New Funimation titles seen at Knollwood, all $3.00:

Akira Kurosawa's Samurai 7 Vol. 1
Akira Kurosawa's Samurai 7 Vol. 2
Akira Kurosawa's Samurai 7 Vol. 5
Full Metal Panic!: The Second Raid - Vol. 1
Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 11: Becoming the Stone
Solty Rei 1 (slipcase)
TMNT Fast Forward: Day of Awakening (2 disc)

Still no 2d wave of MGM titles.

basaro 07-04-08 01:17 PM

^ Nice, I hope all of FMA season 2 shows up.

I'm pretty damn sure it's a WS only version now, I saw some the other day at BL if I'm not mistaken.

This post goes along with that finding:

Are these dvds the same as the 6 disc box set?

BobO'Link 07-05-08 09:55 AM

^The ones I saw are. They are distinguished by a black keep case with the title lettering in pink and white with an image of "Pink" interacting with the title in some way. All are anamorphic WS with a 5.1 audio track. Unfortunately the 3rd film, "The Return of the Pink Panther", was not a MGM picture so you'll have to find it elsewhere.

While you're at it, get "Inspector Clouseau" w/Alan Arkin too. It's not bad (IMO better than "Trail of the Pink Panther"), especially for $3.

basaro 07-05-08 10:04 AM

On the PP films, all are in the new packaging, sans Strikes Again, that is still the older release. The new packaging resembles the boxset art, so they could be the same content. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/ima...270056&sr=1-18

darkhawk 07-05-08 12:21 PM

^I was wondering if the content on the single discs were the same as in the box set? I've already got the box set. The artwork on Curse, Son and Inspector are different than the discs in the boxset.

moklerman 07-05-08 01:13 PM

I saw 4 or 5 different "complete" manga sets yesterday from Bandai. I thought I would be able to remember them but now...
one of them was <something> Yojimbo and it looked pretty cool. $10.00 for 26-30 episodes on the one's I looked at. Probably a pretty good deal considering how much anime can get.

Damn, just realized I picked up the 'downgraded' version! Didn't even realize the original release was a 2-discer ...with the same UPC code ...that's apparently OOP (according to DVDcompare.net). I really should have been more thorough in reading this thread.

BTW, has anyone been successful in finding Die, Monster, Die! and The Pit and the Pendulum in this recent MGM lot or anywhere? I know they were available back in April(?), but some stores apparently never received that stock.

basaro 07-05-08 04:07 PM

^ Have not seen Die or Pit in the new assortment, only the newer "Midnight Movies" that have arrived.

The complete brick for $10, that's awesome. Any other stuff like Wolf's Rain, Witch Hunter Robin or Fantastic Children?

basaro 07-05-08 04:30 PM

I found the Funimation assortment today in Derry. Looked like 2 of each title.

I got:
Full Metal Alchemist Vol.11
Full Metal Alchemist Vol.12
Full Metal Alchemist Vol.13
Full Metal Alchemist The Movie Conqueror Of Shamballa
Full Metal Panic The Second Raid Vol.1 (slipcover)
Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles (slipcover)

BL UPC's of all these were the same:
550014429 DVD Anime Assortment Jun

also saw:
Peach Girl Vol.1
TMNT Fast Forward: Day of Awakening (can't remember which volume(s), I think there are 2 total)
Samurai 7 Vol.1
Samurai 7 Vol.2
Samurai 7 Vol.5
Baki The Grappler Vol.9

These are all the original regular releases too, I did not see any Viridian Collection stuff.

I'm looking for Samurai 7 Vol.3 and FMA Vol. 9 & 10 if they show up anywhere.

I got an extra of both Robotech and FMA movie for trade.

...

Also saw more First Look titles, ended up getting Miss Firecracker too.

Sammy Banderas 07-05-08 04:53 PM

I found some of those "First Look" titles at a local Big Lots today. I was only interested in the "Mayor of Sunset Strip," so I got that one (apparently, the last copy in stock).

I didn't know that either, but since the only copy when I looked was the single-disc, I'm glad I picked it up anyways. Maybe when I go back, if I find one, I'll pick it up and give the single disc to someone.

obscurelabel 07-05-08 09:16 PM

In GA, the Austell Rd. and Douglasville stores have two of the MGM displays. Nothing at the South Cobb Dr. store yet.

And now I find out the same apparently holds true for The Sure Thing.

Is Big Lots also carrying the 2-disc SE?

The Sure Thing SE is not a 2-disc, it's a flipper. The film (selectable WS/FS) and commentary are on side 1 and the rest of the features are on side 2.

I don't think it's been found by anyone at BL, I have not seen it, but I have been looking because I was aware of the switch already. I bought the SE right after it came out.

I found one yesterday but didn't get it (was a floater). They only had 1 of it and 5 of the regular one.

basaro 07-07-08 05:12 PM

^ Good eyes, at least we know it's out there. Another title to add to the master list ;)

JohnIan 07-07-08 05:15 PM

Outstanding!

I got my wish. Today I found Midnite Movies - "The Planet Of Vampries". I've been wanting that flick for over a year.

Also saw "The Thing with Two Heads" and "The Monster That Challenged the World", both also Midnite Movies.

And "Starchaser: The Legend of Orin" as well as "Submarine X-1". All still priced at $3.00; San Bernardino, CA.

Question. Is Starchaser or Monster... any good? I barely remember it.

project86 07-07-08 11:47 PM

just picked up:
To Live and Die in LA
Paths of Glory
The Brood
Killer Clowns from Outer Space
Clean Slate (haven't seen it since I was a wee lad!)

mnementh 07-08-08 05:19 AM

Argh. I just realized that Inspector Clouseau and The Son of the Pink Panther aren't in The Pink Panther Film Collection so I have to go on another Big Lots shopping trip to find them.

Curse is also not in the collection, and available at BL.
