Gladiator Extended Edition 3-Disc $5.00 @ Dollar General

went by dollar general today check out the dvd selection and found 1 copy of the 3 disc gladiator it was marked 2/$10.00 but rang up at $5.00 had a March 2008 sticker on back. This was in a small town in Missouri. I have a photo of it but the forum won't let me post attachments.

freakin deal of the century if true, however, um, just a SLIGHT case of YMMV.

Digital Saint 03-15-08 07:56 PM

Yeah, that's awesome, I thought I got a great deal on the set when I found it used at Gamestop for $9.99. ^_^

Easily one of top 3 favorite movies, historical inconsistencies be damned.

Wow, thanks for the heads up on this. I drove by a dollar general yesterday and something was nagging at me to stop, but I didn't of course. I'll have to make a point of getting there ASAP.

Any sister/partner concerns here in SoCal ? Didn't even know there were no Dollar Generals here

Damn....I paid I think about $35 when this first came out. $5 is a great deal!

No go at my Dollar General. They only had lousy dvds of Hee Haw, and Walmart bargain bin crap.

dollar generals in my area are like big lots in my area, extremely vhs intensive!

This Dollar General DVD deal sounds like a rare deal. I usually find great movies I want there for less than $6 apiece, but they end up "gently" used and often go way down in price for new copies at retail stores. For example, I picked up Sideways and Inside Man for $6 apiece at DG used, only to find them at Target for $5.50 a month later, new.

Walked into dollar general today in western NC and found this same DVD. it appears to be a part of a new case (it was just opened on the floor) and it looks like it comes one per case. other movies included the old version of fun with dick and jane, virus and ed tv. I will upload a picture of the dvd with the sticker from the dollar general still on it in a bit

I also just picked this up at the Dollar General in Liberty Hill, Texas (and yes, that's as far out in the sticks as it sounds like it is). It does indeed look to be one per display/case. Plus, the helpful Dollar General employees love to put DVDs in any random spot that they happen to have shelf space available, so you probably have to search around. (At this store, I found DVDs in three separate places. But still only one Gladiator.) The only other halfway-decent title I saw in this new display was A Very Long Engagement, also for $5.

Anyhow, thanks OP! Great deal.

On a lark I stopped by the DG in Oceans Springs, Mississippi.
They had one Gladiator!

Brent L 03-17-08 02:30 PM

If I spot one of these at any local DG stores, I'll pick up what I find and offer them to you guys that can't find it.

My Other Self 03-17-08 03:14 PM

Ahh, we don't have DG out West. Oh well.

Lecithin 03-17-08 03:18 PM

Thanks for the tip! I was near a Dollar General in Etowah, NC and sure enough, went in to find exactly one copy of this on the shelf for $5. Thanks again!

Much better picture than mine :-D LOL

Neil M. 03-17-08 03:39 PM

Well I'm off to track down a copy. Luckily, there are 3 stores near me. I'll be pissed if I don't find one.

FangsFirst 03-17-08 04:43 PM

why on earth is there such a concentration of North Carolinians (including myself) on this board?
PS: no sign so far in durham.

Sondheim 03-17-08 04:52 PM

No luck at the Provo, Utah store.

:(

Neil M. 03-17-08 05:19 PM

Went to the first store. They had the box but no Gladiator. Went to the second store and they had it way in the back. They weren't even near the other dvd's. I almost left because no one had any idea what I was talking about. Luckily, I don't give up easily.

Thanks to the OP. This is a great way to start the week.
