Re: Coupons for DVD Planet/Digital Eyes Thread II
Here are some coupon codes that I received by email from DVD Planet:
JUNE05 = $5 off $60 (Expires: 06/30/2009)
JUNE010 = $10 off $120 (Expires: 06/30/2009)
JUNE015 = $15 off $175 (Expires: 06/30/2009)
5OFF50NOW = $5 off $50 + free shipping (Not sure how long this one is good for. There was no expiration date in the email. Maybe it's designed to bring back customers after their website was down for days...) YMMV on this one.
Also, the Frequent Buyers Club points have been updated through 6/6/09.

Their website "was" down? Isn't it still down? I can't get a page to come up. Pinging the server get resolved by the DNS into an IP address, but the pings are not returned.

Re: Coupons for DVD Planet/Digital Eyes Thread II
I just browsed DVDPlanet.com again. Everything works fine, added a few more things to my wishlist. On their homepage, they have Gran Torino featured as their "Pick of the Week".
I am also using IE8 on the Vista O/S with service pack 2.

I can't get anything at DVDPlanet with IE8 or Firefox 3 (on WinXP SP3, since DeepSleep mentioned using Vista).
Cleaned both caches, deleted all DVDPlanet and DigitalEyes cookies, turned off Norton IS 2009. Nothing.
Pings are still not returned, either.
Can someone who can access their site try pinging them? Get to a command prompt and just "ping www.dvdplanet.com." My DNS is resolving them to IP address 130.94.70.189, but then I get 4 "request timed out" errors.

I can access the site, on XP and both IE8 and Firefox, but also get timed out errors when pinging them.

Re: Coupons for DVD Planet/Digital Eyes Thread II
A possible theory why some folks can get the website, while some folks cannot...
Their website was down for several days, indicating a possible severe problem on their end.
To avoid being down indefinately, DVDPlanet set up a mirror site at a different address location on the web.
For those that cannot get to the website, you ping and get no response.
Is it possible that your internet service provider has not updated their address database to take you to the new mirror website when you type www dvdplanet com and instead still takes you to the old address with the non-responsive pings?
I am NOT a computer expert and I am not sure if what I said makes any sense at all, but it does seem to explain the situation....

It's a logical theory, but the folks who are able to access the site seem to be getting the same IP when they resolve the hostname. Are you getting a different one?

I have no problem getting to the site either.
One thing I noted is that unlike the past few sales, everything I want is cheaper at DDD than DVDPlanet. I guess they have raised their prices over the past few months...I only have around $50 credit so I'll just try to buy $50 in DVDs that are as close to the prices at DDD as possible when the sale hits.

Re: Coupons for DVD Planet/Digital Eyes Thread II
DeepSleep's post got me thinking that maybe it was something about the route to the host, and not the PC, that was the problem.
I downloaded and installed HotSpot Shield (from AnchorFree), which is basically a proxy (with encryption features for WiFi). Using HSS, I can connect to DVDPlanet no problem. With it off, my PC won't connect. So, AnchorFree's servers have a clear path to DVDPlanet, but my network doesn't.
And I should mention that all this absolutely did start when DVDP's servers went down last week. I had recently sent in a box of DVDs, and I had been checking the site daily for updates to my account. No problems up until their crash and they went offline. Whatever they wound up doing to fix their server problems is apparently an incomplete fix.

Same here. DVD Planet's Criterion prices are terrible now - $30.36 (!) for the upper-tier titles, when they were once $25.95. I probably won't be buying a single title from them this year, when in the past they would get the great majority of my business.

If you want to clear your DNS cache you could try...
Here's how to do it for both Mac and Win
• Quit your browser
-----
Mac:
• Open the terminal application in your /Applications/Utilities/ and type the following (It will not return a result, just a new prompt will appear)
dscacheutil -flushcache
------
Win:
• Go to the Start menu and select the following:
All Programs-->Accessories-->Command Prompt
...and then type:
ipconfig /flushdns
You'll then see something like:
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache
-----
• Re-open your browser and try viewing the page again. You may have to refresh more than once if the page is cached or you can clear your browser cache.

Re: Coupons for DVD Planet/Digital Eyes Thread II
I just did some browsing at DVD Planet. Added a few things to my wishlist hoping that there will be a good sale soon. I also used their quote machine.
Everything works fine for me. Not sure why some folks still can't get to their website.

Great! My entire wish list at DVDP has disappeared. Guess they don't want my business during the upcoming sale.
