Since the Lady Snowblood box ($29.XX) contains the two Animeigo releases (priced at $17.XX each), would there by any reason to purchase the disks separately? No specs on DDD's website.

That's correct. I have this set. It contains 7 discs in a box:

Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo
Zatoichi the Outlaw
Zatoichi: The Festival of Fire
Zatoichi at Large
Zatoichi In Desperation
Zatoichi's Conspiracy
Zatoichi Meets the One-Armed Swordsman

I think videophile was referring to the Lady Snowblood box.

Yeah, the Lady Snowblood "box" is just both films in the same double disk case, and the Zatoichi and Lone Wolf & Cub boxsets are literally the individual disks placed in the boxes they were giving away for the cost of shipping, only shrink-wrapped.

Thanks for the tip, Geist. But why would anyone buy the two separate Animeigo disks for $34+ when they're both packaged together in the $29+ box?

Cool! Would these prices be better than the 20% sale? I'm thinking that they are...
now only if they had those Criterion samurai boxsets on sale too.

Perhaps because they only want one of the releases? Isn't that the whole point of box sets, to buy a combination of items that would cost more if bought seperately?

Having more of this guy in your DVD collection is always a good thing.

I bought the Zatoichi boxset (backordered) but am still a tad on the fence with the Lone Wolf and Cub (just about the price, not the content).

Re: Zatoichi Box Set

Besides price how does the PQ/SQ of this set compare to other offerings -- for instance from Home Vision? Thanks kuroiinu for itemizing the contents.

I don't think it was much less than that, if at all.

Zatoichi came in by the way, I haven't opened it up yet though.
