Ya, I've only seen Season 1 (which was a phenomenal buildup to the main storyline), but I find it's a great filler show I like to watch in a marathon when I finish a season of Stargate or ST:TNG. And for $15ish/season... can't beat that!

Are these the only two good ones?

When did the show suddenly take a huge dive in quality? It seemed to me at the time like the writer/s just left the show, and yet new episodes were magically still made.

Has anyone purchased one yet? Can you confirm the amount of DVDs it can hold. And was it worth the purchase(Quality).

I'm thinking of picking up 2 of these, but wanted to confirm before placing an order.

TIA
I think the 425 estimate is more accurate. I have two of these already, and they are very nice. Not cheap looking, but classy. I also ordered one for that great price and this will be my third one. It's a conversation starter when you have people come over, they always ask where they can buy one.
I bought my previous two from racks and stands.com using a 10% coupon and the total for each was $199, so DDD's price of $159 is a nice steal. I asked racks if they could price match and all they could do was $187. So anyway, my point is go for it.

Placed one final order:

LONE WOLF & CUB (6D) $71.98
THE PINKY VIOLENCE COLLECTION $47.92

Tax: $0.00
Shipping Price: $5.95
Order Total: $125.85

Hopefully this one doesn't get sent UPS Ground like my first one. I've emailed DDD about it so I should be safe.

Well, from my personal experience (okay, I'm giving in to posting within these threads again... I can't keep away), UPS is more careless with my packages than USPS. It's like that opening scene in Ace Ventura (obviously an exaggeration), but that's what I think of when I think UPS, and for a reason.

This was discussed in a previous part of the thread...apparently UPS charges the receiver extra $$ when they ship up to Canada. It has to do with customs charges.

I have three of these in the black/oak (all purchased at a much higher price last year-didn't realize DDD sold storage, maybe that's a new item?). The spinners are well made, heavy, and look nice. The highest dvd count per rack we could get was 504 of the standard single cases (18 per row X 7 rows per side X 4 sides), the 600 figure must have invovled just placing as many dvds in the rack as possible without any shelves. The holes for the shelf pins are 1 1/4" apart and go the full length of the sides, except for 6" at the top and bottom, so adjusting shelf height to suit your needs is simple. You'll have extra shelves and pins left over if you are using the rack strictly for dvds. Though each shelf is just deep enough for a standard dvd the end of the shelf is backset about 1/2" from the side so putting a slightly deeper case is not a problem.

To Canada we get Brokerage charges for going through customs. On an order of about $130 US I has to pay about $63 to UPS to cover the Brokerage fees and customs. If it was shipped via USPS I would have had to pay around $30 Customs and handling fees.

Oh, yeah.....I also received my first order earlier today. Everything was in perfect condition. Thanks, DDD!

Btw, I can't believe how big that Apes head is. I absolutely love this thing! It's gotta be one of the best purchases I've ever made. If you have even a fleeting interest in these films, you need this set. ASAP.

Jeez...I can't believe people have to even think about buying it for this price. It's almost the price of a regular DVD. I bought all nine original releases on the days they were released for $135 ($135 x 9 = $1,215). And now you can get all nine seasons for the price of what one of them cost me. Even for an iffy show, that's a no-brainer.

Did anyone receive Coach-Season 1 yet? That limited edition package was awful, and the regular one is two amaray cases. When was the last time a studio used amaray cases for a season release?

From Bacharach's review of Platoon on this site:

The third time this extraordinary film has been brought to DVD, Platoon finally gets the stellar treatment it deserves. Brilliantly directed, beautifully acted, thought-provoking and poignant, and with a slew of extras that actually enhance viewers' appreciation of a modern-day classic film. For all that, Platoon's 20th anniversary edition warrants the DVD Talk Collector Series.
Based on the full review, I'm DEFINITELY going to upgrade Platoon. (I've been reading the DVDTalk reviews for all of the movies in my wishlist. Been a HUGE help. Passed on the Princess Bride re-release as result, for example.)

It can also be a bit of a pain in the ass if you live in an apartment where there is no good place for the UPS guy to leave the package (after you sign the little slip he leaves when you miss him the first time because you're at work).

If you really like this film, it is worth it IMO. I upgraded from the previous single-disc SE and don't regret it. The extras from the previous disc have been carried over, and the 50-odd minutes of "Tour of the Inferno" have been expanded to some two and a quarter hours of docs, some of which deal more with Vietnam and its effects than the film itself. This gives the movie proper context, and the new SE "feels" like a real special edition. (The previous disc seemed a little "light" to me, although welcome).

Haven't checked to see what DDD's price minus 20% would be, but you will get your money's worth, that's for sure.

This year is no exception as I had to call today to get 3 items replaced. I will give cudos to CS they took care of the issue promptly. I know they are swamped but how hard is it to properly package these orders. It would save them $$$ (even if the distributor takes back the discs they still have to foot shipping two ways) and they could pass that savings on to us. Even just adding some air pouches between box sets or a sheet of bubble wrap around the edges, between the rows would help dramitically.
I have to say that I was not dissapointed with my 1st shipment which was deleiverd this week....It was in a box with only "paper" to fill the spaces...but none of the boxes received any damage that I could tell from the shipping...the only thing I could tell really that some of the boxes (GIS SAC1 LE's) was that 2 of the boxes seemed to have "caved in" parts (that were empty space anyways) which seems like it was from having the weight of the other dvds on top of them...once I open them out of the plastic though they are all going in the Tin ....so far I am happy hopefully the Cabinet I ordered doesnt take long BUT it is comming from a 3rd party in CA so hopefuly sometime at the end of next week....My 2nd order of DVDs is due tomorrow so hopefully I will have the same experience......Cant wait untill Nov when I can get my wish list taken care of ....
