Starchaser was originally in 3-D, but of course the DVD isn't. I have a legit VHS tape of it in field-sequential 3-D put out in 1990.
|
I have yet to see any of the new MGM/Funimation/Bandai bricks around here. :( I am all over the claymation Mark Twain and the Galaxy Angel set if they ever show up.
|
Two more MGMs found today not in the master list:
Code Of Silence (Chuck Norris) Desperate Hours (Mickey Rourke, Anthony Hopkins) |
The Kingshighway store in St. Louis now has the new wave of MGM discs, I grabbed about 8 discs.
|
Have any of these new shipments of Big Lots DVD's (MGM, Funimation, etc.) been showing up in Texas yet?
I haven't had any luck at my Big Lots but I know of one I might try out if I get word back that some locations in Texas have been getting them. |

I was aware of the switch already. I bought the SE right after it came out. Is anyone aware of other MGM (not Columbia Tristar) titles which were similarly downgraded by Sony? Looks like I'll have to spend hours (or days) researching this as I did for the Columbia Tristar debacle. |

I haven't had any luck at my Big Lots but I know of one I might try out if I get word back that some locations in Texas have been getting them. Between the 2 stores, I went a little overboard(uurrrpppp! ). Picked up over 60 titles. Out of those being in my collection already, I find that I'll be returning about 10. |
Just got back from big lots and picked up the following.
The Thing With Two Heads (Midnight Movies) Bat 21 A View to a Kill (Special 007 Edition) King Solomans's Mines (Richard Chaberlain) Code of Silence Saw The Pink Panther (1963 Old Version) Frogs Class Meteor Man |
Went yesterday and picked-up a few more I initially overlooked and some due to recommendations in this thread:
Inspector Clouseau Slaughter's Big Rip-off Code 46 Paths of Glory (Kubrick) The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes Unfortunately I never did find those SE versions of Bowling for Columbine or The Sure Thing. Had I known better I probably would have walked out with the right versions since I had first dibs. |

Sterling, VA got a handful of the new anime titles in (no season sets or cubes) - nothing exciting.
|
Thanks Paul1957 - I'll be swinging by that store Wednesday, if there's anything left at that store, after you guys swept through! ;)

The MGM display has arrived at Knollwood (St. Louis Park, MN.) I picked up:
21 Hours At Munich Be Cool (WS) Boxcar Bertha Bowling For Columbine Bubba Ho-Tep (CE) Eat Drink, Man Woman (World Films) Falcon & the Snowman Great Train Robbery Hi, Mom! Hound of the Baskervilles (Cook & Moore) Ned Kelly Paths of Glory Prizzi's Honor Shadows & Fog Stargate SG-1 S2 V2 Super Dave (Osborne, Bob Einstein) Suppose They Gave a War and Nobody Came Swamp Thing That Championship Season (1982) Midnite Movies: A Bucket of Blood Dunwich Horror Fall of the House of Usher Killer Klowns From Outer Space X-The Man With X-Ray Eyes And all the Pink Panther-related titles. My wife is gonna kill me. |
I just went by the other day and I couldn't find ANY of the HBO dvd or superbits did big lots get rid of them? I'm in San Antonio, TX btw.
Thanks! |
picked up 105 titles.
I know I will keep about 20. Most glad to get Frogs, Speechless, Konga, some Midnite movies mentioned, Rage: Carrie 2, Young Doctors In Love, Red Square May return some of the rest. I usually buy anything I might be intrested in and then research them to see if they are keepers. The problem is I usually keep most of them, but I've found some real gems. These "deals" are killing me! |

Thanks! The BL near me only got a *few* of the HBO titles mentioned. While there were 4-5 copies of some titles, others (mainly the season sets) had only 1 copy. The HBO titles were pretty much gone within 3 days. There are 2-3 copies each of the 2 Superbit titles this store received left on the shelf. They had 15-20 each when they hit the shelves originally. |
I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about movies, but I have to admit that this MGM display just about defeated me. The stuff I knew was good, I already owned. After looking at gobs and gobs of titles, I walked out with two. Maybe I'll go back after i do some research. But maybe part of it was the $650 auto repair bill I got right before going to BL. That will put a cold chill in any bargain DVD search...
