Since probably 75% of my purchases are made from Columbia House, I guess I'll just buy more when the next DDD 20% sale comes around. I only ever used Amazon.com when the price after STL was within a buck or two of DDD's 20% sale price, and only on boxsets or season sets that I couldn't get as an enrollment. Like the Limited Edition Shawshank Redemption or The Terminal: Limited Edition.

Most likely DDD. I'll still shop at Amazon if they have some decent deals and manage to equal or beat the price of DDD or some B&M stores. If not, I'll just shop around for the best price.

I usually buy from which ever site is the cheapest, which was Amazon lately with the STL, I guess they will be losing my business to DDD a lot more often now.

Out of the 20 box sets I purchased last year 18 came from Amazon. The other 2 I purchased from ddd. It kind of sucks though since I live in Illinois and have to pay tax on the ddd purchases but I will throw my business their way.

After spending over a thousand on Amazon in 2004, I suspect I'll mostly buy from DDD from now on.

I urge everyone to email Amazon with a request to reconsider their decision to drop STL. Stress that you'll buy much less from them since they won't be as competitive on prices.

Yeah, I know it may not help, but it can't hurt to try. With hundreds of emails (and hopefully a thousand plus), they may take a closer look at it.

I'll probably go with DDD for the most part. I just started using STL the past few months and it was really useful. I still can't believe they discontinued it.

DDD is my main DVD supplier, so not much of a change there. Amazon did have good prices on the Buffy and Angel sets, and I ordered those with STL, but they're completed so that's not a problem anymore.

I mostly buy books from Amazon and rarely had the opportunity to use STL for those, so not much difference for me there.

I used to buy more than half thru Amazon, but will now get nearly everything from either DDD, Digitaleyes, or DVDPlanet (essentially the same company with all three of those choices...).

I have to agree it is odd that DDD gets primary place among the big DVD mail order houses. What about Digitaleyes or DVDempire, etc? DDD is often best, but I always look at Eyes due to coupons and points - often they are the best when all is factored in. Etc. DVDempire has miracle-quick shipping. Etc. Democracy isn't quite democracy when some obvious candidates aren't on there...

DrS:

I was limited to 10 choices when creating the pole. If the Mod can please add Digitaleyes, DVDempire, and other missing choices, I'm all for it.

I'm sticking with Amazon. I'm locked in thanks to all the Amazon gift certificates I purchased at a large discount a couple of years ago. Now they just won't go as far...

I thought STL was still good too as I still get emails about it daily. If it's no good why don't they pull your personel STL page of their own site.

I just put 2 items from my share the love page in my cart and went all the way to the payment page with the STL discount still intact. It looks like it still works to me.

I have no alliance to any store, I always try and find the cheapest price to pay. With STL and the A9 search Amazon usually was that place. I will buy from all sources, just whoever has it the cheapest.

STL still works for any items that you still have in your STL account. However, no new ones were sent out after 1/19/05. Since STL lasts for 7 days, the last day of STL will be 1/26/05.

I will buy from whoever has it lowest, DDD, Amazon, or DVDPlanet, usually.

That isn't the problem. The items from your STL page will remain until they expire in a few days. The issue is that the ability to send love to others has been removed by Amazon, and as they stated on their web site the program has ended on January 19 (see link below). If you followed through and completed the order there wouldn't be anywhere to enter email addresses or to STL with your Amazon friends.

I'm hooked on Movie Gallery's Buy 2 Get 2 Free sales. I haven't had to buy a new release in many months.

Didn't know STL was gone. Looks like it's more DDD in my future.

I guess that unless I find a cheaper price somewhere, I'll just stick with DDD.

I think the reason why DDD gets most of the business is that it is one of the few others that offer to most of us (except for those living in Illinois) free shipping and no sales tax on top of the price of the DVD. It's 40% off on many of its titles so that makes it a pretty reasonable deal. Also, customer service wise, both Amazon and DDD have had a pretty good record for me in the past, which is sometimes a big issue when getting "big deals" at other sites where they mess things up totally. DDD has had some problems with security recently though, which I'll keep in mind when shopping there.

In the past I've looked for good deals with coupons, etc. but the days of finding 40% off or better (even with coupons) on other sites is rare and hard to find. It takes a lot more time than I was wanting to spend, plus you had an overall limit, whereas you could get share the love for many items you were looking for at once and not "use up" a coupon. Share the love by Amazon by comparison took a lot less effort in many instances. DDD also takes less time since the discount is built into the price and doesn't take hunting around for them as an extra effort, and again, one doesn't have "limits" when one wants to buy many at a time. With share the love gone, I might look for more coupons, etc., but if I can't find any more deals 40% off or better, I might just start cutting back on buying stuff too. I have *plenty* of unwatched DVDs to catch up on, and it wouldn't hurt to put more money towards buying a new house anyway.

Without coupons to make stuff close to 40% off from Amazon though, they've lost my business. They got around $6500 from me in DVDs and books the last few years. Say goodbye to that Amazon!

Also, I've already shifted buying most of my Anime titles from rightstuf.com and will continue to buy that from them. with their periodic 30-40% off sales with different studios and another 10% discount stacked on top of that with their Anime Club membership, with no extra sales tax if your not in Iowa, nor do you pay shipping if you get over $100 worth of stuff in an order.
