Barnes & Nobles B&M has got B2G1F going on right now until 6/30. This is slightly better than the Borders B3G1F sale, and if you have their Members card, you can get an additional 10% off, which would just sweeten the deal.

a.) the sale runs through 6/30 (not 5/30 as in title)
b.) the prices on the B&N website may (or may not) be different from the B&M store prices

the prices in the stores are usually full retail. Sometimes they have small discounts. The prices on the website are often far better.

First sentence says Barnes & Nobles B&M, which I assume means brick and mortar stores.

Good luck finding a decent deal. I would never buy a dvd from B&N stores with what they charge. The prices instore and on the website are different btw.

Yeah. I can't imagine they would manage to sell well if they were to charge full price online.

I work at a B&N. DVD Box Sets are normally 10% off full retail, so the best deal likely is for members who buy 2 box sets and get 1 free with the 10% off box sets and the 10% membership discount.

Boxsets get atleast an additional 10% off (if over $39.99 or 3 disks I believe) -- so if you include 10% member discount with the 3 for 2 and previous additional 10% for boxsets = atleast 40-46% (per DVD or boxset). Sometimes the "additional" discount is also applied to some non-boxset DVD's and the boxsets may be even more off.

The benefit here is: instant gratification and you do not have to wait for a supposed sale, you can check for floaters and you know it will be in stock (you can actually see and touch it :)

BTW - I actually got some stuff the last time they had one a year or 2 ago - got some limited ed, hard to find - like the Galactica Cylon mask set.

The problem I had was does the store I am in have what I want to make the 3 for 2 work right (equal priced sets or close enough).

I wish it was online as well, I got a $100 gift card which appears I'll never get to use it, the prices are ridiculous for the most part unless it's the first week. Even then it's usually nothing great.

I knew this wasn't a great deal, but I figured it was better than the Border's deal for Criterions (possibly).

$29.95 titles = $19.97 each (not as good as dvdplanet, but instant gratification)
$39.95 titles = $26.63 each (same as above)

The box sets make the biggest difference, because as forumsmv said, they're marked 10% off, so a $79.95 set would only be $71.95.

$71.95 box sets = $49.97 each (which is better than dvdplanet by a couple of dollars)

I picked up Newsradio, Seinfeld 4 and Cheers 5, and it came out about $9 cheaper than it would have cost me from Amazon. I do have the member discount, though.

Last year when they ran the sale, the clerks ordered a bunch of stuff in for me - they usually only have more recent boxed sets on the shelves, but if you want an older one, they might be able to get it sent to the store for you.

You know, that's not bad at all, for some reason I forget Criterion MSRP was only $39.95. For $26.63 it's slightly lower than ddd.com's prices so I'll definitely stop in sometime this week and pick some up.

Well, dvdplanet always has their $39.95 Criterions at 35% off, which makes them $25.96, with no tax in my state, and you get free shipping over $25.00. So the only "cheapest" option at B&N is the Criterion box sets as far as I can tell, but I'm gonna hold off for a certain sale where they'll be around 45 bucks each.

Just a note that two studios aren't participating. I don't work in Music, though, so I don't recall which ones they are. That stock should have been removed and I don't think it's even available for order for the duration of the promotion.

I would suggest you look some of these up on the web to see that alot of them are a realy good price at this sale.

I agree MScottM - there are some good prices there. Some are better than "supposed" future online sales events, some are close within a couple dollars or less and some not. You have to decide if you want to chance the online or see it and be sure (floaters, etc.). I actually made up a spreadsheet to calculate the prices, including sales tax and shipping so I can know for sure what is the best price and the difference in price between the top 3. This way I can make an informed decision on what is "best," qualified as is it low enough for that DVD that I will pay, do I want it now, do I want to chance it going lower (a sale here or there), if not the lowest is the extra cents or dollars worth it or so small not worth quibbling over.

Sometimes when you do the math, as MScottM said, you may find out the pricing is better than expected, if not the lowest......real close.

If I had the 10% Members card, I'd probably be all over this, but factoring in the $25.00 for the card, and probably never using it again during the year, I don't make out as well. I buy all my books through Amazon, and wouldn't purchase dvds at B&N unless there was some kind of promotion like this.

Does this sale apply on a national level or is it a local thing?

I was in a B&N today and the clerk told me the B2G1F sale was going to be going to be going on until 6/30. I was kinda surprised, and asked her if it was 5/30 or 6/30, and she insisted it was 6/30. Can anyone else confirm this?

First post edited to reflect new ending date. Also, some people have said that multi-disc sets (even just 2disc Criterions) are supposed to be 10% off. Is this on the tag (because all the ones at my store say $39.99) or something that's taken at the register?

Also, f one of the mods can actually change the thread title to reflect this, that would be great.

I think it might depend on the store - at my local Barnes & Noble, most of the boxed sets have a 10% off sticker pasted on the outside of the box (and it says members get another 10% off on top of that). A different B&N nearby did not have these stickers last year, but they do now.

Also - for people who figure out the price ahead of time : at my local store, if you buy something for $100, the cash register takes off the first ten percent, leaving $90, then takes the next ten percent off the $90, leaving $81, so it is more like a 19% discount, instead of 20%. It is no big deal, but if you are spending hundreds of dollars, it can throw off your math a little.

I think anything marked at $39.99 or above with at least 2-discs qualifies for the 10 percent discount.

And if you look at my above posts, you will see that when I did the math, I took into account how they apply the discounts.

Unfortunately, not everything is available in the deal online. I just checked a couple of the Criterion boxsets, and they don't fall under this deal. I had to look up about 10 of the 29.95 titles to find 3 that would take, and even after the $5 off 50 coupon, after I add in tax, I'm back to an avg of $19.51 a piece. At the DDD sale, these titles will be $17.25, which is friggin' awesome!

I saw the 48.28 price WAS there in the last couple of days - just changed so he must have picked it up then.

BN does adjust prices up and down over time. I have seen prices go up, then down, then down and then up again, ad infinum. Just what happens - so wait if you want to it may go back down and may go up. Not all their prices change like this - it only appears to happen to the ones you really want.
