Interesting observation: I just now got around to watching "Bite the Bullet" (1975, Hackman-Coburn-Bergen), a $3 title from the last Columbia Tri-Star wave. Even though the box says FS it's WS 2.40:1 Panavision. The disc is single sided....NOT a flipper....and the movie even has the standard "this film has been modified to fit your screen" disclaimer! UPC: 043396077614

My mistake...it defaults to FS 3:00 into the DVD. Now why would they do that? It's WS until the end of the opening credit roll.

I prefer the new way. I copy the data to my own checklist and sort by title; having "The" and "A" in the beginning of the titles screws that up.

This isn't that uncommon of a practice - odds are that the credits were designed to sprawl across the big screen, and the only way to make them readable on a 4:3 aspect ratio would be to letterbox them. Or, they could vertically squish the frame, but that may render them illegible in many cases. In any case, this only goes to show the crappiness of pan & scan as a practice.

Well I just got back from my two local BL's (Swansea Ma. and Seekonk Ma.) and Swansea had only the last display with nothing new. Seekonk however had a big brand new display, 3 or 4 levels high, and packed with the new selections. Now normally I would be excited, but I have to say I'm very disappointed. I can't believe they sliced the upc's on all of them. A good portion of those cases are now ruined. The transparent sleeves are ripped substantially, which you know is going to wind up tearing the rest of the way. Is this their way of keeping people from buying them and then instantly going to one of many places that buy used stuff to make a little profit. I've heard that's going on in this area (Mass./R.I.) with a store chain called Newburry Comics. I wouldn't be surprised if that IS what's happening because the handfull of times I've been in one of those stores I've noticed multiple copies of titles that are abundant at BL and not too many other places.

I hit two BL on the way out and found the new shipment was plentiful at the BL closest to my moms house. The BL nearest me seems to always lag about a week or so behind. I have had a good last couple of weeks finding the titles I had not picked up since the first waves hit. I wanted and a few for myself and some for X-mas gifts. Here is what I have picked up.

Generally speaking, you need the Full Screen version for T&A movies. A particular example, say with the first National Lampoon's Vacation movie, you get at least one extra nude breast view(one in shower scene and maybe another in continuation into motel room scene) then in the OAR version. I feel naughty for talking about this! Try to keep the flames down in any responses folks, I do respect OAR...

I just picked up two DVDs at my local Big Lots that aren't on the Master List:
A Carol Christmas (with Tori Spelling and William Shatner, lol)
and the unrated version of Y Tu Mamá También.
They were $2 each. Actually, A Carol Christmas didn't have a price on it, so the checker just scanned the other one twice. Didn't see a Warner display.

Just came back from the Big Lots on Cherry Rd in Rock Hill, SC.
I got ALL of the first 20 of the 'official' James Bond films, from Dr. No through Die Another Day...every single one, at $4.00 a piece.
They did NOT have the '67 Casino Royale, or Never Say Never Again...
They're all shrink-wrapped, the UPC codes are NOT sabotaged, but not a single one of them has the normal peel-off white factory seal at the top "spine". I'm wondering if these were in box sets originally...they do all have the booklets...Die Another Day is a double-disc, but NOT in a slipcase.
I'm elated to have these, and really glad I've held off on buying any of them up until tonight (save for Goldfinger) as I have no plans to upgrade beyond standard DVD anytime soon.
They had probably about 4-5 copies of each title scattered throughout their rather endless DVD display, which was organized chaos in its purest form. I pretty much spent an hour digging through the various unstable levels of cardboard to find these.
Also picked up...
A MINUTE TO PRAY, A SECOND TO DIE
RED DAWN (original release, not spec. ed)
and the only thing I couldn't find that I would have gotten was...
THE DARK HALF
saw plenty of copies of...
WHO'S THE BOSS 1st Season
Guys and Dolls (2 disc spec. ed)
Bubba Ho-Tep (with slipcase)
and a lot of other things I've seen previously at BL...

Regarding the Warner slices, as an fyi: when a cd or movie label deletes a title, they put a punch or slice in the cover or jewel box to prevent returns for credit by unscrupulous retailers. Often, this is the only way to acquire an out of print item. Sometimes the record company will also put a punch in a promo item for the same reason.
They don't personally bother me at all, I've been buying cutouts since the days of vinyl to save dollars. It does seem to happen more often on cd's then dvd's, but I strongly suspect Warners did it for the reason above.

My all-time favorite band is the Kinks, and I was introduced to their catalog via the vinyl cutouts I purchased ravenously, mostly for $3.99 a piece, in the late 80's, at Tracks/Camelot/Record Bar etc...
cutouts absolutely rock!

Picked up Lady in the Water and Wedding Singer last night in the Cerritos, CA store. Both with the UPC scrape. They had all the Bond movies @ $4 but it was a bit hard to root through them with the narrow shelving they were in.
