Luckly I got my Fighting Spirit order in time that they had all but 14 in. I ordered that from DD for 16, knowing my luck it will show up in the Rightstuf sale soon. Given that the sale will be around for another 21 days they'll probably get more from the manufacturer or one would hope. I just wish they would add Star Ocean EX 1 with box.

Anyone have an opinion on Fafner vs. Gungrave? I don't really like extreme violence, lots of blood or nudity. I hear good things about both series, but which is better to go with for now (at least until I scrounge up some more money for another order)?

I haven't really tried either genre too heavily yet. Saw some of Gundam Seed, it was OK. I'm just starting RahXephon and it looks pretty good so far. Gungrave, the closest thing I've watched was Cowboy Bebop. It was really good but the movie and a couple episodes were a bit too violent or weird for me.
Maybe Stellvia instead?

I'm just hoping my order doesn't go through until the ROD box comes back in stock!

Suggestions?

i loved gungrave...absolutely brilliant story...lotsa character development...beautiful animation...i mean it's a series about 2 best friends who join the mafia and how they progress through it...and it takes a sci-fi turn about half way thru..and just gets progressively better after each episode so i would def recommend it!

Fafner has drawn comparisons to Neon Genesis Evangelion and RahXephon. So if liked either of those series, you may like Fafner. If you don't really like extreme violence, and lots of blood or nudity, Gungrave may not be the way to go. I personally loved the series, but it may not fit your preferences. I just started watching Stellvia, so I can't really comment on it.

Ai Yori Aoshi/Enishi is one of my favorite shows. However, Geneon just released the entire 8 disc set as a bundle. You can get the bundle at Deep Discount for $32 with the 20% off code. If I were you, I would order it from DD and get 8 other selections from RS. If your order hasn't been packed for shipping, RS will probably let you swap them out for 8 other selections. Give them a call, their customer service is top shelf!

I think you may have this confused with Galaxy Railways. This one is about a kid that joins Harlock's crew while searching for the murderers of his father. They fly in ships, there are ghosts and paranormal science stuff, but no trains that I can remember.

I couldn't decide on what to get so I took out ROD and ended up with:

Fafner 1-7
Gungrave 1-7
Haibane Renmei 3-4
Last Exile 1+Artbox+Extra
Niea_7 1-4
ROD 1
Stellvia 1-3 (after vol. 3 the story is much less interesting IMHO)

Total savings on items on your order: $688.00

Thanks for the advice WTK,DVDmaniac14 !

Aw... If you decide to do another order, I'd highly recommend ROD. And I enjoyed the second half thoroughly. Fafner, from what I've seen, is decent, but the only reason I ordered Vol. 3-7 is because I wanted to complete my series (I'll get around to it eventually, but it's not high on my viewing backlog at all).

Last Exile is also an EXCELLENT series. One of my favorites, all around. If I didn't have such a huge backlog, I'd give it another go in a heartbeat.

I'll have to see if my local FYE/Suncoast put out Hellsing early, and I may hit up Best Buy for Highlander with that coupon (they usually take the 10% off sale stuff if I buy a few things).

Now would you find it nescassary to watch Ai Yori Aoshi before Enishi? Or could I enjoy the second one with out the first?

Also what is your opinions on Gad Guard, Stellvia, and Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy?

Thanks again!

Stellvia's a little odd. It does seem D3 hit a climax, then we focus on the "kids in school" relationship thing. It seems to focus more on character interactions and conflict than the major external conflict...I've also only watched 11 episodes, though, so more could happen. I got it in the last 100/25 sale, just now watching it.
I'm tempted by this sale, but I picked up a lot of what would interest me last time, so I'm having issues picking things out.

If you're only going to get Enishi and not Aoshi, you can easily pick up the plot. However, the show is basically about the bonds of friendship and the characters are all introduced in the first series. Enishi is just a continuation, so you might as well watch from the beginning if you are going to get all 8 discs.

Hello there

I happened to watch all of Stellvia and found it to be a pretty slick show. I was interested in the mecha aspect of any show, and this one had some. It wasnt as creative as say a show like Gundam Seed, or Full Metal Panic, but it did its job. Like one of the other posters stated above, it does seem to focus on the social aspects of the characters, and that isnt to bad. Once I got into it, I didn't put it down, so that made it nice. I could see myself rewatching it once the backlog is done because it is a nice little story.

As for Sugar, I can say i have that one as well. I only watched the first disk or two, but my neices both watched the entire thing and the movie. It seems like more of a kids flick, but the quality of the work/character design made it easy to watch. Also, it was tough not to root for the main character, Saga, in the story because they made her pretty solid. This one is more for the kids in my opinion, but probably a fun thing to watch regardless.

I never took a look into Gad Guard, so I couldnt tell you much about that one.

Good luck with your choice, as from what I read about Gad Guard, you really couldnt go wrong on all 3. Since it looks like your going to watch Ai Yori Aoshi anyways, of the two out of the 3 I've seen at least parts of, Stellvia looks like it would be 'closest' to that.
