Bah my order has been processing since June 1st. I only ordered two items. How long do I have to wait before my items actually ship? I don't remember my previous orders taking this long for in stock items...

Anyone know how long back orders take with DD usually? I ordered the complete Calvin and Hobbes collection and was wondering about when I could expect it (or should I expect it to be cancelled?).

In past sales whenever I had an item on back order it was usually back in stock within 3 weeks. So far I haven't had any cancelled on me

I placed my order on Wedensday night. I selected Next Day Air trying to get the package before the weekend. They usually ship the orders the next business day - based on my previous orders.

I email them on Thursday night and tell them that I expected my tracking number and that it needs to be delivered on Friday as selected or at the very least Saturday. If not I don't want to be billed $ 16.95 - as selected. They can give me free shipping.

I receive the UPS tracking number very early on Friday. It shipped Next Day Air Saver and I won't get it until late Monday. I'm kinda mad - I wanted the dvd's quick but if not before this weekend - then I could wait. Now I'm out 17 bucks.

Did I have the right to assume that I would get the package on Friday? Do they have the right to take their time with my package even though it should have had priority? I don't know. I should be watching some dvd's right about now - instead of thinking about this.
Based on typical DD order-to-shipping times you could expect an order placed Wednesday evening/night to ship on Thursday afternoon and arrive on your doorstep sometime Friday. But a 20% off sale is not a "typical" time. Personal experience and others postings of shipping times during the 20% off sales tells us that the later into the sale you order the longer it usually takes for the order to go out the door. So, taking that into consideration plus that "overnight shipping" only means you'll get the package the next business day after they ship and NOT the next business day after you order, combined with placing an order on a Wednesday, I would not think you could assume you would get the package on Friday. I would assume Monday or Tuesday and hope for Friday at the best based on the shipping reports being posted.

Short answer: IMHO, no, you don't have a right to be angry.

On a somewhat different note regarding shipping times, what's the best strategy for delaying shipment as long as possible? I'm going to be out of town until July 4th and USPS delivery will be suspended. Sometimes they hold packages in such circumstances, but other times they return them to sender. If I place an order in the waning hours of the sale on the 17th and request free shipping, is a package likely to reach California in the next 17 calendar days?

I also live in California and it has been my experience with DD that it takes about 6 to 7 business days to be delivered. So that would put delivery at about June 26 to June 27 based on ordering the last day of the sale, the 17th.

DD might have a surge in orders as people who are sitting on the fence finally decide to order so that might delay delivery by a couple of days at most as they work off the backlog. Still that would put delivery around June 28 to June 29...

You might have your dvds delivered to a trusted friend, or you can have them delivered to me and I'd be very happy to have them!

I guess you have to hope that every title you order on the 17th is out of stock and will not be restocked until after maybe June 27th?

For those of you sitting on the fence looking at the Lois & Clark sets, DD has dropped the price again. Before 20% it is $29.38, after 20% off they are $23.50 per season. Don't know if you can get a refund of the difference for those who have ordered already.

Update:

My order shipped on Monday and got here today. I live in the northeast of the US around Boston for those wondering on how long the free shipping on in-stock items is taking.

Did they recently drop "FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON" in price. I see it's at just below $30 before the discount now. Now I've gotta get this one...

I ordered this a few days ago at the 34.xx price. It has already shipped but I wanted to know if DD will price match the drop? Or is it too late because the payment/shipment have already gone through?

I ordered both seasons of Doctor Who and they shipped on the 4th with free shipping. I got the package yesterday. Free shipping to Florida.

I've never done it but I think you might be able to email them and get the credit back. Give it a show. A phone call might work better.

My first order only took 4 business days with expedited shipping. Several backordered items are still in limbo. It's too bad DD doesn't offer any kind of layaway option, but I suppose that would mean added cost to them.

I've already got most of the titles I wanted from this sale, so I may just sit it out the rest of the way. I have DVDs from several DD sales ago sitting in my backlog, so it's not like I'm running out of things to watch.

I've had the Homicide set on my wish list since the last sale when I got the Six Feet Under set instead. Very happy to see it at this price. No hesitation. Can't wait to get it.

You get your stuff a lot faster than I do then. I live in California and it takes a minimum of 10 days to get my orders. Usually it takes about 15 days.

To the other people posting about UPS' shipping, I completely agree. I'm just about at the point where if a business only offers UPS I tell them I won't be buying from them because I hate UPS. It amazes me how they find new ways to screw up my orders. The are the worst.

Canadian Customers

Interesting change for Canadian customers. It now lists standard delivery time as 7-10 business days rather than 10-20 for the same flat rate of $5.95. We'll see how accurate that is...I hope it is!
