You don't know whether the other stores didn't get any of these or if they were cleaned out before Christmas. Anyway, don't give up if at first you don't succeed.
Some other titles I saw but didn't buy: Titus (2 disc) - Anthony Hopkins. Only 1 store had this. I bought this one years ago. http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/16116.jpg Exorcist: The Beginning - $5.00. Saw this at 2 of the 12 stores I went to. http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/649807.jpg Hanky Panky (Gene Wilder & Gilda Radner). I saw this at several stores. I may get it later. http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/443610.jpg The White Countess - $7.99. http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/1047732.jpg The Kid Stays In The Picture - $4.99. Most stores had this one. I really wanted this one but $5 was more than I wanted to pay for it. Plus, it's in a snapper and most of them were beat up pretty bad. http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/533497.jpg Hostage - $5.00. Only one store had this. http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/680849.jpg |
I also saw these titles for $2:

picked up: Hard Eight - $4.99 Fat City - $3 $2 - Le Dernier Combat, The Secret Lives of Dentists, Me Without You, Bonjour Tristesse, World Traveler, The Loves of Carmen, The Mother, The Lady and the Duke. and some titles not mentioned yet: Bad Lieutenant (NC-17) - $4.99 http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/3127.jpg Fingers - $4.99 http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/443655.jpg Myra Breckinridge - $4.99 http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/580821.jpg Jackpot - $3 http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/41356.jpg I looked for Spider and Sunshine State but couldn't find either. |
Just when you think you've found them all...somebody comes along & posts another batch! Now I have to stop next week when I'll be traveling to a large city in our state that has several Big Lots.
Seriously, Perkinsun & others who update the posts...I (and undoubtedly everyone interested in these bargains) appreciate the info. These look like a lot of the Columbia titles that have been on sale recently at DDD & other places for around $6...but there are some really good movies here, especially the foreign fare. Dark Blue World is a great WWII aviator movie, for example. The Lady & the Duke is an interesting Eric Roehmer film...most of the outdoor sets of French Revolution-era Paris are computer-generated, making it look as though the actors are in the middle of a Romantic painting (unsettling effect). Time & Tide is fantastic Tsu Hark action film. Too many other good titles to comment on. In case no one else mentioned these, I also found CYBORG OO9 (anime) & JAPANESE STORY (w/ Toni Collette). |
I'd given up on finding At Last the 1948 Show, but stopped in on a whim last night. Found two copies. It's always when you quit looking. LOL.
Anyway, I also picked up: Le Dernier Combat The Loves of Carmen Camouflage (strike one: Fullscreen. strike two: Blind Buy. Vanessa Angel...okay, I'll take a shot.) 1st & Ten the Complete Series (someone mentioned this isn't the original version as presented on HBO, which it doesn't look like it is but it does state "Contains some nudity and adult situations". When/where was it ever aired other than HBO?) |

Finally went last night & picked up:
Mission Kashmir (which I just realized is missing from the list above...) Read My Lips Secret Ballot Pauline & Paulette Snake in the Eagle's Shadow Va Savoir Luzhin Defence & left behind: Bon Voyage (2003) Code (a.k.a. La Mentale) Haiku Tunnel Mystic Masseur Pact Of Silence Raising Victor Vargas Solomon And Gaenor Son Of The Bride Soul Assassin Subway & a Jackie Chan cartoon All were $2 They also had several Spanish language titles & a whole row of 1st & Ten. |
Haiku Tunnel is great. What state are you in Lokimok ?
|
here's some of the more notable titles i've seen (all between $3-$5 dollars)
The Animatrix Matrix Revolution Brokeback Mountain (not notable for me but i know it would be for alot of others) Matchstick Men Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban Maid in Manhattan |
In addition to titles mentioned in the previous posts, I saw these at our Big Lots:
Titles For $2.00 (Hearst Entertainment/Starlight): Lip Service (aka "Out Of Sync") (2000 - Kari Wuhrer, Gail O'Grady) The Truth About Jane [2000 - Ellen Muth (From "Dead Like Me"), Stockard Channing] Titles For $3.00 (Columbia TriStar/Sony): Divorce American Style (1967 - Dick Van Dyke, Debbie Reynolds) Fire Down Below (1957 - Robert Mitchum, Jack Lemmon, Rita Hayworth) The Gene Krupa Story (1959 - Sal Mineo, Susan Oliver, Yvonne Craig) Hellcats Of The Navy (1957 - Ronald Reagan, Nancy Davis) The Marrying Kind (1952- Aldo Ray, Judy Holliday) Music In My Heart (1940 - Tony Martin, Rita Hayworth) Ruby (1992 - Danny Aiello, Sherilyn Fenn) Anamorphic Widescreen There's A Girl In My Soup (1970 - Peter Sellers, Goldie Hawn) For $4.99 (Columbia TriStar): Mercy - Extended International Version (2000 - Ellen Barkin, Peta Wilson) Unfortunately, the only copy of Mercy I saw at Big Lots was the single-sided 2004 Full Screen-only reissue. There had been a previous release in 2000 which had both the US edit and the Extended International Version in Anamorphic Widescreen on a double-sided flipper disc. This was one of several films such as The Deep, Sheena, and Bite The Bullet, which Columbia reissued in 2004 in Full Screen-only after having previously issued them in widescreen/full screen flipper versions - a practice which never made a lick of sense to me. |

Some of these like Haiku Tunnel, Secret Ballot, & others seem to be on either IFC or Sundance fairly regularly, but I always miss them - partly because my digital cable leaves a lot to be desired. |
Went to a BL that usually carries alot of dvds but they only had the same old junk titles and nothing "new"...
I'll try a different one today... |
Stopped by this morning and found:
Le Dernier Combat $2.00 World Traveler $2.00 The Secret Lives of Dentists $2.00 Jackpot $3.00 The Right Temptation $4.99 |

I was able to pick up : Twin Falls Idaho Tiptoes ( Oldman, McConaghey, Beckinsale, and P. Arquette ) Raising Victor Vargas My Wife Is An Actress Haiku Tunnel All for $2 each. Thanks to everyone for posting about the selection. |
The available titles on dvd seem to vary at each store. There are not that many on dvd. I went to several of them today and they had different titles. One had George Stevens A Filmmakers Journey on dvd, while the other two didn't. One only had 1st and 10 complete season dvd. I couldn't really find some of the titles mentioned earlier on dvd. I was looking for The Horsemen because I was curious to see it. I did pick up the George Stevens Journey dvd though.
|
Have been to 3 over the past few days. Did not see most of the titles listed, but found a copy of Nina Takes a Lover for $3.
|

Autolycus, or anyone else, willing to pick up a copy of Lip Service for me? I can pay with PayPal and am willing to look for other titles at my local (3) Big Lots if you have something in mind. Thanks.
|
Anyone that purchased Pauline & Paulette or Son of the Bride, if you've opened it, or can, can you confirm that they both are anamorphic?
Thank you kindly. |

Nice find... |
No new titles to post but some encouragement. A week ago visited several Big Lots but only one had a number of titles. Yesterday revisited the closest one on the way back from post office...and found that they had totally restocked. Found 11 titles that weren't at the other stores last week.
The moral is...keep checking back. They do restock and you might get lucky. |
I found Iron Monkey 2 from the Tai Seng label and bought it for $5. Then when I got home I noticed that it was the dubbed english version. I totally missed that in the store. Then I noticed there were terrible reviews on it, saying it wasn't even related to the first Iron Monkey (which I liked) and quality was very poor. Luckily, I didn't open and will be returning it.
|
I was near my Big Lots this morning (northeastern Missouri) and they had just restocked. I saw many of the titles already mentioned here and that weren't out just a couple of days ago.
I think my best find was: Happy Times (Zhang Yimou) for $2.00 I also picked up: I Capture the Castle $2.00 The Horsemen $3.00 Going in Style $3.00 Others I remember seeing that I don't think have been mentioned are: December $2.00 The 5th Musketeer 3.00 and the following were $4.99: Blade Runner Frantic Oh God! Oh God!, You Devil A Very Long Engagement The Imposters I'm sure there were more but those are what I can remember. Happy hunting. |

"Angels Over Broadway" $3
"Mr. Sardonicus" $2 Really crappy selection at the St. Louis Park (Twin Cities) store, as usual. |
The Western Hills store in Cincinnati had about eight copies of 1st and Ten for $6, but nothing else of note. A decent selection at the Colerain Avenue store, however, although there wasn't more than a single copy of most films.
I picked up these for $2 each: - Broken Wings - Dark Blue World - The Luhzin Defence - Raising Victor Vargas I left behind (for now): - Adam Had Four Sons - Angels Over Broadway - Blade Runner (original release) - Bon Voyage - Bonjour Tristesse - Code - Dancer, Texas (already own) - Destination Tokyo - Divorce American Style - Eat A Bowl Of Tea - The Evil That Men Do - Fingers - The Gene Krupa Story - Haiku Tunnel (not a fan) - Hanky Panky - Kept - The Kid Stays In The Picture - The Late Show - LOTR: The Two Towers (original release) - Mambo Italiano - Manny and Lo - Me Myself I - Me Without You - Me You Them - Mission Kashmir - Mr. Sardonicus - Oh, God! Book II - Mystic Masseur - Pact of Silence - Pauline and Paulette - Peep Show - Pirahna II - Postcards From The Edge - Read My Lips - Ruby - The Sea Is Watching - Secret Ballot - The Secret Lives Of Dentists - Sin City (Mickey Rourke cover, UPC/case damaged) - Slugger's Wife - Snake In The Eagle's Shadow - Solomon And Gaenor - Son Of The Bride - Subway - Tiptoes - Trixie - Twin Falls Idaho - Va Savoir - Vanya On 42nd Street - A Very Long Engagement (already own, UPC/case damaged) - We're No Angels All of the above are between $2 and $4.99. There was another Rita Hayworth film I can't remember. I'm still looking for Tube, Beijing Bicycle, Le Dernier Combat, and Monsieur Ibrahim. |

Pasadena City College Flea Market & Record Swap 1570 E Colorado Blvd (Colorado & Bonnie), Pasadena, CA (626)585-7906 I actually picked up a Milli Vanilli record there. When I got home I showed it to my brother, and he said look it's signed. Sure enough, it was signed by Rob & Fab. I liked MV.....so what !! ;) |

Anybody wanna comment on Peep Show? It looks interesting, but at only 9 minutes long it seems a little steep even for 2 bucks. Is there anything else on the disc besides the short?
I bought waaaay too many of the other titles; I'm gonna have to put in more shelves and who knows when I'll have time to actually watch them! |

We're heading out to our local BL this afternoon. Hope I find some of these discs - I never seem to see anything there ( well, DVD-wise. We always find all kinds of stuff there. ) . I'll report if I score.
