Holy crap, there's still Rose's stores out there? If it's the same thing, that was the "WalMart" for where I live when I was young. So many freakin' memories of that place, especially of playing TMNT: The Arcade Game!

I'm hoping a few more of the titles that DD lists in the Sony sale make their way to Big Lots as there are a few I'd consider in the $2-$3 range.

Can't Hardly Wait
King of Masks, The
Legend of Suriyothai, The
Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing and Charm School
Shampoo
Stand by Me

GenPion 02-03-08 04:44 PM

I have seen Can't Hardly Wait at my Big Lots. A couple of weeks ago, I believe... though I doubt they still have it.

Proglodite 02-03-08 05:21 PM

I picked up a Steve McQueen movie pack at the South Blvd Charlotte store yesterday for $3 (Warner Brothers release). Passed on Very Long Engagement for $4 (already have a copy...bought used for $3). They had a couple of copies of I Married a Monster from Outer Space @ $4.90. --Peter

Thank you. BL is terribly inconsistent by store.

Back in the fall, BL ran a print ad insert in my local newspaper with the Sesame Street DVDs pictured. My store received zip in the way of Sesame Street DVDs. You'd think, "Hey, it's in their ad, we should have some!" Nope, not a single copy.

A BL store 50 miles away (in a slightly larger market) had tons of them.

Could a handful of BL stores picked up some oddball sets of Heroes and Firefly? Yep, I'd believe it.

I appreciate Xage's original post. It's always worth it to go check things out if there could be a good deal.

Although it is weird that he said he bought it in Los Angeles, where a bunch of us regularly shop, but then wouldn't identify which specific store.

It was a poorly thought out prank and I wish he'd have the decency to admit it.

Brent L 02-04-08 10:58 AM

I don't doubt xage, he seems to be "known" around here, but if it was someone who I didn't recognize I'd doubt them simply because in the picture it looks like both Firefly and Heroes are open, unlike all of the others, and it wouldn't be hard to take a couple of the $3 stickers off of something else and slap it on those two sets. Maybe that's just me though, I know it can be hard to tell if something is sealed or not in pictures like this.

hilts 02-04-08 12:11 PM

There's a simple way to clear it up. Xage, please post a picture of Heroes floating in your toilet. :D Thank you.

fashionvictim86 02-04-08 01:31 PM

I was at BL last night looking at DVDs...I think I saw that Firefly one but I didn't think much of it because I haven't heard of it before.....I know I didn't see Heros. I don't watch it, but my boyfriend does, and if we would have seen that for $3 I would have picked it up.

For Twin City Big Lots shoppers....I just completed my 60 mile circuit of the Coon Rapids, Brooklyn Center and Knollwood stores. No new inventory at all. So it wasn't a totally wasted trip, I did pick up "The Beautiful Country" and Bandai's "Planetes vol 6".

Thanks for letting us know. It's much appreciated.

How often do they have coupons? I want to get some more expensive items, so hope there is another coupon soon...

DVDmaniac14 02-06-08 12:39 AM

oh how AWESOME...not only have i already snatched TWO Yu-Gi-Oh Season 1's from the shelves of my Big Lots (which go for $31.50 in-store credit at FYE after 45% more) but i found myself the Memento 2-Disc Special Edition! SAHWEEEEEEEETTTT!!!!!!!!!! i cannot WAIT to sit down and watch this movie again after so long!

basaro 02-06-08 07:10 AM

All the stores around here in NH have not had any new stock in the past 2 weeks, and most of what they had before is gone. Pretty slim pickings right now. The store in Derry is remodeling, so hopefully that will mean a better location soon.

lolitazz 02-06-08 07:35 AM

The Big Lots coupon is usually twice a year, I think next coupon will be October or November. It is always 20%

One of the stores in my area (East Coast) had new DVDs but I think they just brought them from the back room because it was not a lot of DVDs. (Sony's The Passanger, The Order, Closer, SWAT, Bottoms Up, Dean Martin, Stealing Harvard) I will check our main store just in case. But most of us in the East coast have no new stock.

The Yu-Gi-Oh tin boxes sets are really hard to find. Most stores don't bring those. And if they do they don't last more than a week or two. So don't count on finding those very easily. You are probably better off just buying them somewhere else if you don't find them at your local BL

Darn. I should have bought more stuff last week. Oh well...

I hit all 3 of the Milwaukee stores yesterday. I scored 2 copies of Evening Harder 2, but otherwise saw nothing of interest (except 3 copies of Heroes S1, but I passed on those).
;)

;)
(yes, I am kidding about Heroes)

They're not really hard to find at the Big Lots near me. Two of the stores here had stacks and stacks of them for the last several weeks. Maybe I should pick one or two up if the trade-in value is so good on them.
What I want to know is if the Anime Legends 3 Volume Version S-Cry-Ed Vol. 1 has been spotted at Big Lots anywhere. I found volumes 2 & 3, but I haven't seen Vol. 1 at any of the stores near me.

I might have seen it, not sure b/c I have passed on those, I've seen vol 5. I'll keep it in mind and I'll let you know if I see vol 1.

Drahksenzu 02-06-08 04:07 PM

I had to go to 2 or 3 of them but I found Fantastic Children vol's 1-6 and IGPX(Regular) 1-7. Been watching IGPX it's pretty good.

There are two different versions of S-Cry-Ed out there, the ones everyone is looking for is the Anime Legends versions, which are two-disc sets, and a much better value. They contain the same episodes as the Platinum Edition discs (like vol.5 which you've seen), but each set contains two volumes of those original releases. So like this:
Anime Legends Vol.1 contains Vol.1&Vol.2 of the Platinum Edition
Anime Legends Vol.2 contains Vol.3&Vol.4 of the Platinum Edition
Anime Legends Vol.3 contains Vol.5&Vol.6 of the Platinum Edition

I don't think Vol.1 has been found at Big Lots yet, I think there are a few people still looking for it.
