They just lowered the prices on some of their dvds. Some good choices for $3.95 - Cloverfield, No Country for Old Men, The Mist, Gone Baby Gone, etc.

just received 1 title from an order of a total of 11 dvds.

since the day I placed an order, I have received about 7 emails with the subject line saying that this order has been shipped. so I expected to receive all of them one of these days. when I received just 1 today, I called them and asked them what was happening.

well, I got a ton of attitude for starters. I was giving this lady the entire story about what had happened since the order was placed and to the point where I told her only 1 was received. and then she says 'well, are you finished ?' I say 'what do you mean ?' and she says 'how can I say anything if you keep talking ?' man, what a lotta attitude this woman had.

and from then on, everything was a single syllable or word in answer, with me having had to prompt her highness to say anything more than that. she says they have about 550 stores and that my order would be filled from multiple stores. I told her that if something to that effect was mentioned on the invoice I wouldn't be calling her. she says she didn't create the system.

I then asked her about 2 titles on the order that showed status as 'Item filled' with the rest showing 'invoiced'. she says casually that means they couldn't find it in the stores. I then ask her what 'filled' means in the 'Item filled' - if they couldn't find it, it should show something to that effect. I may not be an English professor but to me 'Item filled' means it was fulfilled. So I ask her how am I to understand this. She lets out a sigh on the other end without even answering.

I then tell her I have received 7 emails so far all showing this order as having shipped without any being still searched for. again, she says thats how it is and I gotta accept it.

boy, for someone that has my money, I got some serious attitude from them. am taking my business elsewhere. fuck them and their attitude.

if any consolation, the title I received was in good condition.

And don't assume just because there was an order confirmation, you will receive your title. they seem to have absolutely no control over inventory. they still show 'POTC: Dead Man's Chest' as available but apparently they don't have it as my status shows 'Item filled' for it. Filled but still being searched for - Go figure

Oh, for the love of God, why did I order so much from this fucked up company ? They ship the titles from many different places. If you placed an order for, say 20 DVDs, you might likely get 20 different packages.

Which is what is happening to me. I have 20 titles from 3 different orders. Here's whats happening/happened so dar

1. My mail box is seeing 1 come in everyday - its so bloody difficult to keep track of which title from which order is being fulfilled.
2. Some of the packages have an invoice, some don't.
3. The 2 disc title 'Casino Royale' set has only 1 disc in it.
4. The 2 disc title of 'Tideland' has only 1 disc in it.
5. The title 'Arctic Tale' is badly scratched up.
6. The 2 disc title 'Glastonbury' is badly scratched up on the first disc
7. Damaged discs ought to be shipped at buyer's expense - not theirs.
8. Your discs may take more than 30 days to arrive but you got to ship defective titles out within 30 days. Which means, the more number of defective discs you receive, the more the number of times you got to ship it back to them - what a fuck all place.

Please, please do NOT order used titles from this company. They just don't have their act together. You'll likely be in for a terrible amount of headache. Am regretting every moment for giving them my business.

you seriously need to chill out. laidbacklarkin? doesn't sound like it. I've had nothing but success with this company.. sure, their numerous emails and multiple shipping practices are totally annoying, but IF YOU ARE NICE to them, their CS is most excellent. Drop them an email about your missing discs, and they will send you another one. End of story. Talk about a freakin' drama queen.

Excellent prices on some titles.

How do you know whether or not some of these are Widescreen? Some of them specify it and some don't. Anyone have any idea?

I guess me mentioning my missing refund for my two season sets that were canceled is drama too? I called and I was told to wait to wednesday, the fact I have to wait for a refund for 10 days past issue date, has made them lose my business short term. I can say other companies dont take this long

Hi Terminator911,
When I want to check aspect ratio what works for me sometimes is that the used DVD page will have a link to the new DVD page (for the same title). The new DVD pages usually have a ton more information (including the aspect ratio) than the used DVD pages. I hope that helps you out.

if you run that tight of a budget then maybe you shouldn't be buying DVD's.

I never place more than one order from a company I have never done business with at a time. Impress me and you have a customer for life, piss me off and I will pay someone else more just so I dont have to do business with you. I never once insinuated it was to a mythical budget, but to me, they are certainly so far, worth forgetting. Not that out of a thousand or so ebay transactions I havent had some bad tales, but i *Always* got my refund.

laidbacklarkin, please cool it. no need to call people names. there's another thread you search for and people have reported that they received multiple shipments instead of one big box, and have had good luck with getting replacements.

FWIW, as I've said many times in the past, I've never had anything but a 100% positive experience with Family Video - both in store and online. I've bought new and used stuff from them, and it's all been in perfect like new condition. I've never had a single problem with the company.

I know it won’t always be that way for everyone else, but there isn't a single retailer out there that will offer up a 100% positive experience for every single buyer every single time. Not FV, not Best Buy, not DeepDiscount, not DVDPlanet, and on and on and on.

Thanks. that's very assuring. My rant was based on a first time experience both with shipment policy AND talking to a customer service rep that was less than interested in making it right. Perhaps I got a rep who had a bad day...anyway, thanks. And I apologize if I was calling anyone names - being called a drama queen kinda tossed me up a bit.

Peace.

I haven't yet tried it (don't feel like creating a new account), but pricegrabber lists of a new $3 off code for new members: NEWMEM3F. It apparently became active on July 8th, expiration unknown.

Edit: Just tried it, doesn't seem to be working.

I just ordered 9 titles from FV yesterday using the code GAMEPRO7 for free shipping as mentioned in this SlickDeals post. Prices for good movies like Sweeney Todd, Cloverfield, Assassination of Jesse James, Stephen King's The Mist are only $3.95.

Since these are used rentals, my guess is there wasn't a 2nd disc to begin with. Still a great deal if you can live w/o the 2nd disc.

Disappointing if you can't.

I just placed my first order of 6 discs (5 used) last week:

1 x Enchanted Widescreen DVD (USED) $6.95
1 x Juno DVD (USED) $4.95
1 x Matchmaker DVD $7.65
1 x No Country for Old Men DVD (USED) $3.95
1 x Stephen King's The Mist Widescreen DVD (USED) $3.95
1 x Golden Compass Widescreen DVD (USED) $4.95

Enchanted came today, by itself, in what I'd call "good" condition with a spotless disc underside and a rental hub sticker around the center. Not bad at all.

E-MAIL them, cordially. They only sent me the 1st disc of Inland Empire as well... when I emailed them complaining, they sent me another set (with both discs) without asking for the other back.

you seem to be the only one who can't grasp the concept of emailing their CS when they screw up an order. Each and every time I've done it, they've fixed their error. End of story, your highness.

Can these places that ship nationally use one of those expensive big cd scratch remover units? They buff off a tiny layer so the disc is good as new. I wonder if dvd's layering is too thin for something like that.

Your suggestion on emailing customer service worked to the extent that they have the defective discs scheduled as a RESHIP ORDER - I won't know the condition until I receive them. But please, snap out of your frickin' pompousness. I appreciate your suggestions but it don't have to come with a 'Daddy know it all' attitude.

For first time customer to experience damaged discs, missing discs and multiple shipments, it is frustrating. And you cannot deny them the right to express themselves.

Is that code one time use per account or can you use it multiple times? Also when does it expire? Thanks.
