Damn, I want that Prisoner set so I can retire my VHS copies I taped off of PBS nearly 20 years ago but it isn't in the budget right now!

emerald9999 11-02-05 10:53 AM

I recommend Foyle's War very highly as well as the House of Cards Trilogy. I have the latter and will probably get Foyle this time around.

I think MI-5 is a TV club enrollment now at CH TV club, so you can get it for around $20 when you figure in the total costs of joining/fulfilling.

Considering another order for Horatio Hornblower and the British War Collection. Just can't pull the tirigger yet.

If you do not have the Office, complete collection, yet...get it! It is fantastic and that is a very good price. The original british version is absolutely brilliant. Definately a great buy.

This might be a good opportunity for people to start pointing friends and relatives towards holiday gift options...

All the Anchor Bay sets I ordered are now stated to ship in 6-9 days, although they were shown to be in stock when I originally ordered. I haven't ordered from amazon in ages - is this normal or are we not likely to get these discs (since they are out-of-print)?

Thanks in advance

illennium 11-02-05 01:50 PM

My order just shipped

Two of mine shipped yesterday and 1 is pending shipping. I'm in love with my Amazon Prime trial (but I'll still likely cheap out when this trial expires).

Many of the items I purchased had the ship in 6-9 days time frame, but almost all of them have shipped already. Amazon tends to give conservative estimates to cover themselves. If this sale is hugely popular, it may take even longer to receive items.

Very tempting, looking at,

The Carry On Collection
Fawlty Towers - TCC
The Office - TCC
Mr. Bean - The Whole Bean

Hmmmm, I noticed that Kubrick's films The Shining and Full Metal Jacket, A Clockwork Orange etc. are listed in the U.K. section.

Someone at Amazon must think he's a Brit.

I can heartily recommend the Peter Sellers Collection. 28 Bucks and fun stuff to boot.

It is true, it is missing scenes. I forget exactly each ones, but when it came out, I ultimately decided to get the Australian set instead because the episodes were indeed uncut.

jeffrey r 11-02-05 05:26 PM

Placed another order for:

• Enemy at the Door - Series 1
• Enemy at the Door - Series 2
• Horatio Hornblower Collector's Edition
• British War Collection

Hopefully that does it for me.

Where is Footballers Wives??

It depends on what you mean by "missing scenes." The programs on the set have the exact same content as when the show originally aired in Britian. They later added some scenes that were originally cut for overseas distribution. These added scenes aren't included.

So basically this release is unedited, and the Australian one is edited. That doesn't mean that one is better than the other, just that this R1 set is original.

I picked up all seven of the Hammer double-features along with "Horror of Frankenstein". There's quite a few box sets I would like to get my hands on, but with that other sale getting closer, a little restraint is in order.

Thanks!

That was never explained to me when this topic first broke out when the set came out. That's interesting info. Then that means the Australian DVD has BONUS SCENES!!!

Seems like you could order them from Amazon along with a pre-order, just to lock in the price.

Where's the thrill in that?

uhftv 11-03-05 01:29 AM

Great price for the Guinness set but I have half of them I bought individually so I should just wait for the Kind Hearts and Coronets release. But the set has one title that isnt available separately, though.

Also noticed Snatch, High Fidelity and Battle of Britain will all be reissued so avoid picking those up.
