Dogfights & Engineering an Empire for me; not bad for $33.
|
World At War. Might just bite and get the History of Britain with it.

I really recommend Longitude if you don't have it. Expensive sucker for a movie ($26.xx), but it's pretty informative A&E docudrama about the invention of the nautical compass (can't think of the proper term off-hand).
Also, you might checkout History Channel's WWII Ultimate Collections set, but I can't remember if they are exceptionally good or not. |
Debating Jeeves & Wooster and Nero Wolfe myself...
|
Thanks for the heads up, HE! Heading that way now to place some orders (have a friend whose mom is a MAJOR Dr. Quinn fan). Missed the Emma Peel set last time around...some fine stuff here.
Highly recommend THE SAINT megaset (and I loathed Roger Moore as 007), SECRET AGENT megaset, DANGER UXB, NERO WOLFE, & a host of others. Also recommend History Channel (DOGFIGHTS, CIVIL WAR). |
Forgot about DANGER UXB. Damn it. And the holidays aren't even here yet.
|
Julias Caesar's Rome, Emma Peel and a few others for me. I remember when the lastB1G1 A&E sale ended the 20%off sale started so i'm not sure how much i want to spend here just in case.
|
Good point. Btw, World At War has a ship date of 10/8/2007 and is not "in stock".

I don't understand why they use so many discs on these A & E sets. The prisoner Mega set only has 187 episodes but it takes up 10 discs. Others are worse than that. Jeeves and Wooster is on 8 discs but they don't use slim cases. These sets take up so much room on my shelves and must cost a lot to ship. |
How many discs is WaW? 11? As long they aren't flippers. Oh, and I think this is the 2004 release version. There was a 2001 edition which didn't have the 11th DVD.

The 11 discs appear to come in slimcases, which means floaters are also less likely! |

Wow, I was considering getting World at War during the 20% off sale, but this seems better...I take it History of Britain is good then?

Went ahead and got Danger UXB and Shaka Zulu as well. |
dang, I have been waiting for this sale to pick up Prisoner and World at War, but of course the Prisoner Megaset isn't available this time. :(
|
That World at War set is a must have....and an excellent price!
|
Picked up Complete Emma Peel and Complete Danger Man - thanks for the heads up as I've been meaning to get these for some time now! This is getting me ready to pull the trigger on the Man From U.N.C.L.E. set just announced!

I remember enjoying "Reilly: Ace of Spies" when it first came out on PBS. Excerpt of the description:
"What sets this series apart from the deluge of other titles in the genre is that Riley was a real person, and the events portrayed all actually happened. With that in mind, viewers are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as the deft crime solver undertakes some jawdropping feats of bravery during his missions. The original inspiration for the James Bond character, REILLY: ACE OF SPIES is a glowing testament to one of the all-time great spies". I might have to get this and World At War. |
Sale code problem
BUYONEGETONEANE is not working for me. What code did you use?
|
You don't use a code. It automatically discounts the cheaper of the 2 titles you buy.
|
Thanks for the table Toyboat!
I'm in for the Twins 1987 World Series and the Jeeves/Wooster set. |

Well, I didn't. But maybe you have your browser and cookies set differently. I just clicked on the link in this post, put two titles in my cart, and voila, my lowest-priced title was discounted.

Man, I need to get Kids in the Hall and Upstairs Downstairs...I've waited forever to get these. This has got to be the best deal ever on those sets.
|
Might as well. Beats any "20%" sale.
|
I'm going to resist. Last year I bought Nero Wolfe and Hornblower in A&E's sales and haven't watched a single episode on either. (Besides, just got some nice UK comedy from sendit.com in the mail these past two days...)
|
Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but I just got an Xmas present request from my daughter for the box set A&E BBC series of Pride and Prejudice, so until now I had not been looking.
Are there any good sales on it, or past sales that WERE good prices that I can base my deal-hunting for it on? |
If it's part of this sale, you can either get it along with something else, and get the lower-priced item for free, or you can wait until November for the 20% off sale.

Are there any good sales on it, or past sales that WERE good prices that I can base my deal-hunting for it on? I take it you are referring to the Pride and Prejudice version starring Colin Firth, which comes on 2 DVD and ia about 6 hours long. You can either buy this alone repackaged with some fancy packaging and I believe some packaging include a little book also, but I am not sure. I think this usually go for a price in the twenty something dollar range. Have not seen this one item on sale per say. However, for even more bang for your buck you may want to consider getting the A&E Romance Collection 1 which also includes the above mentioned Pride and Prejudice along with several other costume dramas. The collection retails for $200 but I have seen it on sale for $60 on the A&E ebay store as well as on the www.shopaetv.com website. |
Thanks for very informed and complete answer! It doesn't look like this title is included with the sale and I don't know if she wants the other titles in the whole Romance Collection, but that would be a good price in any event.
|
I'd get the Nero Wolfe set, but it appears it isn't OAR. Though the review on this site suggests it isn't as big a deal as usual.

Exactly what I just bought. Been meaning to pick up Nero Wolfe for a while now - so this works out perfect for me. Don't really know a lot about Jeeves & Wooster, but it certainly sounds like something I would enjoy - so it should be a nice little blind freebie. |
