Re: The Winning Season

That was a made for TNT production so the 1.33:1 aspect ratio may be its IAR rather than a modified one. Don't know for sure though as I could only find one DVD review and it didn't provide much info nor did IMDb.

Not surprised. The two closest stores to me didn't bother to actually put a price up on the displays. No one likes being surprised at the cash register at WM.

The one near me (Springfield) is gone as well. Last I checked, there were still a ton of DVDs, I doubt they even sold half.

Maybe there moving the stock over to my Wal-Mart, I have yet to see this display in the store.

Gone in Augusta Maine too. So is the $5 Halloween display (I guess turning the calender over to October is a little too close for comfort) which is too bad, because I was planning on grabbing a copy of the Day the Earth Stood Still today. Oh well.

TexasDVDer 10-02-07 10:46 PM

I finally found the display at my closest Wal-Mart. It was stuck over by games. The 3-sided display had other displays blocking the left and right sides. It was like they didn't want anybody to find it. I saw none of the 30-disc WTCs, only the 2-disc version.

The display to the right had some 2006 DVDs that had the Wal-Mart "Exclusive" bonus attached for $9.96. I got X Men-the Last Stand/X-Men Revealed, Ice Age the Meltdown/Chillin' with Scrat and Little Miss Sunshine/Music CD.

That's because they don't exist! :D

I'm going to check out the two Wal-marts here in town tomorrow. If I find anything, I'll post here.

Not yet, but never underestimate the power of double-dipping in today's DVD market. ;)

Best thing to do is look for a red sign near any registers that says "We Guarantee the Low Price and the RIGHT price!" or something like that. The policy is stated on those.

I think some stores have taken them down in a fit of rebellious prevention of money bleeding, despite no change on company level in the policy (it's actually that they ring things up with a price override and reason code 1, which is for mis-scans, which the computer training tells you, but the physical people in the store usually tell their cashiers to always use reason code 4, which changes ONLY the price, without the $3 savings)

Those signs disappeared here long ago! If you question it you'll typically get a blank stare and the checker will call a manager over. I've gotten everything from "OK" to "We don't do that" to "It's only $3 or the difference in price, whichever is greater". As far as a lower price they always say "Either the lower price or $3 off not both".

Trevor 10-03-07 07:45 AM

Everyone who email or PMed me about the extra WTC 3 discers I found at Burke, I'll get back to you tomorrow. Again, sorry for the delay, just been working 12 hour shifts and busy outside of that. But if you contacted me already I have one saved for you. I think it will be app $7.25 each ($4.25 title, $1.50 shipping, $1 envelope, $.50 paypal fee).

As of two days ago, the West Sacramento Walmart had multiple 3 disc WTC dvds located near the front of the store.

At least at the store I noticed the policy at the other day, it is printed at the checkout aisles under, or near, the area one would use the credit/debit payment machine.

I saw what may be a 3 disc version of MI:2 at Walmart today for $3.98. It has a stickered barcode placed over the original barcode and then a small sticker on the front proclaiming 2 DVD set w/ bonus disc (not sure if that means a total of 2 or 3 dvds?). I don't remember any stores having any exclusive bonus discs for the MI:2 SE. I looked at Trevors list, but didn't see anything.

Best Buy had a bonus disc, hopefully it's in my list. I forget where the sticker was on it, but I am almost positive that the bonus disc was attached separately unto the back of the case. You would see it easily if it was the BB 3 disc version.

Trevor 10-03-07 02:21 PM

My bad, you were right. It was MI-3 that had the bonus at BB.

I don't remember any 3 disc editions of MI-2.

I would buy it and immediately open it inside the store. If it only has 2 discs, return it as it indicates 3 discs. If it does have 3 discs, buy them all (I'll buy 2 copies from you at least).

anybody in Nashville?

bmello 10-03-07 04:44 PM

Been to 3 Walmart's in Jax, no go on the 3-Disc WTC or 2-Disc MI:3. I've looked through over a hundred copies. Anybody care to post a picture of the 3-Disc WTC?

It is exactly like the 2 disc, except everywhere that "2 disc" is printed, it says "3 disc".

It's also bluish in tint, instead of silver.

Ahhh, I love paying the premium price of $24.99 for Target's "exclusive" 3-disc "deluxe" World Trade Center, only to have it show up a little later as a $3.98 Wal-Mart special!

It makes me want to buy even fewer titles new when they are release; I've cut back quite a bit already, picking them up used later for much less...

I've pretty much given up on buying discs at release. They are droppin to $4-9 very fast these days.

C_Fletch 10-03-07 09:51 PM

"I've pretty much given up on buying discs at release."

Ditto here. Unless there is an exlcusive that I want. Which is every few months.

zekeburger1979 10-03-07 10:37 PM

Can anyone who got the 3-disc WTC answer a question? Did the cover have a sticker on it indicating 3-discs or just the very bottom? Stupid me was looking for a sticker at Wal-Mart today.

I pretty much avoid almost all new releases for this reason. That being said, there's no way to have expected it at $3.98 at any point! Any multi-disc title for that price is hard to believe.

shyguy1083 10-03-07 10:52 PM

no sticker. if you look at the writing on the actual cover on the bottom, it specifically says "3-disc commemorative edition featuring interviews with survivors" or something along those lines. at least this is the case with every 3-disc WTC i've seen.
