Blockbuster - Waltham, MA $8 trade-ins
Hi all,
I know there's a massive thread in here but that was for what I believe was an announced nationwide trade-in offer. My local BB is still $5 but the one a few towns over in Waltham has a big $8 trade-in per DVD sign on the window. I traded in 10 DVDs today for $80 and some change (tax added?) of store credit.
Thought I'd pass this along to anyone local who wants to cash in on their unwanted DVDs. Maybe there are some more BB's out there right now who are accepting trade-ins for $8 again? I'm pretty happy seeing as how when the nationwide $8 offer was going on none of my local BB's even accepted trade-ins. One note of importance is that this particular BB just started accepting trade-ins fairly recently so maybe it's an intro rate for the trade-ins? I suppose I should have asked the clerk a few questions about the offer and how long it was going to last!

Woo-hoo! Waltham is just "down the road" a little bit. Got me a box of ~100 DVDs I put together when the $8 trade-ins first started, only to find out there weren't any BBVs in the entire new england area doing it. I'm doing the money dance now baby!

Thanks for posting this. Hopefully some of the other Boston area Blockbusters will follow suit.
If not I'll take a short drive over. Used to live on Moody St.

I, too, would like to know if this is a "nationwide" thing that all the corporate stores are doing. I called my local store that I know is corporate and did the $8 thing last year, but they said it wasn't going on again right now.

it looks like the $8 trade-in deal is for stores that previously didn't accept Trade-Ins. If you're store was part of the initial $8 deal in October, then most likely it won't be doing $8 again.

I was told that the Waltham store is the only one in the New England are doing the $8 trades this time around, that since they are the largest blockbuster store in New England, they are the testbed for this area. But, remember this info comes straight from a regular counter-clerk's mouth and we all know how knowledgeable and reliable they are.

I've been calling around - there's some stores in Oregon that still do trade-ins according to some girl in Phx who just transferred here from Portland. I called a Tucson store and the guy told me that NO blockbusters do trade-ins anymore at all. ZERO. He's a liar.
Any stores in California near Hollywood/LA?

cleaned up yesterday. $223 in credit. 28 trade-in's all of them earned $8.07 or $8.09 in credit, except for Matrix revolutions which got me $5-. Traded in a bunch of Friday the 13th's, Lord of the rings old versions, and a bunch of movies I never intend to watch again or movies I plan to upgrade to better versions. They didnt take Vulgar and dude where's my car for whatever reason. The sale is going until at least the end of the week, probably longer. Havent heard of any other locations participating. You other people missed out on this promo last month when it was "nationwide" except everywhere in New England. Hopefully my dump off of 25 flicks or so will help encourage them to run this promotion with some other NE stores. Thanks for the post substeve

Heading to BB tonight.
BTW..the way to tell if it's corporate is not is to look around the doorway on the way in for something that says "Owned or operated by: xyz company" or somilar...if it's there, it's an affilate store.

Okay, I've decided to make the drive down from southern NH on Friday. Two questions first: the woman I talked to mentioned having a "trade-in agreement" on file...can I fill one out when I get there? Also, will they accept pretty much any DVD as long as it's in good condition? I have a few made-for-tv/documentary DVDs that I'd like to trade in if I can.

I filled out the trade in thing there, and the credit card on my account was expired 2 years ago so she had to do that as well, took her a couple minutes to get set up then she started scanning. She wanted to give me a hard time for coming in after 8 pm, but scanned em anyway. The dvd's need a barcode. It wont hurt to bring the made for tv movies, but dont go down there with the idea that they will accept them all, it's mostly movies BB already carries. Make sure you have a good amount of other movies that you know they will take before you waste a trip trying to unload a couple dozen tv flicks. One of my movies was a PVD from blockbuster with a blockbuster sticker on top of the barcode, she scanned that and it scanned like any other. They arent taking the cardboard box dvd's, not the snap cases but probably the slim cardboard crap they sell at target for $1.00 or whatever

I went and traded in 10 DVDs yesterday and go myself $80. The trade agreement is no problem, you just sign up there, it takes 1 minute.
As far as what they will take, the DVDs must be in good condition (they checked every one), and they need to have a UPC and be in their database. I had a couple promo DVDs without UPC and they wouldn't take them. I also had Boondock Saints and Jumanji that had a UPC on them, but they weren't in their system, so they wouldn't take it. I had a copy of Matrix Revolutions, that I had bought pre-viewed from Blockbuster, but when they scanned the UPC, it wouldn't come up. The girl at the counter scanned it 5 times but it didn't come up. She said she wouldn't take it, but the manager happened to be there and he let her put that one in manually, so I got $8 for it.
Bottom line: they generally won't take anything that isn't in their system, so people going in with a ton of $1 DVDs or other obscure stuff might be disappointed.
