^^Agree. I'm already surprised they're thinking of starting a fee-based service during a recession. IMO they would be going the other way, just to keep customers coming into the store.

I think that's a little unrealistic.
I don't see that they'd need to do that just to do away with providing coupons to non-perks memebers.

My wife used to work at Borders last year and they've actually been doing this perks program for a while now. They started it when she was working there since it's been a good year or so.

I can't remember if it was free or if it cost anything to join. But it just looked like a scam to me, it didn't have any extra Borders "perks" (pardon the pun) added to it, it was just discounts to random online retailers and their random sales.

Does this mean that in order to receive any of the regular 30% off coupons we have to sign up for this? If so, I guess that 40% coupon was the last big coupon the regular non-paying borders club members are gonna see. Bummer

Here is the last one I received: 25% off list price valued through 3/1 In-store only

It doesn't seem anyone has been listening to FangsFirst. Borders Rewards and Borders Rewards Perks are related, but are ultimately different. Borders Rewards is where you get your Border's discounts. Borders Rewards Perks gives discounts to other vendors. So a Borders Rewards Perks Plus card for premium discounts at other vendors does not imply that Borders coupons (the realm of the Borders Rewards card) are going away.

So those panicking and saying their days of shopping at Borders are over can relax now. =-)

Let me also add:
THIS PROGRAM ALREADY EXISTS.
BR Perks Plus is NOT new. It started a while ago.
If I made that up, they told *US* about it a while ago.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BORDERS REWARDS (except that it is offered to Rewards members, because they have an e-mail address Borders can offer it to them with)

Borders Rewards Perks includes:
• Access to everyday offers
• Value-added offerings, ranging from "up to 10% off” coupons to free shipping and the like
• A selection of offers that is updated every week
• Free membership

Borders Rewards Perks Plus includes all Borders Rewards Perks benefits plus:
• Access to premium offers
• Value-added offerings, such as coupons for discounts of up to 20%-50% off select items, free shipping, gifts, and other unique privileges and benefits
• Invitation-only VIP shopping (specified times are available in the offer details)
• Exclusive access to private events
• Information regarding new product launches
I would like to apologize for any confusion I caused with this post. I like shopping at Borders and I often use the 40% off coupon on items other stores normally do not discount. When I saw the Borders Rewards Perks Plus membership for $29.95 on the Borders website, I was worried Borders was going to do like Barnes & Noble, and start charging for a membership that included better discounts and coupons. I didn't realize that Borders Rewards is different than Borders Rewards Perks or Borders Rewards Perks Plus.
Borders Rewards membership is not changing. It is free and 40% off coupons will still be available to all members in the future.
Borders is a great store that deserves your support.

Thanks for the clarification. Don't feel bad, it is very confusing when they name things so similarly, and many people would have inferred exactly what you did.

It doesn't help when you get users who continuously post false information as if they had an inside source, apparently for no reason other than to inflame the panic.

Perks has always seemed like a waste of time to me, but I've never investigated it that closely either. I'm a Rewards member for the coupons and nothing more. That's good enough for me.

Hey, you asked a legit question. It was only someone who felt the need to foment suspicion that was the problem.

I had my credit card charge but haven't received any shipping notice for Akira. I picked a copy at Best Buy just to be sure I got the first printing. Still, it annoys the hell out of me that Borders hasn't given me any status update regarding the order. This may be the last time I order something from them using their online service.

Has anyone on here ordered Sukiyaki Western Django [Blu-ray] and received it? I ordered mine Feb 1st and it still hasn't shipped! That is ridiculous...

I ordered a book online on Feb. 2, shipped to store. It finally shipped Feb. 11, and the store finally received it Feb. 28, but of course nobody has notified me yet that it is there. I'm with dx23, this may be the last time I order from them. They are terrible!!!

I've had all the same problems with them as you. Nothing ever ships straight away and when I would ship to store they never contact me. The last time this happened I checked the tracking number and saw that it arrived at the store 6 days prior. I called to ask about the item and they said it wasn't there, then 20 minutes later they called and told me it had just arrived (disregarding the phone call I just made to them).

Occasionally they do just arrive 20 minutes later.
Not saying that was the case, but there you are.

Also, we were originally told NOT to contact people, it was later that a change was made and we ARE supposed to, because so many people had no clue when their orders were arriving (or assumed the email SHIPMENT notice meant it ARRIVED)

I ordered it earlier than that and still nothin'. The kicker is is that I saw it on the shelf at the Danbury store this past weekend. I'm going to return it anyhow because I was able to score a copy at Best Buy for $17.49.

I'm gunna hold out for mine, because there was a 40% off coupon involved, along with Borders Bucks.

With the trouble this store had had, and the way the economy has been, I'm a little anxious to get rid of those BB ASAP!
