Yeah, that's why I say in the FAQ that this certainly isn't the be all end all of deals. Its big advantage, though, is that EVERYTHING is on sale (well, almost). Other sales might be better, but they only include about 50 or so titles, or up to 200 for the really big ones. And of those, most of them are titles that the company is just trying to get rid of because they're old.

treeman 11-03-07 06:25 AM

When you live overseas it is better trust me.

You save on postage as you make huge orders.

If i lived in the US i could buy stuff as soon as it goes on sale because DD have free delivery.

With DVD box sets, if the price is really high I just wait and eventually they get reduced or else they find their way into some 20% Off or B2G1F deal. That happens for every single DVD without fail. But there are CD box sets that have literally been on my want list for 10 years that I've never seen anywhere on sale or ever dropped a dime in price since their initial release. You'd think with the diminished profits the record companies are seeing that they'd be trying to increase CD sales more by promoting more price reductions and big sales. The more DVD sales plateau the more great deals seem to abound, but it works just the opposite for CD's.

I'd heard somewhere that retailers are not allowed to sell cds below a certain price. Much like how Apple doesn't allow their products to be included in sales and some studios may not allow their dvd titles to be included in sales. I don't believe a retailer would be allowed to have a " Rolling Stones catalog, 6.99 per title" sale even if they wanted to.

It could be that music royalties are a lot higher too.

Completely false, you heard wrong.

Until a recent supreme court ruling, that was considered illegal in all situations. Even now, it is considered unlawful in most situations and no one is engaging in such a practice for music or movies.

It would be nice if DD would list the Peter Watkins titles that are coming out (Edvard Munch DC 2 disc and The Freethinker) as that is about all I really want. Sigh.

I'd just bookmark this thread. It should happen very soon. If not, call me Daft DVD Polizei. :D

Actually those B1G1 frees sales have been subpar compared to the B1G1 sales last year. It's been very depressing on that site. I have however upgraded to HD-DVD so my interests in ordering overseas has comeback, so hopefully they have this 20% off again, might pickup about 10 HD titles sand save 20 bob. The prices in Australia for HD-DVD are very expressive, in fact I can only find 1 store who supplies them, and that's ezydvd, they charge between $30-$45 a title and considering the aussie dollar is nearly the same as US it's time to order overseas again.

DVD Polizei 11-04-07 09:40 AM

Yeah, I agree. The BxGx have been slim pickens.

They're New Yorker titles, DVDP and DD don't carry New Yorker titles.

Sabrett 11-04-07 10:02 AM

I'm getting antsy for this sale. I want to pick up things such as The X-Files: Complete Series, and Blue Planet. So far, the 20% prices are the best out there.

Yeah, I hear ya, box sets are the best way to optimize savings during the 20% off sale, I have been wanting the newest box sets from simpsons, south park, sopranoes, mst3k, 24, and King of the hill and I have been waiting for months, anticipating this sale.

ENDContra 11-04-07 08:01 PM

I know some people said they raised some prices on certain DVDs right before this sale began last time. Im looking at some HD-DVDs such as Batman Begins because Id rather buy it from DD than get it as my 3 free with an A3 purchase as it is one of the cheaper movies listed ($19.32). Whats the chance they jack these prices up before the sale begins?

Its funny how I asked about the B1G1 sale at DD a while back and was slammed by someone and got thread locked just for asking. So I did remember right, there is a semi-regular B1G1 sale at DD?

Well, I created a post here with a few DVDs and prices with a date attached. You could do the same. We could compare notes when the sale starts. :)

davidlynchfan 11-04-07 10:40 PM

That Twin Peaks Gold Box of mines better not get jacked up from 63.99 :fc:

treeman 11-04-07 11:59 PM

Can't you just remember the prices?
It's not that hard if you have them saved in your wishlist...

-Ben

DVD Polizei 11-05-07 12:01 AM

The wishlist will change price as well.

not with over 30 titles on your/my wishlist.
I copied and pasted my wishlist in Notepad.
have noticed a few changes in price, mostly in my favor.

treeman 11-05-07 01:06 AM

Yeah i can basically remember the titles though. I have like 20 titles and can basically remember them. Not to the cent but roughly.

All that seems to be added to this thread lately is comments about price fluxuations. I wouldn't mind seeing them moved where pilot said they belonged. Let's keep this thread clean.

I'm not getting much. It's still such a good deal, but I'm not in the greatest financial place at the moment. I'm just picking up a few titles I sold previous releases to grab (ie ANGEL: Complete Series). I'm getting the I Love Lucy set for a friend (I sold his previous sets on Ebay for him so he could get the new set).

I was hoping to have enough to grab My So-Called Life, Twin Peaks, and the Seinfeld Set, but I might have to wait until MAY for those... it bites because I already sold all my copies of the previous releases to pick these up.

I was all set to get the X-Files set, but with the recent announcement of the new movie, I think I'll hold off for the time being to see if they release another "complete" set...

Palpadious 11-05-07 01:35 PM

Damn, is that Sergio Leone Anthology ever going to get to the $40 range? I'll never forgive myself for missing that $35 deal from Amazon.

movieking 11-05-07 02:32 PM

Now that we have a favorable exchange rate, I might have to break down and get some titles.
