Thanks for the hope.
This is YMMV. My local Suncoast/FYE is only running B2G1 on all anime and save up to 50% off on anime boxsets (mostly ADV titles).

Yes, but it doesn't mean that will be related to the anime. Last year, the Day 12 offer was Samurai Champloo: Complete Collection. It doesn't really deal with the number 12.

Sale on Bargain Basement items? I think I'd buy half of everything in there if it was a good deal on those

Actually...red tags are what the F4 hung in the lockers of the poor individuals they planned to harass in Boys Over Flowers a.k.a. Hana Yori Dango (sp?).

I've been waiting for this one for a very long time.

Oops...don't want to get too excited. It might not be that anime.

Hope it's a good deal then. I've never seen it and it sounds interesting, however, I do like the Bargain Bin idea better. Even 25% off would make me grab quite a bit of the titles there... Wishful thinking =D

If it's a Hana Yori Dango bundle, I will likely get it. I have been waiting for a good price for this series.

So I'm not really new to anime and all but I haven't really bought much in the last couple years other than the Akira Spec Ed, Captain Herlock, Noir, and Licensed by Royalty.

What are some really good sci-fi animes? I don't want Robotech style, nor do I want cutesy manga style. I'm looking for stuff in the vein of Appleseed or Ghost in the Shell.

Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.

Votoms would be a good place to start. Hmm. You can go back even futher with Galaxy Express 999, but there is no US import of it that I know of (which is too bad). Same for Future Boy Conan, etc.

There are a lot of animes that are not about robots, like Geneshaft, Infinitie Ryvius, etc, but some of the best long running serialized animes have robots in them. Patlabor is a great series. Don't let the fact that it has robots in it stop you.

Robots are fine, I just don't want the big epic Robotech, guys in robot suits fighting anime. Just not my cup of tea. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into them for sure.

Well, Votoms and Patlabor aren't really like that. The suits are there but the story and characterization is primary and the fighting is secondary.

If you want to know more about the series you can always use Wikipedia. That's what I do, which usually links to other series by the same director.

Check out Planetes. It's one of the best space sci-fi shows ever produced!

Planetes is good, but I think Votoms is pretty underrated mainly because it's an older series. (I still need to pick up the Votoms tin)

We need to get some of the older stuff over here, but alas they'll just never license some of the classic stuff because I guess the fees are way too high or are tied up in legal limbo. It would be so nice to see a R1 boxed set of Future Boy Conan with proper English subs. (Talk about one of the best anime series ever made!)

FYI: If you liked Capt. Harlock you'll LOVE Capt. Tylor (Watch the TV series first, then OVA), the character even references the series a few times.

I would certain double dip on a Future Boy Conan R1 boxset. However I just don't see how any studios would license this.
