Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

I order the Sound of Music Blu ray Gift Box as a gift using the 25% coupon. Today I received the package but instead of The Sound of Music I received a book about the Gipper. The real one, not Ronald Regan.
Anyway I was able to exchange it at a local Barnes and Noble store. First time I got the wrong item. The person who ordered the Gipper book and got my order in error got a real bargain if they have a blu ray player and like musicals. Its odd that my package had the right packing slip inside but the wrong item. Meaning they could not send my item to me nor could I mail their item to them.

Got some hesitation at the first store I asked. They wanted me to come back after I'd received it. Tried at another store and got it taken care of, no problem. In the end, I got the BBS Blu set for $58.64 and that's after California tax.

Are all the 25% in-store coupons dead? Shit!

I F'd up, too. I didn't realize they were expiring so soon...

Holy crap, I just realized this thread is almost 2 1/2 years old!!! And we're nearing 100 pages! The Part 1 thread was only 54 pages, and went for 1 year 4 mo. I wonder at what point Lasermovies should start a new thread...

Time flies, since it truly seems like we just started the Part 2 thread about a year ago...

Me three. At least it saves me the hassle of driving to a B&N that has decent selection.

A mod locked the first thread because of length. I was actually thinking of starting a new thread but thought I would wait until after the Criterion sale ends.

They don't really lock threads for "length" anymore. I always thought that was a silly thing. I say keep this one open as long as LASERMOVIES wants to keep updating the OP.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Yeah, some mods in some subforums still lock threads for length, but it isn't necessary anymore. Personally, I think it's better to just have it all in one thread.

Come on B&N....I need another coupon for the BBS set.

My thanks to Laser for providing those 25% off coupons (and all other B&N coupons). This weekend I picked up 3 Criterion sets all at 25% off. Outstanding.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Well if there is no reason to close the thread for length, and no one minds a long thread I can keep this one going.

Also I just added a new 15% member store coupon and 10% non-member coupon to the list that are valid from November 18 to November 21. Did not see any 25% store coupons today but discovered B&N has come up with a new way to hide coupons from prying eyes. It could make it more difficult in the future to find store coupons if this what I can expect.

This coupon is only accessible through a link in an email from Barnes & Noble to our customers. If you did receive that email, please click through that link directly. If you did not receive that email from us, we invite you to shop at www.bn.com.

I guess I won't be using the coupon on the BBS box set. B&N raised the price of the BD to $100.

I finally got to the store tonight to try for a price adjustment, but the clerk looked it up and told me that it's now basically $100. :( No only was I bummed, I had to explain that I was not crazy. Oh well.

I should clarify these new store coupons are 15% or 10% off your entire purchase.

I don't want to start ranting without someone else checking, so could someone please go to B&N online and confirm that each of the Top 100 DVDs now comes with the following message:

Note: This item does not qualify for coupons or promotional discounts unless expressly stated.

I put an item from the Top 100 in my basket, and no coupons work at checkout. If true, this might be the last straw for some B&N shoppers.

I did find a few that didn't have the no coupons disclaimer but the majority of the top 100 did. Not good.

From what I can tell it appears they are putting the restrictions on all DVDs discounted 30% or more. However with the exception of Criterions on sale it doesn't look like they are doing it with blu-ray titles yet.

I should add it makes these 15% off your entire purchase online coupons they sent out a joke. I'm finding less and less reasons to purchase anything online if they are going to continue to make all these restrictions with coupons and discounts.

You are correct. I was going through my wish list and all DVDs on sale at 30% off or more are ineligible for coupons. Shopping at B&N.com will probably end as soon as they restrict coupons on 30% + Blu-ray (which will probably be any minute now).

Looks like B&N is closing down the discount portals; the 'library' link front page says it's being canned Nov. 30, and apparently it's not the only one.

Shame; losing the 10% members discount was the reason I didn't rejoin, and being from outside the US, the free shipping doesn't apply. The 'library' link was a decent perk.

Don't see any mention on the AAA portal.

It appears all but AAA will be ending on the 30th. I assume the AAA discount stays because it's a perk of a paid membership as opposed to a "portal" anyone can use. B&N is really clamping down on online discounts.

I've never used the Library link before, but I plan on putting in an online order for some Criterions. I've never really understood if anyone is allowed to use the library link or is it something for library employees, etc.?

Also, I'm not planning on renewing my membership for the exact reasons you mentioned. It's no longer worth the $25/year for me to be a member. I literally only buy Criterions twice a year (during the sales) and the occasional magazine from B&N. The books can be found cheaper just about anywhere.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

So is B&N doing this because of monetary problems? All these recent changes give me the impression that the accounting group crunched numbers and thinks they'll get more revenue by discontinuing all these various discounts. While I'm sure some people shop only at B&N online and will continue to do so, I always look for the online retailer with the best price. For the past few years, that has almost always been B&N, but if I start finding the best price elsewhere, I'll buy elsewhere.

And I agree that with all these negative changes there is no need to renew my membership next August.

I found a 20% coupon code but it may not work unless you have the specific credit card listed. I tested it with my Mastercard and said I was not eligible for the offer. However it might work if you have an American Express card.

Code: P8P7J3W

Macy's American Express(R) Card Exclusive: 20% Off 1 Item Coupon Details

This coupon can be redeemed online at BN.COM and is valid once per billing address. Customer must make full payment with a Macy's American Express Card for discount to apply.

This coupon is valid from November 15, 2010 to December 11, 2010 at 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time.

The additional 20% discount will be applied to the most expensive eligible item in the order - not the entire purchase - and will be deducted after all other eligible discounts are applied.

Additional Rules Governing Use of this Coupon: This coupon is (i) not redeemable for cash or cash equivalents (including Gift Cards and eGift Cards); (ii) not valid on past or pre-ordered purchases; (iii) not eligible for purchases of the following products and services: Barnes & Noble Memberships, Gift Cards, eGift Cards, gift-wrapping, textbooks, digital content (including but not limited to digital books, magazines, and periodicals), NOOK(TM) and related accessories, other hardware and electronics, software, products available for pre-order, products from the Rosetta Stone Series, shipping or handling expenses, or products marked as not eligible for "coupons or promotional discounts;" (iv) not valid on purchases made from third parties accessible from the BN.com website (e.g., used books, PC and video games, etc.); (v) may not be combined with any other coupon; and (vi) may not be combined with the Educator program discount. This coupon is not valid at any Barnes & Noble etail stores or Barnes & Noble College Bookstores. Void where prohibited by law.
