I just went to a WalMart and they didn't have these at all.

Maybe it's only at supercenters? I'll have to cruise by one tonight. I really want Fletch.

so, wal-mart picks you up at your house...damn that's service! just kidding, i agree with you. for the most part, once a DVD drops to the $7-$8 range, if i've never seen it, and it interests me, i'm more apt to purchase it, as opposed to renting.

Altimus Prime 10-24-05 02:52 PM

I just called my local WM supercenter and they told me they did have this, but took it down yesterday (Sunday, Oct. 23). Damn it!

Two others didn't have it either. :(

Brent L 10-24-05 02:54 PM

I'm pretty sure they were talking about the Warner Brothers $4.88 display. My local stores had the same thing, and they told me they just removed that. Then they told me the next one will be here either tomorrow, or next week.

Altimus Prime 10-24-05 02:57 PM

Which display would Fletch be in???

Altimus Prime 10-24-05 03:04 PM

I just tried a few more. I've got a lot in my area. All said the display has been pulled. A few of them said that yes Fletch was in it.

Damn, damn, damn! I miss out again a chance to get Fletch! :( I just want to cry.

But I'm not going to pay scalper prices on eBay.

LoPan5705 10-24-05 03:04 PM

Fletch was made by Universal, so it would be in the Universal display.

Brent L 10-24-05 03:09 PM

I'd have to vote for the people you talked to not knowing what the hell they were talking about. That's the usual for the people who work in the electronics department at WalMart. I'd check back either tomorrow, or next week. Actually go in the store, don't call and talk to them.

Why would they already pull this display, when it was JUST put out?

LoPan5705 10-24-05 03:19 PM

Well the Warner Bros. display was just taken away at my Wal-Mart. Usually after 2 weeks Wal-Mart will put up their "special sale" displays, sometimes sooner than that. Their kinda tricky that way. But I hope the Universal display gets here this week, I am eagerly awaiting a few of those titles. And your right Lumkin; it's better to go in the store, those people working in the dept. usually don't know what's in the back or not.

n.phelge 10-24-05 03:44 PM

I stopped by my local store last evening, and they had a Warner display, but one compartment had copies of 1941 inside (that was the only Universal title I saw).

same here all the titles were 7.50+ or more except the one universal title(1941) which was 4.88

DarthPrime 10-24-05 04:31 PM

I hope this display gets to my local Wal-Marts soon. I would really like to get Fletch for that price.

island007 10-24-05 06:45 PM

I picked up
Fletch
Duel
Jaws 2
Spy Game
Skulls 2

This was a large display.

Snowmaker 10-24-05 06:49 PM

Still was not one at mine this evening. :(

I've got at least five WalMarts near me, and driving to all of them could wind up being a big waste of gas.

I just called my nearest supercenter again, and simply asked if they had Fletch on DVD. I was told it was on that $4.88 display, which was taken down last night after having been up for about two weeks. He said they were surprised, because they thought it would be there until the end of the month.

Another supercenter a bit farther away - about 26 miles - also said they took down this display last weekend.

I am so sad. :(

Same here!

My store was doing re-stock of dvds and games...no displays. Just more copies of Waterworld for the bin.

Brent L 10-24-05 10:26 PM

Lord knows the world needs more copies of Waterworld. ;)

Wasn't even the DTS version! :(

I picked up Necessary Roughness anyway. :)

DiscGuy 10-24-05 11:44 PM

I was in the Kennesaw, GA (North of Atlanta) this afternoon and spoke to the electronics department manager. He said the Universal $4.88 display would be put out tomorrow -- Tuesday. We talked about Fletch and he said it was one of the titles in the offering.

We shall see!

Manzana 10-25-05 12:09 AM

Fletch wasn't at my Walmart in the $5.50 bin or the $4.88 Universal display. I already have it so I really didn't care that much. I assume the reason so many are interested in it is that it's OOP and may still go for $40 on eBay (I haven't checked recently). If I didn't hate eBay so much, I'd try to sell my Fletch if I could get $40 because I'm sure a SE is not too far in the future (studios seem to be re-releasing just about everything else at least once).

I got mad when I only saw a "Full Frame" version of Duel, but I bought it anyway, and after a really quick review check I guess it was filmed in Academy Aperture so there is no widescreen version. In the old days I used to be careful about what I bought, but now I operate under "buy first, ask questions later" philosophy which is my way of saying when in doubt I buy something and then I research it and return it later (unopened) if I decide I don't want it. I've passed on cheap stuff too many times in the past only to find it gone when I decided I wanted it. Walmart tells me they give 90 days to return unopened DVDs (not that long ago they used to tell me it was 30 days), so that's plenty of time to decide.

I've managed to wander aimlessly throughout several Wal-Marts in the Charlotte NC area over the past few days (including Gastonia, Rock Hill, and Lancaster) and have seen no sign of the Universal 4.88 rack/bin/display. I'm sick of Wal-Mart right now, so if any local folks see that the situation has changed, PLEASE post notice of the good news here.

Tank ewe veddy mooch.

Bill Geiger 10-25-05 03:57 AM

I went to Wal-Mart just a few minutes ago and my store had 10 or so. I bought a few...and hid the some others just in case I need to hook someone up here at dvdtalk.

Was Necessary Roughness in the 5.50 bin or the 4.88 one? I haven't seen it in either of my WMs.
