My Best Buy in Chicago to get a price match you have to have the ad and then they call up the store from the ad nearest to the Best Buy your at. And then while your holding up the line they come back and give you a "NO!" and an excuse.
Circuitt City and Wal-Mart price match as long as you have the ad with no questions.

That's YMMV.
Technically CC "shouldn't" give the 10% except in the way that BB does (and BB does, too).

It's *supposed* to be for those who already bought the item and bring in their receipt and the ad (or whatever)

The new Best Buy in Tosa, Wisconsin automatically pricematched my Snakes on a Plane DVD because CC was cheaper. I didn't even asked, she just did it and told me. It was awesome.

Pricematching at Besy Buy seems to vary by store (of course they wouldn't admit this!)

The store near where I work requires you to go to Customer Service to do a pricematch, since they are unable to do so at the regular registers. This store also calls the competition to double check on the price. I once had an ad and asked for a $1 pricematch and they actually called the competition to verify the item was in stock and at that price! Seems to be waste of the store employee's time, not to mention the customers!

My reaction is just to visit another BB store where they don't hassle you.

YMMV! And They don't give 110% pricematch like they advertise!

That's Circuit City. I've never heard of Best buy offering a 110% price match.

In my area, Best Buy is notorious for claiming that they called to check stock and the other store was out. This usually happens with the really great deals, like when Toys R Us had an awesome deal on Phantom Menace (I think). The Best Buy rep called TRU and then said "sorry, they don't have any in stock, so we don't have to price match." To which the guy said "funny, I just came here from there, and I highly doubt that they sold over 100 copies in the 5 minutes it took me to drive here."

The "customer service" rep still refused the price match, though.

Best Buy does offer a 110% pricematch, but it's for already purchased merchandise. If you go up to customer service and pricematch it at purchase, they'll just match the price. If you go through a normal cashier and pay full price, and then go to customer service, they'll do the pricematch and 10% of the difference.

If you pricematch when you are buying the item they'll give you the sale price at the other store.

If you buy the item at Best Buy, then show them the ad from the other store, they'll refund 110% of the difference.

For most items it wouldn't be worth it to buy, then go to the counter for 110% of the difference, but for large items it could be worth it. And for what it's worth, per a different thread, this is the same policy that Circuit City is starting (110% only if you have already bought the item).

Correct. And you don't have to ask for it. Their system will automatically give an additional 10% of the difference whenever they pricematch a previous purchase. I know for sure because I did a pricematch today with a trainee, and the person training her said it is automatic. And indeed it gave 10% more... I pricematched to Circuit City's internet price. I just printed off the web page, and had no issues...

I've done price matching on BB at CC, and on CC at BB. Most recently, I bought the PC game FEAR at CC with a price match on BB - BB ad had it for $19.99, CC's price was $29.99 ($49.99 sticker!) and I got it for $18.99.

Also got CompUSA to pricematch CC on a PC power supply. The CC listing said not available in stores, only online, but they still matched it to the tune of saving me $25.

Circuit City is very competitive with pricing, quite often beating Best Buy, but as has been said, their DVD sections are too small, poorly layed out and badly organized. They need to give more space to properly organize the inventory.

CC also frequently runs out of stock. Not sure if it's because of customer demand on their advertised specials, or because they didn't get enough to start with.

It's also a pain in the ass to checkout at Circuit City. There typically is never anyone at the two or so register stations. If you're buying a DVD, you have to try to track down someone in the area to pay at a stand, or go up front to the customer service area. This is the one thing I'd want to see Circuit City improve upon ahead of anything else. They need to have a better way to check out/pay.
