^Yep... particle board shelves that long are horrible. If there were a center support (bottom to top) it would be OK as the boards would either not be long enough to sag or the support would take the weight preventing sag. I've sworn off any particle board shelving unless the shelves are 12" or less in length. I really don't like to buy the stuff at all because it's so prone to all kinds of problems but well constructed solid wood furniture costs a bit more than I'm prepared to pay.

So... Back to the real business... with the 20% off coupon (that's good all week no less!) we need a new infusion of previously unseen DVD closouts! :)

^ when the shelves start to sag just flip them over so that the bend goes up and the weight pushes down on it so it'll look straight.

Well I have a table saw. It won't take much to cut some 8" x 6" pieces of particle wood to run up the middle. I think i might even have something with the same laminate. I modify these types of furniture all the time. Either that or start filling it from the bottom up? Wouldn't that work? I'll probally space it for blu-ray anways. I laso have a dril so it doesn't take uch to put the shelves exactly where I want them. I'll have to take a look at one Monday. There is Bush Industries factory here that makes these kind of assemble it yourself furniture. They used to have an outlet store you could buy furniture and boards etc that might of had a slight blemish in the veneer.

There's no denying that this is a cheap product. It has all of the flaws everyone mentions. But I'm not sure how much quality you can expect from $40. The shelves do indeed sag, but oddly enough I seem to have discovered an equilibrium of sorts. For a couple of weeks, I periodically would get annoyed by the shelves smiling at me, and I'd remove the DVDs and flip the shelves (as riotinmyskull has suggested) to let them sag back. After a few times of doing this, I now have only a small, barely noticeable sag left. Plus, if you use it for DVDs, you're going to have one or two extra shelves, and if you double-stack them as I have done, that seems to counteract the sagging somewhat. Bottom line, if you want heirloom-quality furniture, Big Lots is probably the wrong store for you, but for a decent-looking, serviceable shelving unit, I recommend this one. In fact, with the 20% off sale, I may go buy another...and 200 more DVDs to fill it! :)

Not much new at my BL.

However there were a few Christmas titles -- Rudolph,Mr. Magoo and another one I forgot --

at

FIVE DOLLARS.

BTW, do they always coincide those 20% sales AFTER I've spent a bunch of money.

You know, I was thinking the same thing.

That's to get you to come back and buy the titles you passed on when you were loading up. It wasn't worth $3 before but since I've already bought all the good titles I'll pay $2.40 for these questionable/unknown movies. : )

Yep, got both Woody Allen box sets, Pam Grier box and Thunderbirds box, plust about 8 other titles. For most the WA boxes would not be questionable, but I've never been a fan of the two WA films I've seen, but for 2.00/movie, I'll take another look to see what I'm missing!

Yeah, these shelves are not the greatest. I bought 5 of these at another outlet store for $20 a pop. (Don't recall the name, it was some place in New York while visiting my inlaws.) I built 2 of them and was underwhelmed but my shelves are not really sagging and I'm storing cds on them, which should put more pressure on them than DVDs.

I found some at the Mckees rocks store last year, but if you happen to be a little south, Belle Vernon has like 5 woody allen sets, and bunch of the others, and I have found the Uniontown store untouched most of the time. I have also visited the Greensburg, it has been hit or miss, I guess thanks to westergal ;)

Which titles are you guys looking for, Ill keep my eye open...

Hope you found yourself some movies at the Greensburg Big Lots when you were there. I have been out in California the past week so haven't been to Big Lots this past week to see if they got anything new in. I really would like to get the "Unforgiven". Hope we get it soon. Why pay $ 10.00 - $ 15.00 if I can get it for $ 3.00 right! I saw a Big Lots when I was going through Palmdale, Ca but we didn't have time to stop. I kept thinking, I wonder what they may have. Oh well! We will make our trip over around Thursday night to see what they may have gotten in. Hope so seeing we have the 20% coupon. Would be nice to save even more money.

I was letting everyone know on my forum about the movies at Big Lots so they could go check them out in the different States their all in.

Anyone from the Pa area, keep me posted on anything new or different. I am big into the Westerns for sure. (other genes as well though).

Will post if I see something different as well.

Westergal

Saw The Lord Of The Rings - The Return Of The King WS $3 at my local BL. Otherwise not much new lately. The display has been full and overflowing in the past month.

I agree! I'm only a fan of early Woody Allen, so I thought I already had all the DVDS I wanted featuring him (Take the Money and Run, Bananas, Sleeper, Annie Hall, Zelig, Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask, even Casino Royale..) but getting these two sets today for only $10.40 and $12.80 each (with only 1 movie, Zelig, duplicating what I already had) was a no-briainer. I might actually learn to like the later Woody oeuvre as well.

Just discovered a Big Lots near me, and i was excited and pissed at the same time. At least 5 movies I recently bought at Amazon and DD were $3 bucks at Big Lots. Excited because I picked up a few yesterday (Mortal Thoughts, Salvador, State of Grace, Agnes of God) at $3 each and went back today and picked up 13 more only this time the clerk gave me a 20% coupon (woo-hoo!) so I got them for $2.40 each. They were:

Audrey Rose
Bowling for Columbine
The Day After
Hi, Mom!
Hollywood Homicide
In Cold Blood
Never Talk to Strangers
Nobody's Fool (Arquette/Roberts)
Red Dawn
Speechless
To Live and Die in LA
Unforgettable
The Woman In Red

This was the Nashua, NH store.

Torchur317 10-10-08 05:19 PM

Picked these up with the 20% off....

Johnny be Good
Hideaway
Gleason
S.F.W
Don't come Knocking
The Fugitive Kind
Like Father like Son

Cardsfan111 10-10-08 08:44 PM

Found a Big Lots that seemed to have restocked with single copies of lots of the HBO titles I hadn't seen previously.

Picked up:

Angels in America
The Best of Arli$$
The Hitchhiker
K Street
Lucky Louie

All of those were blind buys, but at $2.40 each I'll give 'em a shot. In addition, I found single copies of Blade Runner DC (snapper case) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2-disc).

On a separate note, a big thanks to Autolycus for his efforts to keep the master list updated!

Thanks for stopping by that store, that stuff has been there a while. I think they need to move more stock to put new stuff out, so every little bit helps. :)

They had these last night in the larger BigLots near my office. They are a bunch of motocross videos. They were all $2. Nothing else new.
