For under $14 I'd pick 'em up. I'm keeping the SE set too. That BB tin is nice, but not worth the extra $$$. Now Paul Champgane needs to make a Episode I-VI box (which I'm sure exists, just haven't checked on it awhile)

Knives 09-10-06 04:43 AM

i only rebuy them on hd-dvd. LOL!

lordwow 09-10-06 05:33 AM

I'll probably pass on these... at least until the DDD sale or some other ridiculous sale. I won't have these for more than $10/piece.

josepotato 09-10-06 10:15 AM

I was going to wait for DDD's sale too but I just looked at their site now and the current price is $25.82 each!

On Sunday looking at the ads and on the net -
Circuit City is the winner at $14.99.
Best Buy is $16.99
Target is $17.87
WalMart is $19.96

maybe the Walmart will change on sales day, I don't know, I don't shop there enough to do their practices, but please someone post it they do change it.

Without the limited edition tin, CC looks to be the best best, and they DO have the lithographs, even though they will probably be pretty cheezy...

All TWEC stores should have them for $12.99 AR each. I preordered from fye.com several months ago when they had a 10% off and free shipping coupon which comes out to $12.02 each. Not too shabby. I'll still be getting the tin from BB and possibly the ones with the comics at WM and just auction off the DVDs or possibly return them to WM for store credit.

kms_md 09-10-06 12:33 PM

best buy tin.

GorillaX 09-10-06 01:58 PM

there's no disc art on the original versions? I'm looking at the CC ad, it shows 2 discs, one of them is just plain with no artwork on it

I'm sure they have disc art. As for myself, Netflix it is. I refuse to pay money for Star Wars again until the 30th anniversay edition comes out next year. Maybe I'll even wait for the high-def versions...

TruBuffyFan 09-10-06 02:34 PM

Just to let everyone know, the tin at Best Buy is not as nice and you might suspect. It looks exactly like those tins you get for 12.99 at BB that have movies on Airplanes and such... To me it felt kinda cheap and thin and would look odd sitting in a collection do to its odd size...

The Escapist 09-10-06 04:49 PM

Totally indifferent to these -- Lucas already has enough of my money.

Could you be a little more descriptive? What $12.99 tins are you talking about? Are the star wars dvds in thier own respective dvd cases inside of the tin?

Heat 09-10-06 09:34 PM

I'm sure that a nice 6-movie set will be coming out in the near future, probably in '07 to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the first (fourth) movie.

I'll be waiting for that one.

You did? Can you confirm if there is ANYTHING inside it, or just a tin with the DVD's?

They have artwork, which someone has uploaded to the link below. The Jedi disc looks cool, but it's odd to see the films labeled as a "Bonus Disc", when they're the only reason anyone is buying.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I have seen those tins you are referring to, but have never bought one because they seem too clunky. It would be nice to be able to buy this as a set, but to pay an extra $15-20 seems pointless.

It's also worth noting that most of the film collections packaged in those generic tins can usually be found in cardboard packaging for around $6.99. So why such a huge markup for the SW tin?

That's what they say on some of the commericals, too. The whole "bonus disc" thing is why I have serious doubts that we will get the original versions in the 30th anniversary package.

Furthermore, I'm thinking the original versions are being marketed this way so that Lucas can have his cake and eat it, too. If sales suck, he can claim that he was right and no one was interested in the originals except a few vocal fans. And if sales are great, he can tell himself that people were buying these sets for his glorious re-imagined versions and not the tacked-on extras.

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised to see an interview down the road where someone says, "...well, we put the original films out, but they didn't sell as well as the SE's."

I would assume so thought I could not open one to find out. If they are in their, they are packed in! Umm if you go to Best Buy they have Railroad DVDs, Westerns, and others in Tins... They have a sign that says "tins 12.99"... They are about the size of Band Of Brothers, but the Artworks is way lacking and is made from very thin metal... Hope that helps... I mean for the same price sure get the tin, but dont go venture out just to get it...

DarthScooby 09-11-06 03:10 PM

Well it looks like preordering the tin at 89.99 did me good...For some reason when they shipped it they knocked it down to 52.99. This comes out to be 17.66 each. I know they are selling the individual double discs for 16.99 so it only cost me $2.01 extra for the tn.

1 Star Wars Set W/Tin-DVD-Star Wars Set W/Tin SKU: 7970715 $52.99

I checked the tin listing and it is still showing it at 59.99 so I don't know if they will knock it down on release day tomorrow or this is just a nice perk for those of us that preordered it at the crazy 89.99 price.

Whatever happened I'm even happier now that I only paid 2 bucks for the nice tin set.

Big Worms 09-11-06 03:20 PM

If I was to buy, it would be the BB tin. I assume it is like the Band of Brothers tin which I like alot.

But I am happy with the SE versions, so I will just hold out for the HD-DVD version.

wildman1037 09-11-06 03:37 PM

I am also holding out. No double-dip for me on this one...

Bob330i 09-11-06 05:18 PM

pass. It's all been said already....:horse:

Anubis2005X, when you get the Star Wars Original Theatrical Version DVDs from Netflix, please post in this thread if you got Widescreen versions of all of them. In an earlier post I mentioned that Netflix also lists Full Screen on 2 out of 3 of these.

Interestingly, I had all 3 at the top of my queue (after The Wild) and my next batch of discs shipped today. They shipped The Wild, but for some reason skipped over sending me any of the Star Wars DVDs and sent old catalog titles. Did they skip over Star Wars for anyone else?

Spiderbite 09-12-06 09:35 AM

Looks like Circuit City is going to have the best price on these. All the Wal-marts in my area are stating $19.86 each and they won't price match unless the price in in the ad (and all the other ads just state "Low Price"). They also advised that they cannot price match by calling Circuit City or any other stores.
