wish they would put the box sets on sale again...charlie chan, woody allen, charles bronson...

tonyjg 08-08-06 09:23 PM

Not wishing to be 'too critical' here ... BUT ... DDD needs to get someone in and help them 're-design' their layouts for this promotion.

71 pages is FAR too much to be 'clicking' through to find 'sale' items.

(you almost need a note pad beside you to write down the titles of interest !!)

anyway.... let me have a look at whats on 'sale' .............

They used to use a form that showed 50 per page and you just checked the ones you wanted ad clicked the add to cart button at the end. I don't know why they stopped using that format.

Josh-da-man 08-08-06 09:36 PM

Jesus, I know.

Those pages are a royal pain in the ass to navigate. They need an option where they just a bunch of titles on a single page (maybe 50-100) without graphics.

Spez 08-08-06 09:39 PM

After going through the complete list, I narrowed it down to three titles I wanted right away.

The Terminator
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka
Killer Klowns From Outer Space

I may go back in a week or so for another order after I get paid again. We'll see.

Heh, I DO have NOTEPAD open as I navigate through that poorly designed layout.

Paul Arnette 08-08-06 09:56 PM

Not only is it a pain in the ass to navigate, but who in the hell sorts by 'the' when sorting alphabetically...

Anyway, I picked up Best Years of Our Lives, The and Killing, The -wink-

I may go back and pick up a Pam Grier blackspolitation movie later. Any opinions on which one was her best?

kingtopher 08-08-06 10:30 PM

Is the Take the Money and Run DVD really fullscreen only? Seems strange that MGM would do that for only one of Woody Allen's movies (and strange that he'd let them). Is it P&S or open matte?

I agree that they need more titles per page, but browsing with Firefox does make it easier -- just open every title that interests you in a new tab.

PATHS OF GLORY $ 6.98 1 $ 6.98
SMILE $ 6.98 1 $ 6.98
THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE $ 6.98 1 $ 6.98
CRIME OF PASSION $ 6.98 1 $ 6.98
FOOL FOR LOVE $ 6.98 1 $ 6.98
MISSISSIPPI BURNING $ 6.98 1 $ 6.98

Picked up Smile on recommendation from here. Might snag Little Foxes, Buffalo Bill & The Indians, 12 Angry Men, and Thief later. I'm a big Altman fan, but have heard mixed things about Buffalo Bill.

I would strongly advise that anyone who does not own The Killing should grab it during this sale, it's one of Kubrick's best. Ghost World is also worth a seven dollar investment.

yeldarb367 08-08-06 11:07 PM

Without looking through the list, and just looking at my wish list, I'm considering these. I've added some commentary as to why I might get them.

THE TERMINATOR - I probably should have this by now
BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ - Definitely getting this
NO MAN'S LAND - I remember this being really good
PATHS OF GLORY - Kubrick
THIEF - Michael Mann
THE KILLING - Kubrick
THE GRADUATE - Is there a new edition coming out soon, or is this it?
TOUCHING THE VOID - I'd like to show this to others
ROCKY - Same as The Terminator

And to add to my Denzel collection:
THE MIGHTY QUINN
FOR QUEEN & COUNTRY
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Feel free to comment on my comments. Also, which of these movies with Denzel is the best?

Holy freaking crap cupon. Please tell us there was a quick and easy method to share that with everyone.

Should have gave you a referral link for that. ;)

That said, a lot of these titles should and likely will be under $5 at some point.

yeldarb367 08-09-06 12:35 AM

Which Midnite Movies would you all suggest?

Sean O'Hara 08-09-06 12:40 AM

A couple people have mentioned The Killing and Paths of Glory, but there's a third Kubrick film included in the sale: The Killer's Kiss. Anyone seen it? Is it worth getting for anything other than completism?

And a second question -- I want to take this opportunity to grab the Corman/Price Poe adaptations, and I want to make sure I have all of them before I place my order. Is this the complete set:

Masque of the Red Death/The Premature Burial
The Comedy of Terrors/The Raven
The Tomb of Ligeia/An Evening of Edgar Allen Poe
The Fall of the House Usher/The Pit and the Pendulum
The Haunted Palace/The Tower of London

(I know neither the Haunted Palace nor The Tower of London are actually based on Poe tales, but the first one is credited to a Poe story)

There is, of course. Never that quick or easy, but still.

I was gonna do it too as soon as I saw there were that many, but by the time I noticed the thread it was too late (well done cupon).

Basically it goes like this:

* Notice the URLs for the pages
* write a tiny script (3 lines or so) that downloads them all
* write a script that goes over all of them, extracts the title + link data, and prints the result (probably into a file) as BBCode.
* post the result.

Again, not to detract from the prowess and all-round-niceness of the guy who actually went ahead and did it, but there's no voodoo involved, just plain, old fashioned text parsing. Since I use Python/Perl to do this kidna stuff, I think it's much easier using these languages... but I'm biased (like everybody).

gotrice487 08-09-06 01:06 AM

cupon: Thanks for listing them all as it was much easier to read here than scroll through all of those pages! :)
