Same here.

I made 3 seperate orders(had trouble deciding what to get).

1. Naked Lunch- ordered Sat, got email and it's in order status

2. 3 Films by Louis Malle, Opera(non-criterion)- ordered Sun, no email and not in order status

3. Ran, Ikiru- Ordered a few minutes ago, no email yet

and just as I'm typing this I get an email from my 2nd order...looks like it'll show up, it's just going slow

No, of course not. Last time I checked, they were both the same movies. I buy for the film first, collecting second. Special features generally don't interest me, so I don't put that into the comparison.

When matched up, the 2 discs have the same content (the film) and like I said, I collect Criterion, not AB. So, the CC edition had two points for it (one for the film, one for the edition) while the AB edition just had one point (for the film.)

I don't care that much about it not being anamorphic, or a bit less on the video quality side. I plan on watching the movie, not analyzing the video transfer skills of the people who put the disc together.

Don't worry, I can afford the extra $5. Thanks for your concern, though. See above, the last time I checked, they both had the same content, since I'm not interested in the extras. From your comments, I'd say you don't collect for the content, you collect anamorphic discs. To each their own.

Just wait until you get a 16x9 TV. All of your hard work and perseverance will pay off.

I've had one for over a year. It's a Zenith plasma and it will take an non-anamorphic DVD and stretch the image to fit with very little loss. My DVD player is an Oppo, which will also take a 4:3 image and fit it to the screen, again with little or no loss.

I'm kind of surprised that in a Criterion sale thread, people are putting down Criterion collectors...

dpz301 04-03-06 02:34 PM

picked up Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas and Hoop Dreams. Might get Rushmore too at some point. Also looking for the The Rock. I looked at Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas at BB for a good while now.

Shagrath 04-03-06 02:52 PM

My order shipped today.. I'll get in about 2 weeks, if things go as normal. :)

Actually... When I ordered (several) titles from the $5.98 sale (still ongoing, I believe? since there were Cronenberg fans conversing in this thread... the title "Spider" (Cronenberg film) is included in that sale--just a little fyi if you're interested), they arrived much faster than 2 weeks (which is usually the time it takes for me, too). Maybe these will arrive more quickly, too! :fc:

Jaymole 04-03-06 03:19 PM

My Louis Malle was ordered Saturday, e-mail confirmation came within an hour, and it shipped today. As usual, I have no problem with DDD's service.

No, they don't. but whatever.

Digital Groove 04-03-06 05:33 PM

Wow, the fluctuation on these prices is ridiculous. Some are $2 cheaper than the 20% sale. Some are roughly the same price, others are barely below their regular price of $28.

I suspect these will change later on. We'll see.....

leeta 04-03-06 06:30 PM

Ordered 4/1 and got the shipping notification today. No complaints here,

TheMovieman 04-03-06 06:38 PM

Yeah, I got my shipping notice today as well :)

dhs122 04-03-06 07:14 PM

can anyone compile a list of which have the biggest discount?

Really? So they're two different versions of that movie?

I promise I'm not trying to play thread police here...

Brizz: Renaldow doesn't care about extras.
Renaldow: Brizz was saying that the DVDs aren't the same - not the actual film.

All better.

Any other deals to be found here? I still don't get why DDD doesn't carry "The Rock: Criterion"... ugh!

Calculon 04-03-06 07:55 PM

Thanks OP, finally picked up "Children of Paradise", and for about $5 less than anywhere else I looked.

All the ones up to 3 Women. They're in alphabetical order by biggest discount.

I don't know why they don't carry The Rock, but they also don't carry Nanook of the North, and possibly a few others. It's confusing since DDD is owned by Image, who is the sole distributor of Criterions. So it doesn't make sense that all of their etailers don't stock everything.

DDD is owned by Infinity Resources, Inc.

Are they owned by Image? or are you mistaken? (I've never heard that Image owns DDD before..)

strife 04-03-06 08:47 PM

He's mistaken Image use to own Planet, but they sold them to Infinity Resources Inc.

just put a spine number on a vhs tape and you're all set....same content. You are saying that a dingy non-anamorphic transfer is the same content as a cleaned up anamorphic transfer with a much improved color pallette....it isn't.

but I don't care...you value a spine number over the quality of the film element...I couldn't be happier for you...even though I think you are nuts. that'd be my opinion....enjoy yours.

HistoryProf 04-04-06 12:21 AM

since my birthday is next week....decided on a present to myslef :)

FORBIDDEN GAMES (CRITERION) $ 16.47
NIGHT & FOG (CRITERION) $ 8.22 1
YOUNG TORLESS (CRITERION) $ 17.07

$41.76

not too shabby at all.

uhftv 04-04-06 12:55 AM

The sign on top says sale ends on 4/10 and

also says While Supplies Last. Is this an all-studio price drop or just a regular sale from ddd? Cause usually with an all-studio price drop, once the item reaches out-of-stock status, it shows up in the shopping cart as regular price.

Also I noticed on page 4, Hearts and Minds has a totally different cover art than the one I have (the one with the baby)

Is that a mistake?
