New Wal-Mart $5.50 Display

Today Wal-Mart had a big cardboard shelf display by the front doors with 15-20 different DVDs in it for $5.50. I don't remember seeing these titles in their discount bins before. Most of them seemed to be widescreen versions. The ones I remember are:

Back to School (a must-buy at this price)
Roxanne (now Full Screen only, so thumbs down)
Used Cars
Finding Forrester
A Few Good Men

There is a non-anamorphic BACK TO SCHOOL as well as an anamorphic one; are you sure the Wal-Mart stand only offers the former?

How do you tell the difference between the two Back To School versions?

This is the only R1 I have ever seen, and it isn't anamorphic. Would like to know where you have seen an anamorphic one.

Um, in my DVD cabinet. I can't find an image of the new case, and don't own a scanner, but someone made a custom BACK TO THE SCHOOL DVD cover and, though they made a totally new front for it, they are using the exact same back cover as the anamorphic release currently on the market:

You'll notice the reference to the collectible booklet is now gone, but the 16:9 status has been updated in the bottom lefthand corner.

Thanks Filmmaker. Also it has a different UPC. I'll keep a look out for the Anamorphic one.

sigh. as always my store lacks the display. it'll show up in a week no doubt.

If your store has a 'seasonal' display though, Blazing Saddles (30th anniv) has finally dropped to a mere 5.50! Had to get a price override to get it, but it IS a shelf label, so while YMMV, you should be fine.
(standard action movies + westerns otherwise, no other stunning prices, EXCEPT Jeremiah Johnson/How the West Was Won 2 pack at 7.44...but the copies there were ONLY Jeremiah Johnson that I could see...)
This is of course father's day related...I suppose I should throw out a new thread on this. perhaps when I've more energy in the morning.

I wonder if this was the thing I saw still in its big cardboard shipper box a few days ago. Guess I'll have to go back and check.

Along with the others I remember seeing Blue Streak,Trapped, Mo Money, Jackie Chan is the Prisoner, Jules Verne's Mysterious Island. This was at the Supercenter in Conyers, GA.

Where did you see Finding Forrester and those others in your Wal Mart? I went to the one in Warren, MI and didn't find any.

That's because that Wal-Mart sucks!

So, these are $5.50, not $4.88?

Found Back To School (Anamorphic Version). It wasn't in a special bin, but just mixed in with the rest of the $5.50 dump bin. Also saw a copy of Roxanne and A Few Good Men mixed in as well.

To Die For is also in this display. I already got that one when it was in a $7.50 Wal-Mart discount sale two years ago.
