Thanks a lot FangsFirst!

Looks like I'll be heading into work early so I can stop by Borders.

Don't forget -- $10 off $50 through 7/31. Good on sale items ... right, Fangs?

Fangs, sorry to change the subject, but I've got a burning Borders question:

I stopped by my local Borders tonight to see how may copies of Popeye the Sailor: Vol 1 (BINC: 8954189) they would be receiving next Tuesday. To my shock, they showed that they were receiving ZERO, NADA, ZIP! How can that be? Probably one of the most anticipated animated releases this year and they aren't going to carry it?

They obviously can order it for me, but I wanted to get it on 7/31 in order to use my expiring Borders Bucks. Any chance it will magically show up on Tuesday?

If they don't list it as on order even at this point, highly unlikely. If they ordered it for you, there's a CHANCE you could see it come in.
Unfortunately, the buyers do not always expect traffic for releases that are highly anticipated within niche markets but NOT overall. Which is kind of silly, since we tend--at least in my store--to cater pretty *exclusively* to the niche markets...
Anyway, again, if they don't list it as on order--let alone in transit--I'd say your chances are somewhere between slim and none.

Thank you FangsFirst. I picked up four movies this evening:

Kikujiro
Nine Queens
The Fast Runner
3-Iron

I'd never have thought of getting the first 2 titles except for seeing them in the store.

At the store I went to, the DVDs had "2 for $22" stickers and were displayed on a separate rack far away from the DVD area, closer to the Music section. I found a few of the titles on the "Foreign Film" shelves also, but they didn't have the "2 for 22" tags. I wasn't sure that they were discounted and almost left the store empty handed, until I found the other movie rack where they kept these DVDs.

Yeah, they're supposed to be on a funky lookin' table known as a "Speedtable"--but the ones in section that aren't stickered should work just fine too.

Thanks for the feedback Fangs. Guess I'll go the Amazon route for this title and use my Borders Bucks for something else.

Highly recommand Kikujiro! exceptional beautiful and moving film! one of the few non-violent movies from Kitano Takashi.

I like 3-iron, but sure it's not for everybody's taste.

Is the sale over? I brough a couple discs to the counter today and they treated me like a criminal when I tried to get the sale price. They had a display of CDs at 2-for-$22 but no DVDs.

Shouldn't be--though I'm not working today, so I guess they MIGHT have pulled them early.

This was a full-fledged Borders, right?
Not an express or an airport store or anything....?

Could be a "limited DVD placement" store...I'm not 100% sure if those stores are doing this sale. I think they are though.

The prices should come up automatically once two titles are scanned though.

I'm pretty sure The Big Blue is out of print also. So, pick it up while you can.

Hi all, long time reader / first time poster here.

I picked up:

The Big Blue
The City of Lost Children (been waiting a long time to find these first 2 on sale)
Bread & Tulips
& The Garden of The Finzi-Continis

all for $44 + tax. DD would have been around $90!

Thanks for posting!!

Mark

You know, golf86 and to anyone else, you could have gotten 5 DVDs for $45 plus tax by using the $10 off $50 coupon. If you purchase more than two, you do not need to purchase in multiples of two.

It was a full-fledged Borders, the Park Meadows location in Denver. I bought a bunch of stuff the previous day at another location but they didn't have one movie I wanted from your list. They eventually honored the sale price, but when I was leaving the "promotions manager" accosted me and asked me a bunch of questions... basically treating me like I was dishonest.

Anyway, if the sale is still going on, I'd love a corporate phone # to call to give them my two cents. Is there such a number?

Do you know which version of This is Spinal Tap that is?

I might go tomorrow to pick up Amelie and Run Lola Run.

To take a general note from Speedy's style of response:

(only version in print anyway)

Wait, so you were trying to get the sale price on a SINGLE movie? That would be why they did that...it DOES say "2 for $22" on the stickers and signs...if you'd brought in a receipt for the original transaction and had an uneven number then, shouldn't have been a problem...They'd return one, then resell it with the new one you were getting, voila! problem solved. That's how I do such things, anyway, if it fits the deal just fine, I'm ok with it, and that would. But trying to get it on a single title is sort of odd...if I'm understanding you correctly.

Anyway, if the sale is still going on, I'd love a corporate phone # to call to give them my two cents. Is there such a number?
Honestly, not sure. Doesn't really ever come up for us...except a creepy guy who followed people around the store who wanted to talk to our DM after we told him to stop :P
https://www.bordersstores.com/care/care.jsp?page=7 though.

But, if I'm understanding you correctly and you were trying to get a single movie for $11, I don't think there's much to be said, since that's not what the sale is...but there's the number all the same.
Honestly, the previously mentioned "once you buy 2, you can get any number more, not necessarily even" thing is a glitch to the best of my knowledge, They do it about half the time they do these sales, I thought I noticed it when I made my purchase...I've noticed it present with CDs, then the next time it was gone. But they occasionally do things like that without saying and MEAN to...so who knows?

I got two movies, Bread & Tulips and Run Lola Run. There were no stickers, no signs and no bin at this location.

With every business I've ever worked for, the only way to put in a complaint that will go anywhere is to call the corporate office. Thanks, though.

So, is the sale still going on?

Yeah, though I actually had issues with it today myself when I rang up a member of my staff.
I (obviously) knew the titles she'd grabbed were on there (did worry I'd accidentally added 12 Angry Men when I was supposed to be taking it off, as I did do that with one title I forget, but I just double-checked my copy of the charts, and they're on there) so I just modified it manually.

Sheesh tho, should've checked the charts (the person who harassed you). They're all listed right in there...

Tried this - they told me no other coupons could be used.

My cashier said that because the %-off coupons can't be used with sale prices. I had him read the fine print on the $10-off coupon and he proceeded to scan it just fine.

This is the flaw when a store hires people who don't think very hard. I train my people to READ the coupons.
Not that they always remember (or listen in the first place...).

But, that's very true--I used one such coupon myself.

Yup - I used the $10 off coupon with the 2/$22 promotion no problem. And thanks much FangsFirst for posting the list of sale titles!
