I saw a few of the old sets at Best Buy they other day. They were still marked $98.99 or some shit but I had them do a price check and they did ring up at the correct $41.99 price.

Which seasons are you missing? I just saw some in a local store for 19.95. They're trying to get rid of them. I could get them for you.

I always get excited when a big X-Files sales Occurs, hoping that the company knows something we don't about a huge boxset that will drop soon.

I don't think this will be part of price drop. I haven't seen it on any future price drop lists.

How long does this sale last? And can you still order if its on back order, like Deep Discount?

What extras were removed when they went to the new packaging? I'd love to reduce the space my collection takes up by buying the smaller sets, but as a special features junkie I don't want to lose out on the stuff I like (commentary tracks, documentaries, etc).

IMHO, it was rather cheap of Fox to chop out the bonus DVDs rather than charge a tiny bit more to keep them. My local Fry's ad had all 9 seasons in the new packaging for $19.99, and I had the ad with me when I was at Best Buy on Friday where Best Buy surprisingly had all 9 seasons in stock in the new packaging. I looked at them and thought about getting them all at Best Buy for $180 pricematch, but I decided to pass again not because of the $180 but because they removed the bonus DVDs and moreover because I've been disappointed by too many X-Files episodes. I've only watched up to season 6, and there have been a few really great ones in the series, but the majority of the episodes are disappointments. If it weren't for the fact that I like the 2 main characters, I'd have trouble making it through many episodes. I'm afraid they're gonna have to be closer to $10 each before I bite, and that price is unlikely. This is probably as cheap as they are going to go until HD/BR takes over. However, given that several 3rd Rock from the Sun and all Three's Company seasons (after I foolishly paid about $18 for most of them) can be had for under $10 at DDD now, $10 each is not impossible. Just my 2 cents.

I have never had problems ordering from either amazon.com or deepdiscountdvd.com....
