That's still too much for the 1st season of The Office - it's 6 episodes!

You will also have to pay tax + $5 canadapost handling fee once it gets to your door. Unless it happens to slipby customs, which for me doesn't seem to be happening anymore. They seem to catch every single package from DDD.

I think if you announce a sale, you have to stick with that. It is not a crime, but I think it is definitely disrespect to the consumer.
Lol @ all your posts being about those NBA DVDs.

Yes, definitely true, still a great deal though...especially on box sets and more expensive discs in general.

Cheers

Hi, wonder if anyone can help me here.

I am thinking of getting that new Doctor Who First Season(retailing $100 dollars, is this freakin ridiculous or what?). The price is about $52.00 after the 20% discount. It only has 13 episodes and runs about 9 hours 45 minutes. Is this show that good? Even with the discount, it still seems pretty expensive for just 13 episodes. Typical american sci-fi tv shows cost around 30-40 dollars and you get 22 episodes. I already purchased season 9 of stargate for 27 dollars. Is this new Doctor Who show just over hyped? I read some positive reviews at amazon and the review here on DVD talk by a reviewer seems positive. Have any you guys seen the series and can comment on the entertainment value? I only vaguely remember watching those old doctor who show as a kid and looking back the old show does seem kind of hokey. I am only 34 and was never actually a die-hard fan. Have they improve the show to today's standards? Will this show only appeal to the older fans who grew up with that old version as a kid? Is the special-effects on this new version cheesy?? How come those british TV shows are so expensive and you only get just a few episodes. Even on the old shows from the seventies, they are ridiculously priced. What's with that? Seems like you don't get much value buying those British shows.

Also, have anyone of you seen the Forsythe Saga, the new version made in 2001. Was it good?? Is it worth shelling over 52 dollars for both series 1 and 2 after the 20% discount??

One final question. Any of you seen Monarch of the Glenn?? Is this just plain soap-opera??? I heard it is like the Scottish version of "Northern Exposure". Did you like it?

It is *so* worth $52.00.

It's worth twice that, even!

The new series of Doctor Who is totally unlike the old series. No special effects, much different cliffhanger format, much better acting, etc.

I loved the old one, too, but if you're concerned the new one will be 13 episodes of rubber costumes and bad computer effects, fret not.

Of course, that's just my opinion...

Now i'll agree that the price of the New Dr Who is overpriced. But it is a well done and good Sci Fi series. The dvd set is really well done, and its worth the $52 in ihmo. All BBC shows are all overpriced it seems as well. Also with the box set you also get all the documentarys that BBC showed after the Dr Who show on a bonus disc.

$19.99 for Firefly is an excellent price. It's a shame that DDD is not selling it for less. Firefly is one of my all-time favorite blind buys. What a great series. Very creative and fun. It's a shame it was cancelled.

I decided to buy it after a ton of people recommended it in a DDD 20% off sales thread last year.

No special effects? lol, that has to be a typo. And I respectfully disagree about the acting comment. While it's true that there was a good deal of poor acting in the old shows, there was also a fair share of good acting, esp wherever Tom Baker was concerned. Also, it's not just the "cliffhanger format" that's changed, but the entire structure of the show. The old Doctor Who used 2-5 episode adventures whereas each episode in the new Who is pretty much self contained and there's a grand underlying stor.y that links them together (the only other season of Who that had a season long plot was the Key to Time).

As for the cost of BBC shows in general, perhaps it's because of licensing costs.

Does shipping affect order processing?

A question for those of you who have received shipping notices - did you pay for a shipping upgrade? My order with free shipping seems to be stuck in processing status, making me wonder if those who pay a premium get priority service. Worst case, that could result in in stock items going out of stock for us penny-pinchers who ordered first.

If such is the case, it may be worth upgrading for Tuesday's orders. I foresee a run on a title like Forbidden Planet (CE) quickly pushing it to OOS status. By the way, do 11/14 releases become eligible at midnight CST or EST?

Hell yes. I cringe every time I see that price. I paid about $160 when the box was first released. It's all regular keepcases, and now it's in slimcases.

I got in on this, it is on backorder with a ship date of 11/17, so maybe they will change it's status then.
