Oz: The Complete Seasons 1-6 $99.49 on Amazon

I remember missing a DOTD on Amazon, when this was about $99. Don't know how long it will hold, but I want this box-set badly for this price.

Hopefully your DD purchase was part of the current sale - in which case your total was only about $8 more than the Amazon price. It coulda been worse ...

Since these are being reduced everywhere, might we see a complete set released in '08?

Just finished watching the complete series in about 1 1/2 weeks. This was one of the best tv shows I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend this to everyone, it is worth the price!

Are these just the season sets bundled together or is it packaged in a neat box? The pictures on Amazon show both.

^ I think they are sets bundled together, the pics of them in a neat box are user pictures. If ordered I would expect to receive the bundle as shown by Amazon itself.

Oh I thought that user thing was a special Amazon box, now I'm not so upset. I already owned S1 so I guess I ended up saving ~$10!

Oz has been getting the shaft continuously since 1997, I doubt one is coming, but that'd be cool if there was one.

I'm determined to wait for a HD release even if it takes years. If it never comes, well then that sucks.

Are these pics really a 'user created' boxset ???? Seems almost too good.

**** I did a search on eBay last nite for the complete OZ set and noticed that this picture was used on several occassions (and yes... I know .... eBay def is not the source of truth ) Is this a complete single box - no site has any pictures.

Anyway - thanks for the TIP !! I ordered the complete set last nite - and then combined the order with my outstanding PRE-ORDER of BLADE RUNNER to save on postage (Aussie here !!). I had half expected that the Oz collection would be kept until Blade Runner box was shipped - however a few mins after combining it shows that the Oz set is being prepared to ship already !!

QUICK AMAZON.COM QUESTION :

When COMBINING ORDERS - what does this ACTUALLY do for the shipping charges ????
I would have expected it to ADD to MY EXISTING ORDER an additional item charge (of $2.99 per DVD item). Instead - it added $4.49 -$1.50 more.
I'm not 'complaining' about the extra $1.50 - considering IF the Oz collection is ALL THOSE INDIVIDUAL BOXES and that my shipping price is a real bargain. I'm just 'curious' as to how the COMBINING SHIPPING CALCULATION WORKS.

thanks !

what are you 'expecting' to be different with a HD release ????

note - it was filmed in the 4x3 1.33:1 ratio - so dont expect a widescreen release. it aint gonna fill up a 16x9 HD screen.

I too just dropped lots of $$$ at DD. But one of the things I dropped the $$$ on was the last two seasons of Oz to complete my collection.

It's aspect ratio is irrelevant, there's still room for improvement in the picture department.

Doubt it. But since the series was forced fullscreen (with bars on the left and right embedded into the damn transfer) so you can't stretch it on a widescreen television, maybe there's hope. They really F'd the transfer. I bought this myself but once I saw the forced bars, I sold it like a hot potatuh.

You wanted to stretch it to 16:9? I didn't know there was a lock on that for transfers.

Kind of hard to explain, so I'll make a little photoshop diddy:

They created a widescreen transfer, but overlayed the fullscreen program on it. So now, you get black bars no matter what. It's part of the program. Rather irritating. I commented on this in another Oz thread where it went on sale and I mentioned the people who did the transfer. They were absolutely retarded.

Oh, I understand now, didn't know that they did that. Maybe they're really sticklers for OAR. >_>

Few questions about that:

Would that be considered Anamorphic in any sense?

And would zooming help at all, or does it result in a worse resolution than stretching?

It would be Anaretardic according to my own special home theater terms.

Yeah, I tried zooming, and you'd have to zoom 8x or 10x or the maximum on your TV to get rid of the bars. Basically, it looks severely artifacted because of the zoom so it's useless.
