Anybody see "Floating Weeds" or "La Strada"?

yellahoosh 05-17-06 10:06 AM

lucky East Coasters, I always sleep through these sales. I tried to order Salon Kitty 2-Disc and 1984, now they show as unavailable. Oh well.

Randy Miller III 05-17-06 10:08 AM

Put in for a copy of Short Cuts ($11.99), still listed "In Stock".
Hopefully it'll go through...

IamLegend 05-17-06 10:18 AM

Ouch..
thanks to the poster for this I think lol..I spent hour going over the dvds I wanted...put in cart $ 20 shipping plus taxes kinda kills the deal...
but spent so much time on it-went for it anyway..

The Reaper 05-17-06 10:21 AM

Damn, they're going fast. It was at 1,088 titles, now it's 944. The Criterion Quartet was in stock just a bit ago for anyone interested.

n.phelge 05-17-06 10:21 AM

Ah, this brings back memories of when Tower used to always have used stock listed and would periodically dump a ton of titles at once. I haven't been in the habit of checking their site anymore, and by the time I placed my order for the Mondo Cane Collection and Educational Archives lunchbox, they were no longer available.

Concerning their stock listing, it is only updated periodically, so even if your submitted order states that they still have an item, the warehouse may be empty by the time they get around to fulfilling it. For the most part, the discs are in great shape, but I have received some poor quality items over the years - a quick call to 1800ASKTOWER always resulted in either a replacement or a refund.

The Void 05-17-06 10:35 AM

I placed an order for the OOP 1984 for $3.99. There were no Criterions left that I wanted. If I get 1984 for $6.94 shipped, that'll be awsome. Thanks for posting this sale.

alfonsosoriano 05-17-06 10:37 AM

Guys, how'd I do on my Black Hawk Down Deluxe purchase? It was $16 shipped.

Al Padrino 05-17-06 10:37 AM

Man, there's some great bargains like the WWE Ric Flair Anthology and Rocky Anthology.

John Galt 05-17-06 10:45 AM

For those of you familiar with ordering from Tower, do you know at which stage of the order they actually remove the not in stock titles from your order? Mine is currently in "Not Yet Shipped" and they're still showing all my titles on the order.

EDIT: It also appears that they added free 2nd day shipping to my order.

For their last used DVD sale, I ordered about 6 DVD's. Within a day or two, 4 of the 6 DVD's shipped. About 2 weeks later, the other 2 DVD's were canceled from my order for being out of stock.

The Reaper 05-17-06 10:59 AM

Damn, was in the middle of an order with the Rocky Anthology and it sold out before I could finish.

La Strada is my favorite of Fellini's sentimental films. Quite a powerful film with a great performance by Anthony Quinn.

Oh, that was me. Sorry. ;) We'll see if I get it though. I also ordered the Seinfeld Seasons 1 and 2 boxset. And a few more are in consideration.

JackBurton 05-17-06 11:13 AM

In for Short Cuts CC and The Twilight Zone 80's Season 1. Worth a shot.

The Reaper 05-17-06 11:15 AM

Ahh!!! Now you took my Twilight Zone while I was substituting something for the Rocky set!!!!

*faints*

alfonsosoriano 05-17-06 11:29 AM

It's probably a good thing for me they don't offer free shipping, I'd want to order too much.

The Reaper 05-17-06 11:36 AM

Well, I ended up going with the Christopher Lee Collection, Silence Of The Lambs widescreen, Angry Red Planet, Idle Hands, Silent Rage and Forbidden Sins/Human Desires.

*still cursing at myself for being a dumbass and not ordering when I had the chance*

pseudonym 05-17-06 11:39 AM

This is dead for any Criterions, which isn't to say that there still aren't some good deals left, depending on your tastes.

ryuryu2949 05-17-06 12:06 PM

Finished my order at approximately 9:45AM (EST). Picked up:

Slacker (Criterion) - $11.99
Short Cuts (Criterion) - $11.99
Samurai Trilogy Boxset (Criterion) - $22.99
The Yakuza Papers Boxset - $31.49
Jerry Maguire (2 disk) - $3.99
Short Circuit 2 - $3.99

Both Yakuza Papers and Samurai Trilogy are blind buys. Any word on those box sets?

justbarelymovin 05-17-06 12:12 PM

Damn, sorry I missed out on these, but really good find, OP.

John Galt 05-17-06 02:46 PM

Has anyone had any items from their ordered cancelled yet? If so, at which stage did they show up as unavailable?

n.phelge 05-17-06 02:53 PM

Previously, the status of items in an order wouldn't change until something shipped, which likely won't be until at least the next day if you chose standard shipping.

alfonsosoriano 05-17-06 03:07 PM

It said when I was ordering if you ordered before 9 AM Pacific time they would process your order today.

Spez 05-17-06 05:54 PM

The order I placed this morning (8 1/2 Criterion) at about 6:40 AM EST shipped already.
