(DEAD) Deep Discount is setting up another B2G1F sale it seems

Hit DDD's page to see if any new deals were starting this week, as it seems that they've been running more sales than usual. Found a link to a B2G1F sale, but it's currently a dead link.

The titles I recognize in the picture are:

Signs
The Rookie
The Rock
Shakespeare in Love
Swingers

Interesting that that's the first image for me on the page, and it doesn't work yet.

Anyone notice anything noteworthy?

Looking at the first few pages I don't see much that I would want but I see a lot of stuff that kids would like, especially the Disney Classic Cartoon Favorites, the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" series, etc.

digitalfreaknyc 10-10-05 10:15 AM

Too bad so many of them are non-anamorphic.

bloopbleep 10-10-05 10:25 AM

VELVET GOLDMINE is a guilty pleasure of mine for $8.97. maybe noteworthy because it stars. Ewan McGregor and Christian Bale.
Loosely based on the experiences and personalities of David Bowie and Iggy
Pop, VELVET GOLDMINE is a wild, glitter-laced trip through the 1970s era of
Glam rock. Fictional characters Brian Slade (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) and Curt
Wild (Ewan McGregor) are personifications of Glam rock's ideals, with the
mysterious and androgynous Slade balanced by the intense, raucous Wild. When
Slade disappears, the era itself seems to melt away, swallowed up by the slick 1980s. But Slade's story, and the story of Glam rock, is retold when journalist Arthur Stuart (Christian Bale) is assigned to discover what really happened to Slade.

I decided to get Red,White, and Blue. I realize I'm not getting the boxset, but I've been waiting to pick this up and didn't want to pass up getting all three for 18 bucks.

andicus 10-10-05 11:27 AM

Is DVDCompare.net correct that the From Dusk Till Dawn Collectors Edition is non-anamorphic? Or is it only referring to the Full Tilt Boogie bonus disc? The way it's worded is kind of confusing. Can someone that has this verify for me?

It also indicates that "No Cuts", but that 21 secs were cut to achieve an R-rating. Presumably this just means that nothing was cut from the theatrical release?

Thanks!

Oh man! I'm Not Scared and Infernal Affairs are both on there! Too bad I already bought them. Excellent blind buys, for anyone curious.

I appreciate this thread, if only for the chance to say:

There were seven "Children of the Corn" movies?

Heh, that was the same reaction I had when I saw Hellraiser - Hellworld and read that it was the eighth Hellraiser movie.

RonMexico 10-10-05 01:28 PM

Damn they have two movies i recently purchased: Iron Monkey and Drunken Master 2

obscurelabel 10-10-05 01:48 PM

These titles were of most interest to me:

*25th Hour (director Spike Lee - very good performances, great cast, looks sumtuous on the screen ... hard to believe it had a only $15 million budget, every dollar and more is in evidence)

Bubble Boy (not everyone is enthusiatic about this one of course)

Children of Heaven (from Iran)

Citizen Ruth (Alexander Payne's theatrical debut)

*Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

Emma

Georgia

Grosse Pointe Blank (non-A)

Hamlet (Ethan Hawke version, set in the then-present day)

He Got Game (director - Spike Lee)

*Heavenly Creatures (director - Peter Jackson)

*High Fidelity

*In the Bedroom

*Mumford (neat little flick)

*Purple Noon (non-A) (very good movie; I hear the DVD is so-so)

Rabbit Proof Fence

Squanto, a Warrior's Tale

Tex

The Cider House Rules

Velvet Goldmine (non-A)

*A Walk on the Moon (I liked this one a lot, good evocation of late 60s Jewish life. Diane Lane is a bit subdued though)

The Color of Money

The Cradle Will Rock

The Grifters (terrific)

*The Rocketeer (not as good as it could have been but still a lot of fun)

The Snapper

*Three Colors (Blue, White, Red) (all three worth watching over and over)

Without researching, I remember the ones marked "non-A" as non-anamorphic titles. I've seen the ones marked with "*" and those would be good buys at $6 each if you have any interest at all in the titles (all of the comments are just my opinions of course). Also there are some other interesting Miramax titles that I'll have to look into.

jimbeam 10-10-05 03:45 PM

I have to second the recommendations on Blue, White, Red, Heavenly Creatures, Purple Noon. I'll also add Dead Man as a must-have.

Blind buys for me:
Ararat
Comedian
Velvet Goldmine

caiman 10-10-05 04:06 PM

Good deal. I ordered:

Shaolin Soccer
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
Infernal Affairs

$17.94

It's a great movie -- nothing to be guilty about! ;) I paid around $20.00 for mine and also have the R2 release.

djtoell 10-10-05 11:34 PM

Not a great film, but it might worth pointing out that Highlander III is included in this sale, as some may have been waiting for a good price to complete their collection.

I'm finally getting the Three Colors Trilogy, and what a great price! Thanks for posting.

As for others on the list, I'll second the recommendation for The Grifters, one of my favorite films. Also worth a look: Cradle Will Rock (true story and a terrific cast) and Tin Men (early Barry Levinson film).

reverie 10-11-05 09:13 AM

Neatness! I'm ordering "Inspector Gadget" (yeah, it was a bad movie, but I can't resist), "Judge Dredd", and "Comic Book-The Movie". Never saw the last two, but for $6, what the heck. I may pick up three more.. gotta check VHS to see if I can replace some Disney stuff from those compliations they're doing.

Gcomeau 10-11-05 09:43 AM

Just found Dawn of the Dead 4-disc for 29.99.

Seantn 10-11-05 10:12 AM

Just found Dawn of the Dead 4-disc for 29.99.
Is this involved in the sale though? I think it's always on the site as 29.99.

Marvin 10-11-05 10:51 AM

I ordered 3 Disney singalongs that I was planning on getting (not for me). The problem is there's a 4th one I also was going to get so I need to pick 2 more. There are about 3 DVDs that I sort of want.

Is "Flirting with Disaster" worth a blind buy? Does anyone have and recommend "Classic Cartoon Favorites vol 8 (Holiday Celebration)"?
