Also spotted a few copies of Panic Room Special Edition (3-disc) at my local Big Lots.

JohnIan 03-10-08 07:02 PM

Also picked up "Dead Birds". Blind purchase.

I got one of these today. The cashier ringing it up got all excited and went over and snagged herself a copy, too. There were only three of those. I got a few of the others already mentioned mostly blind buys. It's cheaper than renting.

DarthVong 03-10-08 08:03 PM

Picked up

The Forgotten
Monster 2-disc SE
Philadelphia Annv. Ed
xXx Unrated Director's Cut

FangsFirst 03-10-08 09:53 PM

pretty good little flick imo. strange though. a weird mix of esoteric horror and western heist bloodbath...

Sondheim 03-10-08 10:36 PM

The store in American Fork, Utah just got a new shipment of titles in. I picked up:

Being Julia
Closer
In Cold Blood
Panic Room (3-disc)
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

I'm thinking of going back and getting "Breakfast on Pluto" and "Where the Truth Lies".

Now I just want to find "Joyeux Noel", "Philadelphia" and "Stand By Me".

Yes it was. I always list the wrong titles. That's my trademark.

Stand by me is really hard to find. Joyeux, they only had a few copies but more than stand by me, Philadelphia is easy to find.

Most DVDs in my area are gone. My closest BL had like 12 bins (and they arrived last week) and I don't think they can fill one bin anymore. Unbelievable.

All of the ones I mentioned were Sony/Columbia/Tristar and $3.
(I didn't mention getting the $4 supernova so I wouldn't get mocked ;))

Wish I could find Stand by Me as well.
And hopefully the "boxed" version of Legends of fall that's similar to it and the River Runs Through It "set" that also showed up at BL...

basaro 03-11-08 04:55 PM

Additional Fox/MGM found today:
X2:X-Men 2 (FS)

Additional Sony:
In The Line Of Fire
Legends Of The Fall (not deluxe)
Mortal Thoughts
Whatever It Takes (SE FS)
Face Of Terror
Physical Evidence (OOP?)
Solo
Cliffhanger
Cops And Robbersons
Under Suspicion (Liam Neeson, not Hackman/Freeman)
Like Father Like Son

Just to note, I have seen this one (Hackman/Freeman) at BL, though I think it was 4.99.

The same local store which got the Spring sale table last week also got in a major restock of Sony titles this week.

In addition to a restocking of some of the older Sony titles (Batman serial, Dean Martin Double Feature, etc.), they got in almost all of the new Sony titles recently seen by FangsFirst and Basaro.

For a store which up until a week ago hadn't had any new DVD stock since Black Friday, this was quite a turnaround!

Here are some new titles I saw which I don't think had been previously posted (I'm sure there were other new ones as well - these are just the ones I can remember):

Songwriter (1984 - Willie Nelson)
Sheena (FS)
Suspect (FS)
The Cheap Detective (FS)
Casey's Shadow (Walter Matthau - FS)
Gigli
Face Of Terror (2003)
The Silencers (1966 - Dean Martin as Matt Helm!)

The copies of the Clint Eastwood movie In The Line Of Fire which I saw at this store were the old 1997 "Deluxe Widescreen Presentation" not the 2001 "Special Edition."

I picked up:

Panic Room (3-disc box set)
In The Line Of Fire (I know it's the older edition, but I liked the cover art on this one better than the newer release - which I'd already bought used - now I've got both)
Bitter Victory (1957 - Richard Burton, directed by Nicholas Ray)
Breakout
Brother
We Were Strangers (1949 - John Garfield, Jennifer Jones)
End Of The Affair (1955 - Van Johnson, Deborah Kerr, Peter Cushing)
The Statement
Zelary
The Silencers (1966)

I still have yet to see any of the $4.00 Fox/MGM titles in our area.

C_Fletch 03-11-08 09:37 PM

Found Winged Migration as well as a large box of other titles at the Eastgate Big Lots location in Chatttown

Yeah, that's been at BL before too, months ago. It is also a Sony title so it should only be $3 if you can still find it. I bought mine at BL sometime before Thanksgiving.

I didn't get Bitter Victory this time around because I believe it was fullscreen.

I also saw a bunch of the other new stuff you mentioned, but didn't find any of the titles I was really looking for: Panic Room, Winged Migration, In Cold Blood, Truth...N.M.

I only picked up:
The Statement
The Thin Red Line
Breakout
Grateful Dawg

docdoowop 03-12-08 11:00 AM

From the Knollwood (St. Louis Park) Big Lots, these MGM/Fox titles, all $4:

Legally Blond 2
Far From Home
Paparazzi
Gangster Number 1
Fog SE
A Guy Thing SE
Flamingo Kid
Supernova ("including alt. ending, deleted scenes, r-rated version")
Wicker Park

Sony $3 titles were restocked, and they had at least six copies of these:

Iron Eagle
Sniper
Breakfast on Pluto
London
The Woods
Desert Heat
Being Julia
Wild Things 2
Second Chance
Charlie's Angels superbit
Pursued

I also saw a number of "thematic" two-packs from Direct Source Media at $4 per pack. Studio credit on the rear is "Freemantle", whomever they are. These all appear to be TV movies, some issued under different names:

Mortal Fear/Formula For Death
Talk To Me/The Penthouse
Death in Small Doses/Shattered Trust
Children of the Bride/Mother of the Bride
Ramblin' Man/Iron Cowboy (1968 Burt Reynolds)
Joshua's Heart/Going Home
Countdown: Sky on Fire/Great Los Angeles Quake
Opposites Attract/Baby of the Bride
Nightmare Street/Mind Prey
Our Sons/Fatal Love

Since I got DirecTV I find so many of the Columbia/Tri-Star/Sony titles showing on various movie channels I've pretty much given up buying the three dollar DVDs except for some older classics. Today I *did* pick up four of the Jay Ward animations at $4 each, all "volume 1":

Best of Mr. Peabody & Sherman
Best of Boris & Natasha
Best of Rocky & Bullwinkle
Best of Dudley Do-Right

printerati 03-12-08 11:21 AM

Still no sign of the new $4 titles at any of the stores I've visited in the past week, but I finally found a copy of Planetes: Volume 1 to complete my collection. The shrinkwrap was trashed, but the case and slipcover were fine. Now, if only s-CRY-ed: Anime Legends Volume 1 would show up...

Amen, still hunting for that myself, but only finding Vol. 3's.

After a second sweep of the St. Louis (MO) area Big Lots, some stores got the Sony Pictures classics restock, some got the Sony Easter restock, and a few got a handful of MGM stock. Still no new anime (BOO!). Love the fact I can't find a Vol. 6 of IGPX for the life of me (along with s-CRY-ed 3-volume Anime Legends - Vol. 1, and Dan-Doh - Vol. 3).

Only things I picked up this time around were: Squid & the Whale for my girlfriend (who saw it for like $6 or so at FYE, and I told her it was $3 at Big Lots), and the sequel to "The Crimson Rivers," since the original was intriguing.

No, Bitter Victory is 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen.

basaro 03-12-08 11:53 PM

^Cool, that's what I like to hear. :) Will check again tomorrow and grab it if it's still there.
That means I was thinking of a different title which was FS and not OAR, and I can't remember what it was. Not important anyway I guess.

ericn101 03-13-08 05:07 PM

My Big Lots got the Panic Room / In The Line of Fire $3 Sony shipment today. Also noticed some triple feature dvd's for $1, they all appeared to be 80's movies with big name stars, T.V.movies I assume in a standard keepcase.

C_Fletch 03-13-08 06:34 PM

I was going to pick up In The Line Of Fire but it is the old non-anamorphic disc. Not worth it at $3

creekdipper 03-13-08 08:10 PM

Thanks for the heads-ups on the latest stock. Picked up Panic Room 3-Disc, Zelary, Blue Thunder SE, Sniper 2, End of the Affair (old version), Brother, In the Line of Fire, Flower of My Secret + two more that I can't remember right now. Would have gotten Winged Migration, but it sounded like a bad floater (end-to-end).

I grabbed this today too. I had mistaken this for Cowboy when I mentioned it. Cowboy is FS and it's OAR is 1.85:1, so I passed on it.

I have an extra copy of Dogtown and Z-Boys and Panic Room SE for trade.
