$4.88 DVD display at Wal-Mart (online as well)
Usual disclaimer, did a search for "$4.88" didn't find this posted already.
Saw a big display in the main aisle outside the entertainment department. Here's what I remember seeing: The General's Daughter Clue Beverly Hills Cop 1, 2 & 3 (separate, not the gift box for $4.88) Flashdance Another 48 Hours Enemy at the Gate There were probably 4 or 5 more that I don't remember the names of. Oh, looks like the $5.50 bin got another boost, as I found Mystery Men, Lockup and Frankenstein (DeNiro) tonight. |
might have to make a trip...thanks op
|
Saw this today at my WalMart too...
Primal Fear Fatal Attraction Bad New Bears The Score were some of the other titles, will def be back there tomorrow to pick a few more of them up |
Thanks for the heads-up...I'll have to check this out.
|

Ofcourse I wanted Beverly Hills Cop 2 , 3 and Bad News Bears , and my WM doesn't have them. They have every movie mentioned, but the three I wanted. :(
|
My WM also had Young Sherlock Holmes.
|
Is there a new version of Bad News Bears on the way to coincide with the remake?
P.S. I accidentally typed Bad News Rears wich I thought was kind of funny. |
has anyone seen vanilla sky at wal-mart? i've been meaning to get that for a while now
|
I saw all the above at my Wal-Mart (Huntsville, AL) in the same 4-sided display as the brand new releases in the main aisle. Picked up Saturday Night Fever ("He hits my hair!") and Beverly Hills Cop. Plenty of Vanilla Sky, etc. Most folks were too busy looking at the Elektra disks to notice it...savages...:)
|
Ditto. I saw tons of all the movies listed last night.
|
In addition to that, my Wal-Mart also had a display of Fox TV box sets for $14.44. I picked up King of the Hill-Season 1 and Harsh Realm-Complete Series. They also had Buffy-Season 1, NYPD Blue Season 1, an Alley McBeal compliation set, and several others. Definitely worth searching your store for if you've been holding off buying some sets...
|
My Walmart had all of the above, except Bad News Bears. I got the Score.

Hey! Thats good to know. We're not too far from each other. If my wal-mart doesn't have anything I may run up there to check it out.
-biggrin- |
I was pleased to find one of my favorite guilty pleasures Clue in this $4.88 deal and picked it up today. I did not see What's Eating Gilbert Grape but people were not surprisingly swarming the rack and Clue only had a few remaining. I was lucky enough to encounter some savages rambling about how they cannot find Full Screen DVD's. I was disgusted and quickly left.
|
Our WalMart had the Richard Gere "Primal Fear" in the $4.88 bin, not "Primal Fear - The History Of Fear".

I wonder why Paramount is slashing prices on these DVD titles.
|
Tonight I picked up:
$4.88 Beverly Hills Cop Beverly Hills Cop 2 Enemy at the Gates General's Daughter $5.50 One Million Years B.C. Primary Colors Romancing The Stone |
Scored:
Clue Saturday Night Fever Night At The Roxbury Urban Cowboy Domestic Disturbance Orange County All for under $33. Yeah. |
My wife picked up these 3 for me: Beverly Hills Cop 1, 2 & 3
|
I picked up a couple titles as well, but most of the ones in this sale were ones I had already bought, such as Saturday Night Fever for $15 at Costco when it first came out or Enemy at the Gates for $5.95 from Columbia House thinking I had gotten a good deal. I felt pretty stupid seeing it for $4.88.
I second the question previously asked: does anyone know why Paramount is doing this? Fry's had a bunch of Paramount titles for $5.99 last week, then $4.99 this week, and then Walmart for $4.88. Are these titles being discontinued or were too many produced? I'm wondering if this means I should not buy any more Paramount DVDs until they are under $6 if this is the new trend. Too bad I couldn't find What's Eating Gilbert Grape at my Walmart as it's the title I wanted the most. They had tons of Primal Fear (with Richard Gere) but no Beverly Hills Cop 2-3. Some people had said Walmart had 61* in their $5.50 bins, but I could never stand to dig through that overflowing mess of a bin, so I got it at $5.99 at Best Buy where things were organized on a shelf. |
Paramount is lowering their titles cuz catalog titles get lowered over time since they don't sell well anymore at their previous price. A lot of those titles that have received drops are 3-5 years old or even older.
Also, since HD-DVD is around the corner, I'm expecting that more and more titles will get price drops quicker. |
In addition to the ones listed, my Wal-Mart had plenty of Sabrina (Harrison Ford, Julia Ormond) in the $4.88 display.

Ive been wondering the same thing... it's great to see all those cheap movies, considering how Paramount was one of the last major studios to embrace dvd (as well as the last one represented in the WalMart 5.99/5.50 dvd bin) As for myself, picked up... Bad News Bears (had to dig a little to find them.. great movie, and I am sure the remake will blow since there are no film makers who would use the dirty language from the first, as well as the coach being a drunk with a beer in his hands ALWAYS) What's Eating Gilbert Grape (love the movie and love impersonating Leo DiCaprio from the movie...) Beverly Hills Cop 2 (picked up #1 the other night but have never seen any of these, but seeing how the first 2 were smash hits, picked up as blind buys) |

Bad News Bears (had to dig a little to find them.. great movie, and I am sure the remake will blow since there are no film makers who would use the dirty language from the first, as well as the coach being a drunk with a beer in his hands ALWAYS) QUOTE] I just wanted to say the remake is being done by Richard Linklater, possible the most important independent filmmaker currently working, who has proven his ability to work with kids in School of Rock, and it was written by the team behing Bad Santa. So I have high hopes for the Bad News Bears. |
How is the transfer on Primal Fear? It doesn't seem like it will be re-released with 16x9 anytime soon...
|
i REALLY wanted to pick up Primal Fear & Urban Cowboy, but i'm holding out for SE's on both. BTW, this is the 25th anniv for Urban Cowboy......lets cross our fingers!

I didn't see 48 hours, only the sequel. |
Thanks OP for pointing this out. Today I bought:
-Beverly Hills Cop -Beverly Hills Cop II -Beverly Hills CopIII -Enemy At The Gates -Orange County -Vanilla Sky -Young Sherlock Holmes |
My Wal-Mart did not have these. They were about a week behind on getting the Eastwood bin in too so I'll check back later this week. Or go to another one down the road. I'm not in a big rush to hunt down these titles.
