Does STL work with Borders @ Amazon?

If I have a Borders' gift card, and someone sends me STL, can I use it to get the discount and still pay with my Borders card?

Sure. Just start on Borders.com, then go to your Share the Love page through "Your Account." Then you should be able to use your Borders gift card.

So far when I try it says:

Important Messages
There's a slight problem with your order (see below).

We're sorry. We're unable to apply this claim code. Please note that Borders gift cards can only be used to purchase Borders items.

That's weird. It should work.

Is it a product that Borders would carry? Like a DVD, CD, book, etc.?

I have ordered four different DVD's using a Borders GC in the past two weeks, the last one being yesterday. Did you start at Borders.com, then click on "my account" and then click on "STL" and go from there?

STL most definitely works at borders.com. Here is a HOW-TO that I saved from a fellow DVDTalker:

How to STL
1) Log into your Amazon Account and delete everything from the shopping cart including saved items.
2) Go to http://www.borders.com
3) Borders.com will redirect to their Amazon storefront. Once there click the "Your Account" button.
4) Scroll down to "Shopping Lists & Gift Registries" and click "Share the Love"
5) Add Share The Love items to your cart
6) After last item added to cart click the Blue "Proceed to Checkout" button near the bottom of the cart
7) Enter Giftcard number and complete transaction. It will give a message that your GC will not be debited until your order ships.

NOTE: Only one Borders Gift Card may be redeemed per online transaction.

I think it's important to enter your Gift Card number on the final page (the one that has the "Place Your Order" button). I did have a problem one time when I tried to order "The Ultimate Matrix Collection". I had to call an Amazon CSR to get them to fix it. I've done about 5 orders since that time with no problems.

I've used this process four times in the past week, and it's worked every time. Thanks for a more detailed explanation. On one occasion, I already had an item in my shopping cart from a previous session, and I got the error message Geist quoted. However, removing the item and re-adding it once I was going through Borders.com remedied the problem.

Thanks very much for that HOW-TO, bhauge! I'm finally able to combine STL and Borders GCs!

I had a few small Borders gift cards so I went to Borders and asked them to combine them all onto one card...

Works better this way...

Is it possible to use Amazon online gift certificates with Borders gift cards? I thought I had finally found a way to use both with Share the Love because of this thread, but the $10 gc I have keeps dropping off the order once I use the gift card from Borders. I even tried going into the order after it's been placed where they usually let you apply any balance to that order, but that doesn't work either.

I doubt you can use both amazon gc and borders gc at the same time.

that wont work they are working in conjunction but they are still two different companies. The stl shouldnt work but it does, using one gc from each wont work.

I assume this was a "regular" GC (14 digits) as opposed to a "promo" GC (16 digits)? I could see that the "promo" GC wouldn't work since that has to be used when you place your order. I though that a "regular" GC might work since you can apply that to your account without placing an order and use it later during checkout.

Great. I was under the impression they did so now have $10 from Border's that is pretty useless to me.

I have made several orders using Borders gift cards, STL and Amazon promo gc with no problems. I haven't tried it with a regular Amazon gc.

Can you explain how you did it? I followed the above with the Amazon GC already in my account, non-promo, but it won't take the Borders gift card code with it.

I think the key is that it (apparently) needs to be a PROMO (16-digit) GC in order to work. This matches my recent experience in being able to use the following on my borders.com orders:

o Borders GC
o STL
o AMEX 25%-off Wish Certificate

The AMEX WC is a 16-digit code, so it's treated as a promo GC. The nice thing is that unlike a normal promo GC, this one stays active in your account for multiple orders until you reach the $150 discount total.

You're kidding but I would have considered it but I just figured out how to make it work whereas it wouldn't before.

Follow the steps laid out by bhauge. You can't enter the Border's Gift card until the very final screen before submitting. Then enter the code which kicks the Amazon GC out. Then edit payment again which will send you back a page an allow you to select pay by credit card and check the pay by gift certificate box. Then it takes you back to the final page and will subtract payment from GC, Gift Card, and then Credit Card.

The reason I couldn't get it to work before because I was trying to pay entirely by GC's. You must have something left over to get your credit card charged.
