DDD has some decent $4.99 Titles

http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/studi...ainStudioid=41

29th Street, Near Dark, Off Limits, Soul Man are probably the best ones

spinning plates 05-03-06 08:54 PM

what? no c.h.u.d. on your list?!

NoirFan 05-03-06 08:55 PM

Near Dark is definitley worth it - a memorable genre picture with a extra-laden DVD to boot.

MovieExchange 05-03-06 09:03 PM

Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys, Nick Knight (the movie that was the pilot for the series Forever Knight), and several other good ones in this sale. Gonna give Near Dark a blind buy at that price.

Oh my, the Kentucky Fried Movie is part of this sale! That's probably the best blind buy you'll ever make at that price.

exharrison 05-03-06 09:08 PM

Why is it that they have some sales that use the 50/page form and then they have these others that have only like 10/page? Do they do it with the smaller ones to make it look like they have more on sale?

Perkinsun Dzees 05-03-06 09:15 PM

CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC is a steal at $4.99. It's probably the best musical Bruce Jenner has ever done.

MikeDeN2K 05-03-06 09:19 PM

i hate to only add this to this thread, but for what it's worth:

soul man might be the stupidest film i have seen in my life.

alfonsosoriano 05-03-06 09:39 PM

Dead Heat if you are a big zombie fan. And I mean a big fan who will watch any zombie movie.

alfonsosoriano 05-03-06 09:40 PM

Let me also recommend Inferno if you liked Suspiria and Argento. Granted not as good as Suspiria, but it's alike in ways.

Near Dark 2-disc is a freaking steal!

alfonsosoriano 05-03-06 09:43 PM

If these prices last for a few weeks, I'll be buying so many of them. God damnit DDD. You and your money taking ways!

John Sinnott 05-03-06 10:08 PM

Kentucky Fried Movie is well worth $4.99 too.

Cinemaddiction 05-04-06 12:37 AM

I'd recommend "The Church" for Argento as well. Now if only they'd throw in "Demons" and "Opera", I think I'd be set.

purplechoe 05-04-06 01:10 AM

I recommend "Downtown". I used to watch this movie all the time when it came out. Its a cop comedy in which Anthony Edwards (with hair) plays a new white cop going into a "rough" inner-city precinct with Forest Whitaker as his partner. Joe Pants is in there too.

On the off chance that anyone is a cheese movie fan and planned on getting Elvira, Return of the Killer Tomatoes, Return to Horror High and Sleepaway Camp, remember that you can get all 4 plus Vamp and Transylvania 6-5000 in the Campy Classics Fright Pack for $21.26.

Also, the $4.99 titles The Church, Fear No Evil, To The Devil A Daughter and Antichrist are available in the Devil Made Me Do It Fright Pack along with Hell Night and Curse of the Devil, also priced at $21.96.

Unless you're severely strapped for cash, it's worth the extra couple bucks to get two more movies and the neat box that they come in.

Admiral Ackbar 05-04-06 08:24 AM

Wow, they have C.H.U.D.

And the Stuff and Philadelphia Experiement.

I remember seeing those movies on TV when I was a Kid and there were only 12 channels.

Smithers 05-04-06 08:54 AM

I reccommend Mischief.

Kelly Preston + clothes off = boobies

sracer 05-04-06 09:12 AM

Awesome sale! I already have the ones that I'd be interested in....
Cat O'Nine Tales
C.H.U.D.
Circus of Horrors
Parasite
Sleepaway Camp
Inferno
The Church
Kentucky Fried Movie
The Stuff

But I'm considering:
Transylvania 6-5000

Filmmaker 05-04-06 09:51 AM

I seem to remember enjoying BLACK MOON RISING way back in the '80s but haven't seen it since..even at $4.99, I wish I could rewatch it again to see if it still holds up before buying it...

Manzana 05-04-06 10:29 AM

Are these $4.99 DVDs part of a short term promotion (like the Paramount and Fox sales) or are these the normal price? Since these don't say "sale ends on..." I was thinking maybe these are normal prices.

In other words, when the next 20% off sale hits will these still be $4.99 - 20% or is the price going to jump back up more than 20%?

aeron 05-04-06 11:53 AM

Thanks, OP!

Project X was a childhood favorite of mine...I wonder how it stands up now...For $4.99, I think I'll pick it up!

I think there's a mix in there. For example, adding Neon Maniacs to my cart brings the message:

"This item is a price-drop. It will ship to arrive on or around the scheduled
release date."

However, there are also things there like Ruckus, which was recently announced to be OOP, so that clearly isn't getting a drop. I think there's a mix.

Colleen 05-04-06 12:43 PM

Hmm... The first two movies I looked up on IMDB were in the bottom 100 ratings list... Definitely a lot of 80's camp here...

Paul Arnette 05-04-06 01:57 PM

Damn, my wallet almost escaped this sale unscathed. However, I noticed Dario Argento's The Cat O'Nine Tails, which I do not have yet. The Stuff is tempting in a so-bad-its-good way. I don't remember C.H.U.D. all that fondly, but it has been a long time too.

For Hammer fans, Christopher Lee fans, or those who just want to see a lot of full-frontal Nastassja Kinski nudity, may I recommend To The Devil A Daugther. :hump:

blucadet3 05-04-06 02:17 PM

Drawing Comics the Marvel way should be rad for 4.99

For someone who paid twice as much for it, allow me to say it stands up very well and I have no regrets paying $9.99 for it, so you're doubly safe at $4.99...but remember to bring your hanky when you watch it.

The Void 05-04-06 02:54 PM

Thanks, Near Dark was on my want list. It's a steal at $4.99.

The Argento stuff is tempting but I think I'll pass for now.

SpaceBoy 05-04-06 02:59 PM

Some decent titles on there. Esp. the Sleepaway camp flicks which I already have.

Picked up the following, all blind buys. Figure they're worth a watch, and I'm a sucker for cheesy horror. (I haven't heard of 2 of those)

DDABD012736D CHEERLEADER CAMP 1 $4.99
DDABD013282D PUPPETMASTER VS DEMONIC TOYS 1 $4.99
DDABD011117D KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE 1 $4.99
DDABD011738D RETURN TO HORROR HIGH 1 $4.99

rw2516 05-04-06 05:18 PM

Picked up
ENDLESS NIGHT
INFERNO
SHOCK
If you like classic Hammer check out CIRCUS OF HORRORS. If you've never seen it, ROAD GAMES with Stacy Keach and Jamie Lee Curtis is a pretty good horror film.

I thought it was a steal a few months ago for 11.99.

Ghostface180 05-04-06 11:49 PM

Grabbing Cat O'Nine Tails and Inferno

trebor00 05-05-06 12:28 PM

Looks like Near Dark was a misprint...it's now priced at $10.63

alfonsosoriano 05-05-06 12:32 PM

Damnit...did those who ordered it get it still?

Manzana 05-05-06 12:57 PM

Yesterday I went through the $4.99 titles, and 99% of them I've never heard of, including Near Dark. I put it at the top of my list to check this morning, and if I had known Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, and Jennette Goldstein were in it playing vampires, I would've ordered it last night. Now it's too expensive, so it's hasta la vista baby on this title. Too bad DDD couldn't have waited just another half day before they caught that error (as if I'd know what is or isn't an error). Unfortunately I can't spend all day every day doing nothing but researching DVDs I've never heard of. Things like that have to get saved until the weekend.

I guess all those price drops to $4.99 in another thread about DDD means that Soul Man should remain at $4.99 until the next 20% off sale?

Maybe its the single disc version for 4.99. Yes, there is a single disc version. Overstock had it listed as 2 disc and cheap at the time but sent out 1 disc version.

Mine still shows up in the Order Status at $4.99.

NEAR DARK (2D) PREORDER 1 $4.99 0 ~05/16/06

DDD has a pretty good track record on things like this, so I don't expect a problem. Looking forward to this one--blind buy for me.

tonyc3742 05-05-06 02:00 PM

Near Dark is showing 4.99 for me.

Shouldn't that read Kelly Preston - clothes = boobies ?

Dogg 05-05-06 02:03 PM

I expect the sudden sales increase for Near Dark (as that is what most people here seem to be ordering), motivated DDD to raise the price.
