Is there any confirmation that the whole set is in HD? I can imagine that just a specific cut of the film is in HD, then the rest of the discs are SD.
|
The pricing really is no surprise. Regular DVDs cost under a dollar to produce, including packaging. HD and BD aren't going to be much more than that, say $3 tops, but probably much closer to $2. So there is still plenty of margin in these prices.

Is it just me, or is $27.95 an insanely low price for a 5-disc Blu-ray set? Considering a lot of single Blu disc releases are upwards of $34. Was never a huge fan of Blade Runner, but at this price I can't pass it up.

Yeah, this seems like a really great value for the price. I picked up the HD-DVD version. Thanks to the OP for posting this.

This release could make a bunch of people that have been sitting on the sidelines blink and by a player. |
not that it would make a difference but does anyone have an email address for warner brothers home video? I want to send them a comment about not offering the 5 disc set without all the extra crap?
|
I picked up the 5-Disc Ultimate Edition (HD-DVD) from WB with the 20% coupon... ended up being $63.96. I know the 5-Disc Collectors Edition should be enough but I think having that briefcase on my DVD shelf will drive my roomate nuts!

In for a HD DVD set. Props to the OP. If this goes thru, it'll be the biggest score since the K-Mart Ultimate E.T. box deal.

I emailed Amazon re the 10% discount and received:
Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com. I've investigated your order and found that it qualified for our discount of 10% offer. I see that this offer was not properly applied to your order. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. To correct this error, I have reduced the cost of your order by $2.80 ($27.95* 10% = $2.79). I hope this solution is satisfactory. Thank you for your understanding and thanks again for contacting us at Amazon.com.. Down to $25.15. That's reasonable.:) Phil |
What's this 10% discount? In for the briefcase (I had it on alert (blu-ray) and ordered it right when I woke up this morning)

They need to stop bundling content with useless junk like big cases and helmets.
Who the hell wants this crap?? |

HD or BR adopters have a choice between briefcase or no briefcase. The rest of us either have to buy the bloated toy box, or settle for the 4 disc set which omits the workprint cut, a commentary track, and a documentary. When you think about it, the 4 disc set is completely unnecessary. With the hi-def 5 disc digipacks selling for only $3 more than the 4 disc SD digipack, they should just eliminate the 4 disc option, and offer a 5 disc SD DVD digipack for the same sub $30 price as the hi-def versions. |
Oooh, gotcha. My brother gets that 10%. I forgot all about that. Thanks for the clarification! I'm hoping that it'll pop up on DVD Planet soon so I can cancel my order w/ Amazon and apply a coupon code/up my points at the same time!

10% discount is working automatically now.

Regarding the signed personal letter, no doubt it will be like the Joss Whedon 'signed' letters in the Buffy sets, and just a printed signature. I hate when they make it sound like a hand-signed item, when it is not. Fortunately, the Buffy set was for my wife, so no biggie for me, but she was a little disappointed.

Man, that's tempting. I still won't have an HDTV for another year or so (after our remodel) and am still waiting for a winner in the HD format war. Got to resist......:hairpull:

And, as for a format war winner, either Blu-ray will will or both will survive, but it's pretty obvious that HD won't end up the last format standing. So, go with Blu-ray and you win either way. |
