But you're right in that the newer titles are coming in with higher price tags. Probably someone in accounting noted DVDs flying out the door and figured they were pricing them too low.

Picked up a copy of 'Voltron: Collection One' (w/o tin) for, I believe, $6.99. It's a 3xDVD set but does not include the Limited Edition tin.

Picked up
Tsunami: The Aftermath (HBO Miniseries)
Empire Falls (HBO Miniseries)
The Mind Of The Married Man S1 (HBO)
All three for $16.97.
I was very surprised to see MOMM. Been wanting to get it for a while now. Too bad it's 4:3, but for $5.99 oh well.
It does seem as if prices have increased a few bucks just for regular DVDs.

I actually did a thorough aisle by aisle search and I didn't see it. I was surprised how large the store was and wondered what was the appeal to the many other customers as the place was less glamorous than jc penney's.

I went to my first Ross yesterday since I moved out here and there were no DVDs sold there. Maybe I need to go to one farther away from me or maybe they just sold out.
On a side note I didn't know what to expect when I went into the building. It reminded me of the AJ Wright we used to have in Michigan but cleaner. I don't usually like sifting through shirts and capris only organized by size but I liked it.

A bit off the DVD topic, but some of the Ross stores in the L.A. area have some pretty good Shout Factory CD sets -- I've seen a '70s one, a funk-and-soul collection, and a movie-music one -- for $9.99 each. Not a bad deal.

Thanks for the updates folks. You inspired me to return to the scene of the crime and restock the library. I noted in our SF Bay Area Ross stores, that quite a few of the DVDs were Canadian vintage with the Canadian Flag on the spine and the film synopsis in French as well as English on the cover. Here's what I picked up tonight:
For $3.99
Beyond the Golden Compass (The magic of Philip Pullman)
Buster Keaton 4 Films (Steam Boat Bill Jr, College, The General,The Misadventures of Buster Keaton)
Some Girl
$4.99
Good Guys Wear Black
Vertical Limit (Special Edition)
Ground Hog Day/Ghost Busters/Stripes Triple Pack
The History Channel presents Last Stand of the 300 (Thermopylae Battle)
$5.99
New Line Platinum Series Edition of Seven
Angelina Ballerina Dance of Friendship
Batman and Mr. Freeze in Subzero (Animated Batman Film)
The Adventures of Batman & Robin Double Feature Poison Ivy & Penguin (Animated)
$6.99
Animated Wink Club Triple Pack (Love in Bloom, It feels like Magix, Miss Magix)
Sesame Street Zoe's Dance Moves
Miami Vice Unrated Director's Edition
Breach
Smokin' Aces
$7.99
The Good Shepherd
$8.99
The Barbra Streisand Collection (The Mirror Has Two Faces / The Prince of Tides / The Way We Were) (1991)
I know this sounds ironic after picking up a cool hundred bucks worth of DVDs, but the higher price levels ( anything higher than 3.99) is starting to get to be a real turn off for me. With BB and CC routinely dumping stock at around $3.99 and $4.99, I expect better from Ross and Big Lots. My scavenging at Ross has decreased substantially from weekly to monthly as the prices have gone up, and now approaches once a quarter. This is a loss for Ross, since I also shop for toys and books once I'm in the store. So a big booooo, for the higher priced DVDs, and I predict they will soon stop flying out the door as folks realize they can be price matched elsewhere, and the DVD's will cease to be a draw for Ross.
I've also noticed they have moved the displays in a lot of the stores I used to frequent from near the cash register to the men's accessory department. I like that, since the racks are less picked over now that the cash register line doesn't snake by the DVD rack, resulting in a lot of impromptu purchases, but from Ross's point of view, I predict that will also result in a decrease in DVD sales for them.
Keep up the good work, and I'll still stay posted on what to look for when I make my now quarterly to semi annual trips to Ross.

Yeah, the Ross near me moved the rack to the men's department too.
Last visit was the first time I noticed anything of significance at the $3.99 price point w/ the two most interesting being:
Six Degrees of Separation (never did see that one)
Coffee and Cigarettes
They also had restocked some of the HBO titles at $4.99, namely:
Tsunami
Mind of a Married Man
Angels in America
And I hear you on the pricing. It used to be $5 was a done deal for me, but now I find myself hesitating knowing that if I just wait a little longer I'll get them for $3.99 somewhere.
Look out for the Black Friday deals this year which will no doubt be at $2.99 (getting a preview of this over Labor Day at CC which has a few $2.99 titles).

I think I actually like the fact that one of the local Ross stores buried their DVD/CD rack over in the men's department. I finally found a Narnia for $12.99 and they had quite a few other cool things that I passed on. Barbara Streisand set, Angels in America, World War II heroes set, TMNT, K-9 set, LOTR deluxe, etc.
Nothing that hasn't been reported already but compared to the other local store where the rack is by the registers, there's a lot to choose from. Never did see Voltron though. Going back a ways, missed out on the Flinstones seasons that were showing up too.
