That's the best-case scenario, when all four titles are equally priced.

And since it's Borders, it's more accurately stated as 25% off MSRP

More like 25% over MSRP. I went to Barnes & Noble on Thursday (because I received 25 bucks in gift cards) and their prices for most dvds that cost 19.99 at any other retailer cost 28.99-29.99 in their store. Needless to say I ended up buying nothing. I almost bought The Producers Deluxe Edition but it was on sale for the great price of 24.99+tax. Ridiculous I tell ya.

And not only that, MSRP is 29.99. No stores I know of charge more than MSRP. For example, a 29.99 MSRP will generally sell at most stores for 19.99-24.99.

Different stores with about the same prices on dvds. I would probably say that Borders has slightly better prices on dvds as well. Also, B&N has many of their dvds priced at MSRP.

I was at Borders last week -- their Criterion Collection DVDs all have MSRP sticker prices, except for a few new-release titles which are 25% off MSRP.

FYE stores in NYC actually charge more than MSRP for some items. Some $14.99 MSRP DVDs are tagged at $15.99, and many $49.99 MSRP video games are $52.99.

Also, Virgin MegaStore charges more than list price for many CDs.

I assume these stores can get away with this because of all the tourists and lifestylers.

Two things to remember with Borders deals, however:

1. This might apply to SALE prices. At times, Borders will swing its prices towards competitors (if competitors aren't being aggressive w/ pricing).
2. Borders always has some O.O.P. and Criterions in-stock.

there's a few other box sets for $19.99 too:

Humphrey bogart collection
Elizabeth Taylor collection...

this is honestly the best deal I've ever seen at Border's. My store is apparently a "control store" where the deal is actually buy 2 get 1 free (3 for 2)....I don't know why. so it's well worth checking out whether your store is in on the "test" i assume they are doing. (i'm in Northern Michigan). The bogie box has the crappy casablanca in it, but Big Sleep, Maltese Falcon, and Key Largo for $20 is fine by me, esp. when I can add two more things to get it free.

as to other concerns: it includes sale prices and box sets of all kinds. so you can get 3 seasons 1-3 of sopranos, for instance, and only pay for two. or you can buy 3 new releases that are on sale and the least expensive one is free.

Use that GC with their online B&N entity - I've found that their internet pricing is far more competitive - I've been able to find free or low cost shipping codes as well.

I just got back from Borders and they had some sweet sale items. I picked up Columbo : Season 1 ($30), Wages of Fear : CC 2DVD ($25), Pickpocket : CC ($25), and got Masculin Feminin : CC (had $25 sale pricetag) free. I'm not sure if this is chainwide - so YMMV, but when they scanned the tags (the ones that had the original $35.99 or 39.99 price and bar code) they came up on the computer as $25. Also saw Samurai Rebellion (I think it was that) for $25.

The double deal (Buy 3 get 4th free + $10 coupon) did not fly at the Borders I went to, so YMMV. I'm going to try the other one near me and hope they will take it there.

Also saw "Le Samorai" along with Wages, Masculin Feminin and Samurai Rebellion as one of the $24.99 titles at the Wheaton, IL store. So it's at at least more than 1 store.

They should have taken it, since the fine print in the coupon doesn't mention that promotions are excluded.

This must be the "Christmas Sale" that Criterion mentioned in one of their recent newsletters. Let's all try to find a list of titles included in the sale.

Will Borders take their giftcards online or not because they are teamed up with amazon? Thanks!
