Thanks for the hope.

Actually...red tags are what the F4 hung in the lockers of the poor individuals they planned to harass in Boys Over Flowers a.k.a. Hana Yori Dango (sp?).
I've been waiting for this one for a very long time.
Oops...don't want to get too excited. It might not be that anime.

So I'm not really new to anime and all but I haven't really bought much in the last couple years other than the Akira Spec Ed, Captain Herlock, Noir, and Licensed by Royalty.
What are some really good sci-fi animes? I don't want Robotech style, nor do I want cutesy manga style. I'm looking for stuff in the vein of Appleseed or Ghost in the Shell.
Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.

There are a lot of animes that are not about robots, like Geneshaft, Infinitie Ryvius, etc, but some of the best long running serialized animes have robots in them. Patlabor is a great series. Don't let the fact that it has robots in it stop you.

If you want to know more about the series you can always use Wikipedia. That's what I do, which usually links to other series by the same director.

Planetes is good, but I think Votoms is pretty underrated mainly because it's an older series. (I still need to pick up the Votoms tin)
We need to get some of the older stuff over here, but alas they'll just never license some of the classic stuff because I guess the fees are way too high or are tied up in legal limbo. It would be so nice to see a R1 boxed set of Future Boy Conan with proper English subs. (Talk about one of the best anime series ever made!)
FYI: If you liked Capt. Harlock you'll LOVE Capt. Tylor (Watch the TV series first, then OVA), the character even references the series a few times.
