I called two local WalMarts and while they said they didn't have these in stock yet they did actually knew what I was talking about and said that they would be here starting Tuesday.

The Wal-Mart in Glen Burnie, MD has the box out in the middle of the aisle in front of the electronics dept. It's rather low to the ground and has a small, bent sign with the price - if I hadn't known about this deal from the original poster, I probably would have passed right by it, so thanks for the heads up.

As for what's in it, I went there looking for classic titles and came away with the last copy of Mr. Blandings/Arsenic and Old Lace. Considering I went in with low expectations, I'm very pleased. If your brain doesn't go to mush from filing through the many, many copies of Cinderella Story/Miss Congeniality, you'll also find several Hitchcock 2-packs and Victor/Victoria/Cabaret. Those were the only other classic titles I saw, but I own 3/4 of those so I passed.

In an equally strange set-up, the Wal-Mart in Bowling Green, OH had tons of these 2-packs intermixed with their stand-alone display for Brokeback Mountain. I picked up the last 2-packs they had of the Marx Bros. movies and Dial M for Murder / North By Northwest. I also picked up THX 1138 / Matrix (I already owned Matrix so that will become a gift) and Nightmare on Elm Street / Jason X. I may pick up more as there were many different pairs there - though nothing that I haven't seen already mentioned on this thread.

Thanks to the original poster for the heads up! :) :) :)

What other hitch two packs did you see beside Dial M for Murder and North by Northwest. Thats the only one I saw.

Operator13 04-09-06 06:58 PM

Erreth -

Sorry, by 'several' I meant several copies of Dial M/NBNW. I didn't see any others, either.

trebor00 04-09-06 07:52 PM

I snagged NBNW & Dial M for Murder. They had several snappers, I snagged the last keep case.

I was hoping to find T3/2001, but no luck.

Thanks again to the original poster.

Seeing that my local Walmart probably won't get Goonies/Scooby Doo 2 and Seven/Taking Lives, I tried to order them online. I guess $2.47 each is Walmart's normal steep shipping rate (and why I've never ordered online before).

I was able to find the Goonies/Scooby Doo 2 $7.44 pack online, but not Seven/Taking Lives. Does anyone have a link to it or is it gone/sold out?

Well, as promised, my local WalMart really did get them in today. I picked up:

-A Night at the Opera/A Day at the Races
-North by Northwest/Dial M for Murder

Is Unforgiven the old version?

Hey there - Has anyone seen this display in the Northern, VA area? email [email protected] - thanks!

djsmooth 04-12-06 09:52 AM

Picked up Last Samurai/IWTV last night without having seen this thread. I just found it on top of the 5.50 rack. I now have to go back and look for the full display.

NOTE: I too had difficulty with the very large sticker inside that effectively ruined the IWTV cover art.

Sorry, I was out of town. No, it was the one south of Johnson Creek Boulevard, in the old Home Depot location.

Found ONE Marx Bros. set at Wal Mart in Coon Rapids. It was nice, because already having owned the Silver Screen Collection, Day/Night were the only movies I really wanted to own from the "other" set.

Fantastic deal, $3.72 a disc, roughly.

Manzana 04-13-06 10:41 AM

I only ordered the Goonies/Scooby Doo 2. With shipping it works out to almost $5 each. The only other one I considered was Seven/Taking Lives, but I could not find it no matter how I searched online. I wonder if the Seven/Taking Lives pack really existed?

MScottM 04-13-06 11:17 AM

I picked up several of the classics 2 packs at the WM in Bowie Maryland. Got the Marx Brothers, and High Society/Kiss Me Kate packs and there were several more left. Saw the North By Northwest, Calamity Jane, and several of the others.

I've seen it at a few different wal marts.

Thanks for confirming the Seven/Taking Lives 2-pack exists at certain stores. I guess they just don't have it online (or at my store).

My Walmart's 2-pack selection was rather pathetic. It barely occupied the space of one small endcap. They had nothing I wanted in-store, so I had to resort to online ordering, but I could only order 1 out of the 2 packs I wanted since Seven/Taking Lives doesn't seem to be online.

djsmooth 04-14-06 02:29 AM

Went back today and picked up NXNW & Dial M. Just in case anyone else is in Tucson, here's what was at the Foothills Wal-Mart (in a display at the back facing the TVs):

You are correct. I saw this one too. But, Blood Work was foolscreen and Heartbreak Ridge was w i d e s c r e e n - I really hate when they do this....

woemcats 04-14-06 06:07 PM

Every one of these sets, there was one title I wanted and one I have. I ended up getting Maltese Falcon and Casablanca and giving the latter to my mom, and Grand Hotel/Mutiny on the Bounty (I wanted the former, but the other won best pic, so a good bonus).

I nearly bought Victor/Victoria even though I own Cabaret. Also I was tempted to pick up Interview with the Vampire but didn't want to spend too much and I could hear there was a floater in Last Samurai. Now, of course, I regret not getting it.

Same here. My Walmart get a fresh supply of these 2 packs and there was almost everything on the list at the store... except the only $7.44 pack I bought during this sale which I had to get online (Goonies/Scooby Doo 2). Besides seeing the P&S and Widescreen combos (such as Seven/Taking Lives), I had 1 out of each 2 pack on at least 3/4ths of the packs. If Walmart had not bundled these up (and saved themselves some shrinkwrap) and simply left them as separate titles in a buy 2 for $7.44 promotion, they would've sold a lot of them and I would've bought about a dozen DVDs.

Also, I already had the 2-DVD SEs of Casablanca and Unforgiven. They are good movies, and I think BBY had a special sale on them recently making them around $7.50 each. My opinion is if you can get a good SE for $7.50 to $10 (if you wait for the right sale), why spend $3.72 for the inferior edition unless you don't care about the movie that much? I got almost all of my 2-DVD SEs from CH in B1G1F sales making them about $10 each (no tax).

Cinemaddiction 04-14-06 11:15 PM

Ran across the Hitchcock set, got it for NBNW, going to ditch DMFM since I own it. The Elvis 2-fer looks mighty tempting, but as his older films are being slowly re-released as 2 disc SE's, I'm cautious.

In any event, these sets are a great value, and I can't figure out why they're being unloaded so cheaply.
