frame version of Digimon: The Movie? I picked it up today without even checking the AR, and it wasn't until I got home and opened it that I realized it was full frame...

I saw it and had it in my hand as I looked through the vast selection at one of my local stores but I ultimately put it back. I simply have to cut back on the fringe/blind buy purchases. Even at $3 I just can't afford to throw the money away and I've long ago run out of shelf space. It's certainly a sad day when I have to put back a zombie movie and the ironic thing is, I did buy Plan 9 w/Mike Nelson commentary on that trip.

OOPS! Missed that... Thanks for the correction! Post deleted to avoid further confusion.

Damn I'm looking for the original Empire Records version and my Big Lots doesn't have half the stuff mentioned on here.
I don't suppose someone could pick one up for me?

I'm going to guess that the price for a new copy is going to drop dramatically now that it's available for $3.

I picked up the following yesterday:

Good Night and Good Luck
Michael Jordan to the Max
My Man Godfrey
Plan 9 from Outer Space
Rookie of the Year
Stander

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Over the past few days, I've picked up these winners:

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie
Power Rangers: Turbo
Bushwacked
Thunderbirds Are Go
Thunderbirds 6

For good movies:

Katsuhiro Omoto's Memories
Romper Stomper: Two-Disc Special Edition (which has also been OOP for numerous years)

I also saw at a Big Lots this evening a selection of multi-disc sets from Sony. I only picked up the I Know What You Did Last Summer / I Still Know What You Did Last Summer two-disc set from just a few years ago (with the SE for the first film) for $8.

All the two-disc sets were $8, they also had:

- Monty Python and the Holy Grail two-disc with screenplay and film cel
- Charlie's Angels: Superbit / Full Throttle: Unrated
- Starship Troopers (first edition) / Starship Troopers 2

They had a slew of triple features for $11 and some four disc sets for $15.

The person who gives me advance notice said there is a new small batch for the coming week. They didn't specify what they are. Will post tomorrow with info.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Just saw the batch at the store closest to me. Sorry for the lack of detail, but I didn't buy anything.

First, there were 2 small boxes of Animae titles that seemed to be aimed at children @ $3 each. The only title i remember was Sonic The Hedgehog

There were single copies of several of the 2 disc sets others have mentioned at $8 ea. The Monty Python was 1 of them.

There were 1-3 copies of some 3 film sets @ $11 each. I don't remember titles; it was mostly "chick flicks"; there was one Barbara Streisand set & there were no more then 10 different titles at most. I have seen similar sets for $10 or less at Target & K Mart.

Finally their were a few 4 film box sets with 1 copy each @ $15. The only one I found of much interest was the Boris Karloff Icons of Horror box which I already own. I do remember one was war themed with Das Boot & 3 others, & 1 was gangster themed (recent, NOT classic).

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I found a few double features yesterday for $8 each:

Funny Girl/Funny Lady
El Mariachi/Desperado
Quick and the Dead/Bite The Bullet (says anamorphic WS on the back for both titles. BTB is also available in FS only, and can be found at BL. There is also a rarer OOP WS disc that has popped up at BL before. Just a little buyer beware in case the wrong transfer is on the disc, I'm not sure). These were thinpack releases.
I know what you did last summer/I still...

That's a smoking deal, it's a great set!

I don't think BL's going to be selling very many of the $8-$15 sets at these prices. The Monty Python collector's set is an OK deal, but personally I'm not an MP fan.

I just watched it last week and I thought it was decent for $3. It was a made-for-cable movie, so don't expect big budget hollywood. If you really like Alien, The Thing, The Abyss, Arrival, or similar movies you'll probably enjoy Alien Hunter. If you haven't seen those, watch any of those movies instead.

Alien Hunter is a low budget mishmash of first alien contact movies. Well presented, with a few new ideas, but the plot is mostly rehashed from other (better) films in the genre.
